Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes intercepts Ravens quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Curtis Compton, ccompton@ajc.com
UPDATE: As expected, left cornerback Brent Grimes returned to practice on Tuesday. Here’s the story on his return. CLICK HERE!
FLOWERY BRANCH — The Falcons’ secondary could be at full strength for their matchup with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints’ vaunted passing attack.
Starting right cornerback Brent Grimes, who has missed three games after having knee surgery, is set to return to practice on Tuesday. Also, cornerback Kelvin Hayden, the team’s top nickel back who was out with a dislocated toe, could return to practice by Thursday.
“We are hoping tomorrow to have Brent Grimes back out on the field practicing,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said on Monday. “That will be a plus. I do not know about Kelvin Hayden for tomorrow, but maybe it will happen on Thursday.”

When the Steelers beat the 49ers tonight, the Pack clinches the #1 seed. They are no longer undefeated, and can start to resting some of their key starters, and drop two, not intentionally, but I can see them dropping their last 3.

Ben, The falcons should try opening up the season at the defending SB champ’s home stadium. 10 times out of 10, the visiting team will leave 0-1.

@ whodat1……but its not the Falcons, not the rivalry these two teams have had for decades. Some reason these two teams have some kind of magic to play tight close games. Sooner or later it will break wide open though, with Julio finding his groove thing you may get surprised. Harry Douglas burned you guys team last game and Roddy has a good game………..man you guys are in for some serious trouble. Atlanta’s going to break you guys in two pieces !

The 49ers aren’t all that either. They have no offense at all. They have gotten to the 10-3 on turnovers and short fields, and playing a lot of weak opponents. Steelers got this.

You can ignore seen. He’s not a Saints Fan. Ask him about how bad New Orleans would beat Jacksonville if they played them. He was on here ranting about the other day. Trouble is, the Saints did play Jacksonville. Anyone else forget about an entire game that their beloved team played? Didn’t think so.

Glad to see we has at least one good DB on the field. I am sure with Grime returning, Dunta will go back to taking up space and a roster spot. I wish the falcon would make some room on the bench for him. If we lose to NO Monday, it will be on Dunta 100%!

Grimes, pound for pound the most valuable player on defense…really need him to be on the field and be effective to have a shot against the Saints. And Hayden’s importance has been understated.

Good game last night at the bay, just Big Ben couldn’t do much wobbling around on that Pogo stick bum leg he has and 49ers win and take back 2nd seed from the Aints. Short lived wasn’t it Aints ?

With Grimes and Hayden coming back THAT HUGE! Mainly because the other corners Chris Owens and Dom Franks got some good snaps that has actually bolstered our defense think of when the Pack got corners hurt and their other corners got play time their secondary was improved because of that then came their run.

Truth, Mike Peterson is not old or slow. He has good hand for a LB and had a key interception against Cam Newton. Stephen Nicholas is little different, he takes bad angles and he has miss some interception. Grime has to play a great game against Drew Brees, this quarterback does not care and he will destroy you by 3 touchdowns on a good day. Secondary has to rise up, and Ray Edwards and Abe have to hit Drew Brees and look for the screen pass. The Atlanta Falcons can beat them if are secondary can get some interception and we can stop screen pass. GO FALCONS!!!!!
