FLOWERY BRANCH

– Defensive tackle Carlton Powell, who was waived from the active roster to make room for quarterback John Parker Wilson on Friday, was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Powell, 6-3, 312 pounds, was originally selected as a fifth round pick (148th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He was signed as a free agent by the Falcons on August 14, 2011 and saw action in three games this season before being waived on December 2.

@PowPow97 is back with the Squadron…good for him. It will tough for him to make the rotation right now, but glad the depth is on the D-line. WHAT HAPPENED TO PERIA JERRY….haven’t heard that name at all, he was a 1st round pick DT and pass rusher????

Thanks D. Led.
@Joe Tess Doubtful. Seems like we’re trying to continue driving the bust bus. I mean how many of TDs picks/free agents have been injury prone or BUSTS? 1) Peria Jerry 2) Kerry Meier (though I like the kid and think he still has upside if they actually put him on the field) 3) Ray Edwards-bust 4) Robinson-borderline bust ( I think he’s a victim of the system and would be better suited to play man to man vs this soft pillow zone) 5) gave up entirely too much for JJ and that may be his downfall. 6) Noodle arm Ryan- not a bust by any means, just an entirely too overhyped for a lower-middle tier game managing QB 7) Turner was a good pick up but carries and injuries are catching up. Anyone else see how Snelling hit the holes last week? 8) Gonzales- The guy is still an animal on the field. 9) Lofton and Spoon were excellent picks. Truth of the matter is that 4 years in, the honeymoon is over and we should see things more clearly for what they are. They did a great job rebuilding but sustaining is totally different. What we have is a creative GM yet inexperienced and gambles on picks and free agents. What we have here is a coach who is too nice for the nature of the game and it translates on the field. He keeps trying to play the noble card and blame it on him but there are too many others making mistakes. Too conservative offense, too soft of a scheme on D. Anyone who thinks we’re a Super Bowl contender right now is off their rocker. We just lost to a team with its 3 star players on the sideline and a 3rd string rookie QB. That should speak for itself.

Too Nice?…Mike Smith?…come on man. Mike Smith is like Bill Belichick, even all the time (Watch a press conference of both men and you would never know if the team won or loss, LOL). I’m sure he rips players in private, but not public. If you want an emo coach, root for the Bucs and Morris, LOL. I do think the team needs more to get to the next level, but the help is needed at Right Guard (Miss Harvey Dahl) and Defensive End (PURE PASS RUSHER) as Edwards is an expensive slightly better version of Jamaal Anderson, good against the run, so-so against the pass. Can we be a Super Bowl contender…who knows…BUT remember the 2010 Packers. I think we can win a 1st round playoff game if we get in. Not scared of any team in the NFC hunt aside from the Pack and maybe the Niners.

Chuck, Vangorder is only doing what Smitty wants him to–run that sorry, soft, bend but don’t break defense. Is this what Smitty calls being aggressive? Chile Please!

For crying out loud! Falcons are (2) dropped passes (Tampa and Houston) and a OT disaster (Saints) from being 10-2 and everybody praising them. Guess who leads the league in dropped passes? Rowdy Roddy White. Last year, we were lucky as heck to go 13-3 with little room for error – could have easily been 9-7 (remember San Fran game, NO first game, GB Game, and Baltimore). Frosty Head – Coach Smith is the best coach this franchise has every had, similar to Reeves, keep yourself in the game and execute at the end to win. I agree that TD trading draft picks for Julio may be his undoing. Julio might make mistakes, but you can not coach catching the ball in traffic, I think Julio was surprised the ball came to him on the last play of the game. Hit him right in the hands and surprising that the national media did not touch on it. Major article on ESPN about the undoing of our offensive line. Could have used a high profile lineman last year and this year, but wait no first round pick. I really think Ryan misses Jenkins although I never thought I would say that. Who knows why Snelling seems to be in the dog house? Abraham is starting to show his age and some of TD’s diamonds in the rough on defense have not panned out such as Sidbury.

I might hafta jump on the see-smitty-go bandwagon…yeah, he’s “put together” back-to-back winning seasons (3?), but ZERO playoff victories, and I don’t like him taking blame and covering for his players when NOTHING changes the next week…need to see players benched for “uncharacteristic” behavior, and put in players that will change the game (snelling, rodgers, douglas). Smith is an apologist, we need a hunter at HC, ’cause it seems there is no on-the-field leader…why? these guys obviously don’t believe in the system, and starting to not believe in each other. the juliio/roddy thing looks like egos at play…run more reverses and wildcats with julio, let him get streaking, and let the other players feed off that…keep sanders and hayden in at DB, keep decoud and owens OFF the field.

You guys are CLOWNS; the entie history of the Falcons was based on losing. The past four years(including this one) they have had a winning record and you CLOWN want to get rid of the people who put them there. Either most of you have not been Falcon fans long or you don’t know football, I am guessing the latter. You have a right to complain just know what your talking about when you do so. LET ME HEAR FROM YA.
