FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey defended the offensive line’s style of play.
New York’s Justin Tuck called the Falcons “dirtbags” on Monday and noted their “reputation.”
Earlier this season, defensive linemen from Green Bay and Detroit have made allegations against the Falcons’ offensive line.
When asked if the linemen were clean, Mularkey said, “Absolutely.”
The Falcons contend that they are physical and that they block, hit, push and shove until they hear the whistle stop blowing.
Mularkey clearly takes umbrage with the allegations.
“We thrive on doing things right,” Mularkey said. “We thrive on playing physical. We’ve been doing that for four years. Nothing is ever preached beyond the whistle. Ever.”
The Falcons offensive line was cited by John Madden as one of the best in the league last season. They have undergone some change with the lost of Harvey Dahl in free agency and with Will Svitek taking over for Sam Baker at left tackle.
“We are really disciplined,” Mularkey said. “We try to be one of the least penalized teams and offenses in the NFL. We’ve done a good job for the most part. We’ve had some spurts where we had some bad penalties, but it’s really, really important for us to don’t hurt ourselves with penalties such as that. It’s addressed all of the time.”

i like the way the offensive line keeps blocking until the whistle. thats what is suppose to happen. if turner runs for 4 yards and gets stood up i love to see the linemen come in and push him and the pile for 4 more. thats smart football. o line dont be scared of those big bad d linemen from new york we need to just make quick passes and runs to help keep them contained. not too many down field shots lets just dink and dunk until third quarter when they wear down a bit then light em up with some julio and douglas!!!! go birds

When the Saints beat the Lions in week 13, the Lions were without Suh, Delmas, Chris Houston, etc. They were not at full strength. Also Stafford had a screwed up finger. They are at 100%. They still would have beaten the Saints had they not committed those dumb penalties. The Saints were lucky to escape with a win. Lions will beat the Saints this time. It’ll be so fun to see the Saint fans cry and make excuses like they always do. hahahaha

Giants D-line has bad breath, oily hair, and acne! I’d rather be known to ‘play’ dirty than ‘be’ dirty.

i think its funny that these falcons fans think thier O-line are gonna roll over tuck. Osi, JPP etc, NY’s real team (the giants) are 3rd in sacks this year even with osi and tuck missing a combined 11 games. also our defense has been decimated by injuries, i don’t even know who our linebackers are anymore. Eli’s gonna go off 35-27 GMEN

Hey Falcons fans…what role do you see the weather playing this weekend? What I’m seeing is around 35-40 degrees with light snow and/or rain. i.e., NY Football Giants weather…thoughts?

listen, i could care less what Justin Tuck or anyone else has to say about the O-line or any other part of my Falcons game…. Only thing i wanna see is a Falcons W on Sunday. Instead of playing scared and intimidated like you have against the Saints and Packers…. i wanna see the same intensity that i saw in the first half of last Sundays game against the Bucs or against the Jags. They absolutely have the talent to match up with and handle any other team…. but you gotta go out there and play physical and match the other teams intensity. Play all out for 60 minutes every game and the Falcons can take it all. You gotta believe it and play like you believe it!!!

Unfortunately for the Giants fans showing up here, the Giants did lose 7 games this year. That happened for a reason. They have a horrible defensive backfield, so-so linebacking and inconsistent running game. The offensive line is average at best. Manning can light it up on occasion but he can also throw horrendous passes resulting in interceptions. At this point in the season the Falcons are a better ballclub. Falcons by 7.

I can’t believe the sillyness of some teams.Bitch, Bitch, Bitch. I’ll never forget Chuck Knoll grabbing Jerry Glanville after the Falcon Steelers game and giving him a lecture on dirty play. My God, no team in history played dirtier than the steelers and the Raiders back then.

…as much as I hate to say it,, It looks like the Aints are the hot team this year. Of course anything can happen,, Drew Brees just looks unbeatable right now. That being said,, nobody thought the Falcons would beat the #1 seed Vikings a few years back and advance to the Superbowel,, sorry,, Bowl,,, Go Falcons!

GiantBo, the weather will not be an issue…not expecting precipitation. 40 deg and light winds is pretty ideal for football…and Matt Ryan played at BC. The Falcons played in colder weather last season in Seattle and had one of their best games of the year.
