FLOWERY BRANCH — Tight end Ryan Winterswyk was signed to the Falcons practice squad today.

“We’ll see where it goes from here,” said Jason D. Bernstein, who represents Winterswyk for XAM Sports.

The former Boise State defensive end was with the Falcons in training camp. He suffered a severe high right ankle sprain and needed six weeks of rehabilitation.  To make room for Winterswyk, the Falcons released tight end Tommy Gallarda, who was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 12.

“He’s 100 percent now,” Bernstein said. “He worked out for them today and it went well.”

Winterswyk, of La Habra, Ca., started his career as a walk-on at Boise State.

He was a three-time All-WAC player at defensive end and finished his career with 44.5 tackles for loss.

But the Falcons signed the undrafted rookie to play tight end. He was pressed into tight end duty because of injuries last season for the Broncos.

“He handled the position change well,” Bernstein said. “Hopefully, he’s there for an extended period of time.”

Why would we need another TE, even on the practice squad? Oh well, thanks for the report either way D.Led.

They really liked the kid when he was here in training camp. They think he can be developed into a player.

Hmm maybe you guys should read the whole article before posting. We didn’t add an additional TE to the practice squad; we replaced one TE with another. We had Winterswyk in training camp, and the only reason he hasn’t been on the practice squad this entire time is that he was hurt. Now that he’s healthy, we’re putting him back on the practice squad.

Shows some class for the Falcons. I bet they liked him and told him they would get him back out there when he was ready.

DLed, I heard that we got rid of Andrew Jackson off the PS as well last week, is that true? Was he cut or injured?

We needs him for next season when Gonzalez goes to the old folk home with tired old Turner, Abe, Peterson, and Edwards. Now we just need to get some DB’s and DE’s on the practice squad.

Gonzalez is having a killer year for us, as is Turner, and Edwards will be on the team next year, we paid him, hopefully he’ll step up. Please don’t talk trash about Turner at 29 yrs old he’s on pace for:
1378 yds and 12 TD’s
and Gonzalez is on pace for:
85 rec. for 916 yds and 10 TD’s

I think they are solid, stop hating on the vets!

Go Falcons!!

“JB FALCON” The article also says he was pressed into service as a tight end at Boise State last year, the Falcons liked what they saw and plan to develop him at that position.

Hiram….that 4th and 1 fiasco may be the play that keeps the Falcons from the playoffs.

Why not try the Boise boy at DE. It’s not like we’re hurting anyone’s QBs.

i think it will be the 3-2 td lead we have in the 4ht qtr. on the 26th that does it but then again it may well be over for you before then!

Reggie Kelly is a one year deal and its quite evident he hasn’t made any type of impact, Palmer is a much better TE backup and Winterswyk has good potential.

Die Hard Falcon fan andrew got hurt then we cut him, i liked the kid too. We have our replacement for tony g in palmer from clemson so we have to really develope two, tony in his last year and i think will come back but we need to develope other young talent for sure. Good move just like we found our next full back in the draft the boy looks good too. Go falcons, I see the texans signed jake delhome from retirement.

Another reason the cheap behind NFL owners screwed the pooch in not creating a “real” developmental league (sans NFL Europe)… These are the players that need the work and game experience. College football is a joke in terms of developing real players beyond the stars. The exception to the rule players and the players who might need real seasoning slip through the cracks… I dislike Caleb King, but that kid would have really benefited from having the experience of being coached by NFL level staffs. Then he might acquired some discipline, the same for a position change player like Josh Nesbitt… Oh I forgot, developing players might cut into Arthur Blank’s ability to hire Stadium consultants!!!

Palmer is a UFA at the end of the season… And your team is almost capped out… He’s nobody replacement for anybody but a 2nd TE…

Are you kidding?
Winterswyk was AWESOME at Boise and was doing great in camp until the injury. Man, if this guy could do at the pro level what he did at the collegiate level we’d have the fearsome DE rotation we’ve been dreaming about for years…..

Be so sweet if we could get these Aint fans to stay off our Sports blogs….there’s something not right in their heads and that is just simple facts. What kind of retards camp out on another Sports Teams blogs all the time anyway.

Tony Gonzales probably may play another year maybe two or he may not but Turner will go a few more and talk about a running back…this guy hasn’t been hurt very much since he has been with the Falcons and all he does is have big yard seasons year after year. Its always good to see new up and coming players so the more the Falcons get the better.

Amazing video of a high school senior from Columbia TN who kicks the ball dead straight 75-80 yards in the air. He was successful on 54 of 54 attempts this season….100%. Now he needs a college team. Wants to go to Georgia Tech!

Watch for yourself…it is unreal!

Afraid I don’t get it.

He wasn’t good enough to be a tight end in college, but the Falcons think he can be one in the NFL?

Abraham won’t be around much longer, why not see what he can do at DE first? I mean Biermann wasn’t thought of all that highly at the start and he’s turned out pretty good as a d-lineman.
