INDIANAPOLIS — Now that Super Bowl XLVI is over, the offseason can officially begin.

This promises to be a bizarre and highly active free agency period. Players not re-signed to their teams by March 13 will become unrestricted free agents.

There is an average of 15 unrestricted free agents per team.

St. Louis tops the league with 21 projected unrestricted free agents. The Super Bowl champion New York Giants and Cincinnati have 20 projected unrestricted free agents.

The New England Patriots have 18 projected unrestricted free agents and 10 restricted free agents.

The Falcons have 17 projected unrestricted free agents.

Below is a team-by-team listing of the potential free agents.

Here’s a team-by-team look at free agency:

FLACONS NEED TO SIGN AS MAY FORMER DAWG PLAYERS AS POSIBLE. THATS THE ONLY WAY TEHY WILL WIN.

Would this be a possibility for the Falcons?

UFA – Max Starks – LT, Pittsburgh Steelers – 6′8″ – 345. Age 30 – 8 years NFL experience.

He may be in the twilight of his career, at 30 years old, but would be an experienced LT to protect Ryan’s blind-side. Maybe a 1 or 2 year deal, until we can either acquire a younger player, either through FA, or the draft. Starks could be rotated with Svitek, to keep them both fresher.

If they could clear some space and be big players in free agency this year, these are the guys I’d go after.
Offense- RG Nicks, cut Sam Baker and get a real LT. They dont really need a while lot via free agency on offense.
Defense- CB Cortland Finnagan, the whole D Line needs help. Its all about the front 4 in the modern NFL now. They set the tone for the other levels.

Why does everyone want to get rid of Harry Douglass? When Mularkey decided to call his number when Julio was hurt, the kid belw every door wide open! It’s not his fault that he was under utilized in MM’s offense like Jacquizz Rogers, Antoine Smith, Kevin Cone. Wait and see what I tell you when Dirk Koetter gets a hold of him. There must be a reason when other teams see Harry as a bonafide #2 receiver! I get tired of losing really good talent, to see them excel for other teams, and then we go back to the drawing board. Sometimes, it’s NOT the players, but the lack of a GREAT system.

In free agency, we don’t sign players until we’ve looked at the upcoming schedule, thus, we concentrate on free agents leaving teams we are playing in the upcoming season. We feel, as an organization, it is more Eli-able than film, and less chances that we are caught.

Falcons 2012 Draft Easy Button 1.0

1.22 – Cleveland Browns- Julio Jones, WR, Ala

2.55 – Cordy Glenn, OL, 6′6, 345, UGA
– Remington Finalist, Outland Watch List, plug/play

3.87 – Ben Jones, C, 6′3, 305, UGA
-Remington Finalist, Outland Watch list, plug/play

4.109 – Cleveland Browns – Julio Jones, WR, Ala

5.133 – Chris Rainey, RB, 5′8, 178, Fla.
– 4.36/40 – speed back missing since Norwood

6. 165 – Christian Thompson, FS, 6′1, 213, SCSU
– Auburn transfer – combo safety w return skills

7. 197 – Lamont Bryant, TE, 6′6, 230, MSU
– Former QB, sleeper, 4.6/40, super athletic

Summary:
Georgia OL immediate upgrade; bring chemistry, top shelf talent;
while others scrambling for DBs, Falcons set anchors.

Rainey is lightning in a bottle we’ve missed since Norwood;
teams will be wary of his size, we won’t.

Thompson is big hitting, big playmaker at safety, Auburn transfer;
St. Thomas Aquinas grad provides immediate options.

Bryant is the small school stud nobody but hbcuclassics have heard of;
see Ricardo Lockett, Seattle Seahawks.
