Didn’t Abraham strip the ball when he sacked Manning…………? I thought Smith should have been advised by his coaches upstairs to throw a challenge flag.

Sid – The replay in the Stadium clearly showed Eli’s knee was down. Should have challenged the spot on Ryan’s first QB sneak though.

So much for ‘Abraham Unleashed’ …his huge salary should be unleashed to get some pass rushers.

I give you a hard time Ledbetter for protecting the bulk of your posters from warranted criticism; but I appreciate the coverage even though you continue to let ownership get away with shading deals on the proposed stadium from the general public (along with the General Assembly)…

Chris- I thought Abraham had a solid game. He was probably the only Falcons on offense or defense that came to play. Also, I thought the Falcons missed Grimes steady play.

Well, they need to do something at QB, cause Carolina is coming on strong, and Brees is only 32, he’ll be a Saint for a long time to come. We (the Saints) are going to need the Atl and Carolina to trade losses in the future, and that isn’t going to happen if things fall apart in Atl, and right now, I see things falling apart in Atlanta.

I think yesterday was an anomaly. I knew the Atl defense wasn’t that great but what the he77 happened to your offense? I mean, wow! What happened? Last year the Saints had the excuse of not having any of our running backs, but still scored 36 points! Atlanta had all their guns on offense! What the h. happened? EVEN I WAS STUNNED!

I think the falcons need a play caller offensive ccor. Malarkey to vanilla you must strech the at least three or four times a game the last qaurter back sneak was the worst call I ever seen in pro football he has to go. You have speed on the outside with Jones and never take advantage of it you must be aggresive as a play caller

January 9th, 2012
7:29 am

I’m mean really? What the EF was that yesterday? Mularki and BVG have got to go. Go get Tony Spags that was just released from St Louis to run the D then get somebody anybody to run the O. Mularki obviously has no flippin clue. 2 QB sneaks on the road in a playoff game when you have Tony G,Turner, Roddy, Julio, hell even Jason Snelling for that matter to move the ball 1 foot and you dial up Ryan for a keeper??? Pathetic play calling. It just completely baffles me that Mularki has had all year to figure out how to make this O move the ball and he just couldn’t find the answer. Pretty sad if you think about it. Falcons fans deserve much better than what was out on the field yesterday. They weren’t even competitive for crying out loud with a 9-7 team. In a conference with the likes of Rogers and Breese how does TD plan to keep up with this secondary? I like Julio do’t get me wrong BUT the answer is not drafting a WR, it’s drafting a pass rush and secondary.

Ughhhhhhh, wtf Falcons. Complete embarrassment….

And I’m going to even start the discussion on Ryan. Dear caught in the head lights pretty much sums that dude up. No arm what so ever. Check down to the running back KING.

D Led,

I sat out in the cold at Metlife with a Falcons jersey and watched that mess yesterday. Very disappointed. As much as people complain about BVG and the defense, I feel like the defense arguably played well enough to win every game except the MNF game at NO. It is obvious they need a speed rusher and an upgrade over Decoud but other than that I think they are sufficient.

The offense let the team down all year in the games against elite competition (Chicago, NO, GB, NYG, Houston). No identity, no gameplan, and no toughness up front. Do you think they will have the nerve to get rid of Mularkey even if he does not leave on his own to take another job? What about Boudreau? If I am Arthur Blank/Smitty I would hire the top offensive assistant from GB or NO as OC and give them the reigns to do what they want on offense. Stay well, Bruh.- 7-05-A

Matt Ryan is a good game manager, but he is not a winning QB. Ryan had no turnovers in the game, but he also had no touchdowns. He appears afraid in big games. Atlanta needs a QB with a winners attitude. Time to cut our losses and bring in a QB to challenge Ryan for the starting position. Currently there is no incentive for Ryan to improve. He knows that there is no one on the bench that can replace him. Competition is a good motivator.

When is the AJC ever going to write an article really calling out Matt Ryan and the fact that this guy is not the type player to lead you anywhere. I would love to call up Minny and offer Ryan and Roddy for that number 2 pick, however we know thats not going to happen, oh well atleast we have the Hawks..the only team besides the Dream who know how to win games in the postseason.

The Falcons are a GOOD team but not a GREAT team. The Birds have enough to get to the playoffs but not the right combination to be successful. Tweaking is in order- especially on the offensive line!

This is not a time to over react. The fact is that we need some coaching changes It is rare that you can truly blame an Offensive Coordinator for a loss in the NFL, though they get fired all the time. But if you can’t score with pro bowl talent on your roster plus a sure shot Hall of Famer, maybe it really is time to go.

You can rarely blame the coaches for a loss, but I don’t see how this can be seen any other way.

Also, remember Peyton Manning started 0-3 in the playoffs and has a sub-500 career playoff record.
He finally won a some games when they got a real OC .

Well, as Chris Berman said this morning, “they should be ashamed of themselves.”

And if you really want to look at the overall picture here, its the coaching in Atlanta all over.

- The Braves had that epic collapse and you hear from Freddi and Wren that “we like our guys.” In the meantime everybody in the NL East got better!

- The Hawks GM Sund says the same thing about their “Core.” While Larry Drew does not have a clue of what to do with a team of shoot first attitude dummys that wont listen to him.

- Enter the Atlanta Falcons, No clue on calling plays, cant stop anybody on 3rd down and the head coach makes one blunder after another but the Arthur Blank says, “I dont think its a step back.” LOL, its not?? In all reality, it is stuck in neutral!

- Both the UGA Dogs and Jackets choke away Bowl games they should have won and immediately its “Ok boys, lets fiddle sum guitar, chew some sugar cane and go mudboggin!”

See the common denominator here? Its that good ol southern laid back attitude, there is no sense of urgency in the state of Georgia. The Fans want a winner but management is content on just showing up and giving it the old atta boy aint workin!

So fans are not going to show up to games cause they have come to expect the worse when the Steelers, Lakers, Bulls, Phillies, Bears, Yankees come to town cause they have more fans than Atlanta teams do.

Heck the Cubs havent won in years, but everytime they come to Atlanta they have almost as many fans in the stands!

Atlanta is just not a good sports town. They will lose another team in about 10 years, most likely the Hawks. And as much as im venting here, next year i will continue to root for my beloved Atlanta teams till i cant no more.

a.) What happened is this front office *(Thomas Dimitiroff) over estimating the talent they have. Its not that great, particular on the offensive and defensive lines

b.) The coaching staff (Offensive and Defensive coordinators) are not that good and Mike Smith not up to the challenge. He is overwhelmed. (His his near heart attack). Cant not handle the pressure. Bad calls on yards neeed/situation 3and1 and 4and1. Time management.

Fact of the matter is: Who is the world would disagree that if Sean Payton had this very same Falcons team would not score more than 2 gotdamn points?

Pathetic

Arthur Blank –

I am a season ticket holder. I will NOT renew my season ticket if you do not fire Mike Mularkey AND Brian Van Gorder. And serve notice to Mike Smith – Get it done this year. Bottom line.

HERE COMES THE JUDGE

January 9th, 2012
8:54 am

After reading Mr. Blank’s comments concerning his obvious disappointment of the outcome of how the team didn’t play vs the Giants. Well, Mr. Blank…you CAN fix this…roll some heads!! My decision of spending my hard-earned cash to purchase season tickets for next year will depend on your decision to roll some heads…particularly the OC…the Giants defense was ranket 27!!! Let me say that once again…ranked 27…and we had a big fat zero offensive points…SAD, SAD, SAD!!! The head coach is quite…too quiet…not good for a PROFESSIONAL head coach. Both the OC and the DC has got to go…I’m still fuming from the Houston game…a rookie QB starting his FIRST game and he looked like a hall of famer. On the FIRST play in EVERY game…hand the ball to Turner…no vision from the OC to do something different…the defense of every opponent could have stopped us on the first play of every game…wearing blind folds!! Anyway, my 19 years as a season ticket holder is in serious jeopardy if I don’t see some heads rolling on I-20, I-75 or I-85…OUT OF TOWN!!

The new goal for the upcoming season is to simply not be totally and completely outclassed and embarassed on national televison.

It’s not the super bowl, we’re back to trying not to be embarassed.

Mike Smith presided over the worst coached game in the HISTORY of the Atlanta Falcons. Yes, THAT history, that’s how bad the coaching was yesterday, and the execution was worse.

The building should be razed.

Thomas Dimitroff is the Billy Knight of the NFL.

Coach, QB and GM have now PROVEN that they are totally and completely incapable of competing with even average playoff teams.

4 years and at this point, Jim Mora and GREG FREAKING KNAPP!!!! had a better history than this group.

They can still get early-round picks, but it will mean shaking things up. Roddy has had a good career, but trade him for picks while his value is high. Turner is already slow– release cap space, and make room for Jaquiz. Dunta, Tony G, Abraham—too much money in the wrong places. They can still have plenty of options if Harry Douglas lines up opposite Julio. WITHOUT Roddy. Good teams know when to get rid of players at the right time.

What was the deal with the ref moving the ball back 6 inches when the chain gang started coming out…………..the ball had been sitting spotted for awhile.

I’ve got the game recorded……..when I can stomach it I have to go back and look at that Abraham play one more time.

People forget that we “unloaded” another QB as not good enough, who proved very capable with Houston – Matt Schaub. His 3rd string replacement also has proved very capable. It’s not just the QB, it’s the whole package. Yes Ryan lacks the escapability of the top ranked QB’s and it’s hard to tell how motivating a leader he is unless you’re actually in that huddle, but he could be good enough given the O Line protection the Saints provide and given a running back with speed who can cut and change direction when there is no hole up front (we claim to have one but only use him for passes out of the backfield), and given an Offensive Coordinator who is not totally predictable, especially on on 3rd and 4th down and short yardage or at least learns from previous failures what does not work with his O line, and given a defense and defensive coordinator that can cover man to man and pressure the opposing QB. I would prefer to have a QB with legs but Ryan still is a quality QB, who given an all around quality team and coaching staff can win playoff games and even a Superbowl but there is an awful lot that needs to change around him.

We look good this year, we are going to win in the playoffs, oh well maybe next year don’t over react…..C’mon already!! I don’t blame the Saints fans for coming on here and talking about us cause we aint done a damn thing to stop it. The Saints were in the same position we were some years ago and they went and spent the money to make there team better. Falcons make too many stupid moves. Wanna be a run first team but draft and sign an undersized line on both sides. WTF? How are you going to be a run first, stop the run kind of team? We started people yesterday that wouldn’t even make the Saints roster! Real talk folks! The South needs a wake up call! Stop being the rest of the league’s laughing stock and doormats! This is not over reacting! How many years do you have to put up with this bs and keep spending your money? If your girlfriend keeps cheating on you do you keep going back? Only in the South!

It wouldn’t be over reacting to blow out the whole building.

This team has peaked, no one could blame them for mostly starting over.

Our only hope for Matt Ryan comes from Drew Brees in San Diego, but the real success only came after he was united with Sean Payton.

We don’t have a coach on the staff that holds a candle to Sean Payton.

How many times do you have to see the same failures in the same ways before you start doing something about it.

This team fails EVERY SINGLE YEAR on the line of scrimmage, yet we make excuses for them EVERY SINGLE YEAR by using statistics…. oh the Offensive Line wasn’t so bad, see they only gave up X amount of sacks over the last 9 weeks. That’s 3rd in the league…

This offensive line is hot garbage, it’s mostly been garbage for 45 years. with single players as exceptions.

We have ONE, count him, ONE guy on the team that’s a quality pass rusher and he’s 33.

Thomas Dimitroff has failed this team mightily. He hasn’t brought in the right players to fix the LOS or the secondary in the least.

Good ole boy southern mentality=Arthur Blank’s response to if the Falcons took a step back. Why would he admit that? Same thing with Bobby Cox. The Braves wouldn’t dare get rid of him in spite of their mediocrity. Never admit failure. Never admit defeat-although the whole world just witnessed a slaughtering on Sunday. That is ultimate denial. Don’t expect the players to respond; they still got to eat and their paychecks could be in jeopardy if they say something out of line within the organization to the media. The coaches will be tight lipped as well. Don’t say anything that makes Mr. Blank look like he made an organizational blunder. Keep your paychecks. Families got to eat, too. Mr. Blank will look at season tickets holders. If he can line the dome in 2012 with minimum impact-that’s what he’ll do. The marketing team is already at work. Minor changes will happen, but I will be shocked if they’ll keep Malarkey at OC.
