BVG and Smith have got to quit acting so scared of the top QBs it not only gets you beat it gets you killed. I knew we were in trouble when I heard him say You cant stop Brees you can only try and slow him down. Thats code for Zone defence. Lets see the Rams stoped him, Seattle stoped him in the playoffs last year. Every 3rd down and more than 3yds Ryan was under heavy pressure, and guess what? We did not go (9 for 9) on 3rd down. Yet every 3rd and long Brees was in,it was rush 3 or 4 and play zone, Smith and BVG are scared to bring pressure on 3rd and long against the top QBs. Guess what?when you get to the playoffs the team you are playing is going to have a top QB. They live for getting zone defences to carve up!!! They Hate getting knocked on there cans against man defence with heavy pressure. Yes they will beat you with a couple of long balls, but hey ill live with that rather than watching Brees or Rogers stand back there for 4 to 8 seconds looking were the next hole in the zone is coming. Could bringing pressure work worse? The other great thing about hitting the QB other than just sacks is fumbles and INTs, look when you get hit a few times you start getting happy feet and good things start happening for the defence. When was the last really Great zone defence. The great DC in the NFL live for 3rd and long, yet we dread it why? Its because 3rd and Long we PLAY SCARED!

This is to the Blove comment. Evidently your a “Aints” fan. I will make this short and sweet. That which happen on Monday Night wasn’t the real Falcons. We have some personal and coaching changes that we have to do starting with Brian Van Gorde who suxs. But know this “Aints” fan, its hard to beat a team a 3rd time, and you can bet that we will beat you in the playoffs and shock you just like Seattle did in the playoffs last year. Who cares about brees and the record, that game was meaningless since we already clinched. We will beat the Aints in the playoffs guaranteed. !! Rise Up Falcons !!!

In trying to Imulate the Packers, Saints and the Patriots the Falcons have lost their Idenity. Last year the offense most of the time, ran through Michael Turner. This year Passing the ball seems first and running is secondary. Being that said, the Falcons usually tease us with their offensive passing attack. Sometimes it looks explosive and quick to score. Other times it sputters and lacks creativity ecspecially in the red zone. And against elite teams it gets worst. You can’t win games kicking field goals with these explosive teams. Now, none of these teams mentioned have a great defense, but what they do have is the ability to score points on a consistent basis, and a defense who can make some plays as the game progresses. Usually, it leads to them out scoring you- which means the Falcons will lose. The Falcons have to find a way to score points consistently every game. Even against elite teams.

I keep reading comments from falcons fans about that wasn’t falcons football on MNF. Yes it was. You’ve had a very difficult time on prime time for the past few years. You can’t score in the red zone and your defense is not talented enough to stop the top offenses. You really want to play us for the 3rd time this year, but may not get the opportunity. GB will probably beat Detroit and you will probably beat TB. That will put the falcons against the Giants/Cowboys winner. So after you lose on the road in either Dallas or NY, you will be able to enjoy real football for the remainder of the playoffs. Who Dat!!

Samuel, you’ve made some valid points about the falcons. I’ve always thought the way for the falcons to be effective against the elite teams is to do what they do best and rush the ball and dink and dunk down the field running clock. I thought the Saints were going to have a tough time against atlanta on MNF while the first drive was going on, until they were stopped and had to settle for a FG. That was the difference. Scoring in the red zome is critical to winning against the elite in the NFL. You won’t win with FGs. This is not college. The elite teams will score TDs against you often. You have to be able to match that and run clock in order to keep the ball away from them.

A little voice keeps saying, “maybe that was a little rope-a-dope Monday night…maybe they know to beat Brees they have to bring blitzes and take their chances with man coverage, but they didn’t want to show it to them yet, since this game was less important than a future one would be. Maybe they were holding some things back on offense, some looks and plays they haven’t shown ANYONE yet because they learned their lesson from last year…save something different for the playoffs”.
It’s a very small voice, and I’m trying to ignore it.

Now that’s hope, against all hope. Let’s hope it’s true. That being said, let’s see what we got. We got talent, no doubt. The issue is we got no talent in the coaching dept. WWSPD. If we had N.O. head coaching dept with our talent. Then What Would Sean Payton Do? That’s my point. With Atlanta Falcons coaching staff, including Mike Smith-we’ve gone as far as we can go. Who is the leader? Blank? Can he coach? Nope. Therefore, Atlanta Falcons can go only as far as their OC can go, and as far as their DC can go. That’s it. No suprises here. We wete out played and outcoached again and again by good teams with coaches not on Atlanta’s level. Does Mr. Blank recognize this?: If not, maybe he should-and he probably does. We’ll see in a few weeks how this thing will turn out. We’ll see what kind of effort is given, as well. Bad coaching even with all out effort is still futile-and that’s the achilles heal for the Falcons.

It’s a shame some ATL fans are such idiots. What self-respecting NFL franchise would purposely lose on national TV to their mosted hated rival? If I didn’t know better I would think some ATL fans are seriously mentally challenged.

Right on Point Sir. That in itself is the main problem that isn’t being address. Why? Because there is either something in M. Turners contract that says -no matter what-he needs to have x amount of touches with the football. The Falcons give him touches, but do not utilized his strenghs with those touches. As for M. Turner-himsef, he’s isn’t as effective on his decisions, and I think that has to do with his attitude of really looking at his O-line and what they have not been doing for him. We as fans wonder: are they discussing or have they talked about-what was successful last year in the running game as opposed to this year? Why can’t the O-line block long enough for Turner to go through a hole on any particular play. I know that the good teams have figured this out. But even still, that doesn’t mean that you don’t run plays that would give you the best chance of success in the running game. Jamal Anderson, unlike M. Turner, was the kind of back that punished defenses with his upper and lower body, whereas he didn’t have to have a giant hole to run through like Turner. The Atlanta Falcons at one time, prioritized their offense with power running backs who were exposive. Lack of a running attack is THE one area in a weak offense that is killing the confidence in Atlanta’s ball control and drive sustainability. To not be able to get any amoutt of yardage (within reason)-to offensively control the clock-is a team killer and team confidence killer on both sides of the ball. The key play in the Saints game was when we had them in their territory and it was 4th and short. We were in the red zone with a 4th down and decided to put some puny points (3) on the game clock board. That decision to kick a field goal at that point in the game was major. Why? Because knowing the type of offense you are up against-Dree Brees, should have warranted a different approach to the opponent you are playing. Confidence in the red zone in a mental thing. Although I give credit where credit is due, N.O. didn’t do anything that spectacular play defense. The difference is that when N.O. had the ball-whether it was on those 3rd downs (8 for 8), or whether they were in the red zone (touchdowns)-they know that they are confidant in Drew Brees to generate touchdowns over any human being at any place and time on this earth, period. That’s a swagger that cannot be broken-unless equally matched by an opposing team with that type of backbone; not the backbone of a coach telling the media that he can’t be stopped (even if you believe it). As arrogant as Rex Ryan is as the head coach of the Jets-(I watched the news conference a couple of days ago) he has the one thing the coach Smith doesn’t have. That is (belief) that his team will do what he says they’ll do. You have to admire a man for that. But Mike Smith? He’s too passive of a guy to the point of-just makes me sick. This is football, man! Man up, way what’s on your mind, stand up to Mr. Blank, your OL coach, your DL coach and your ST coaches and assistants and run this show!

How any pro teams go into any games not wanting to win? It’s foolish to think the Falcons didn;t want to come into New Orleans on Monday night on national tv and not try to crush the Saints. The Saints as a time as well as our coaching stafs are in the heads on the Falcon players and coaches. You can only gain confidence to beat a team when you play them and you beat them. To go against a team and lose almost everytime you play them can’t be good for confidence. All these players on the Falcons saying we want to play them again aren;t serious its public relations on their part to say we are really scared but we have to say something to stay motivated.

Monday night’s game is the 1st time, in a long time, that the saints have stomped the Falcons. Most of the Falcon’s losses to the saints have been by very narrow margins.
At least 2 of the Falcons defeats in the last four years, have come at the hands of their own #1 WR, as he has dropped a game winning TD in each of those games.
The rest are due to one blown play by the Falcons, and a lot of help from the NFL zebras, for the saints.
Even Monday nights game was called in the saint’s favor, as are all of their games throughout the season.

the falcons just need to stop trying and play some football this team is full of foolness the reason the saint alway be the falcons is because the falcons watch the saint play instance of playing the saints. they need to watch film on the way they play themself and there on mistaked. The reason they can’t run the ball they don’t have a blocking schem they can’t set the edge off tackle for turner because he done lose a set trying to run a sweep. And the DT play patty cake with the saints OL and the cannot get off block. And our DB cannot cover a bed with a spread no screen plays to slow down pressure for ryan this team is a joke who ever they play in the playoff will go to the next round after they beat the falcons MS and BVG need andto blized more and our need to play more if they can stop letting the elite QB which you are going to face have a party on you, they reciever running though the zone like a mouse running though a kitchen so let get tuff not scare and beat somebody!!!!!!!!
