FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons middle linebacker Curtis Lofton, the team’s leading tackler, suffered an ankle injury and was added to the injury report as “limited” on Thursday.

Also, left tackle Sam Baker went through his second practice after returning from a back injury.

Baker said the injury was related to a discectomy, a surgical procedure on herniated disc material in his lower back, that was done in 2008.

Baker would not say if he underwent an additional surgery for the recent injury that caused him to miss the last three games. The Falcons have just listed his injury as a “back” injury.

Lofton is third in the league with 85 tackles, according to NFL.com stats. He has 100 tackles, according to the coaches’ film review stats.

Lofton is the key figure in the Falcons run defense, which ranks third in the league, and he has had double-digit tackles in seven games this season.

Safety William Moore (quadriceps) and wide receiver Julio Jones (hamstring) did not practice.

The coaching staff would be smart to keep Baker on the bench and leave Will Svitek in as the starter. 3 games played and no sacks given up.

Rest JJ for the rest of the season..Needs time to completely heal too..His QB is liable to get him hurt again…..

We don’t miss Baker…Svitek is getting it done…

ANYWAY back to the blog subject…..We need Lofton badly. I hope he’s able to go. If not, i think Mike Pete has a good game left in him. Jones wouldnt be hurt if not for Ryan’s garbage throws. Keep Baker on the bench. Svitek has been solid.

Baker was playing out of position anyway. He has never lived up to his 1st round billing. Move him to right gaurd his natural position. His footwork is poor and his arms are too short to be a starting left tackle in this league.

Let Lofton, Baker, and Julio sit. We have competent replacements for all three. I especially like the way Mike Peterson plays. Maybe he can inspire the team. When will Van Gorder and Mularkey be added to the injury report (brain cramps)?

He let the Saints know off the go he wasn’t going to be pushed around, yeah Mike Cox was signed cause Ovie got hurt. Atlanta has some team depth now, Michael Palmer on Tight end, these two guys right here could be starters for sure in 2012.

Baker = bad draft choice. Arms too short and was injured too much in college – and is still getting injured too much. Tommy D missed on that one.

what i’d like to see is a team that cuts down on those stupid personal foul penalties. it might also help if roddy decides to play this weekend instead of practicing his fruity dance moves. ray edwards might want to start earning his contract as well.

Atlanta had like 85 yards against them in penalties and still played a tough game with the Saints…maybe more yards than that.

I would like to see Decoud make a play. He left soo many on the field last Sunday, then when he makes a normal tackle on a guy he acts like he just won the Superbowl because of his play. He needs to be re placed during the off season way too many plays during this season that he should of made.

@CGD I just call it like I see it. I like my team enough to tell the truth b/c I use logic and not emotion. People EMOTIONALLY see Ryan as this great guy who came in and led Atlanta to the playoffs. False. LOGICALLY, Michael Turner’s 1700 yards got us there that year and continues to be the reason we win games now. Ryan’s a cerebral Game Manager, nothing more. When Turner’s out or not having a good game, we see the difference in this team.

@FalconRob & Bigslow Oh man….pretty boy celebrates as if he is just the heart of the D. I’ve seen this guy do this when we were down by like 2 scores. I dont like him on the field. I think he may be the softest safety I’ve seen. He drops picks that are straight to him and tries to roundhouse kick them instead. I dont think he’ll be around after this season….

The schedule is in the Falcons favor. They have the ability to not only win games. But possibly peak going into post season play.If the team can raise thier level of play and play calling just a little. They can win out the regular season. And draw fear in the aints and the hackers. With all the issues the Falcons are having.THIS IS A GOOD TEAM

Amazing video of a high school senior from Columbia TN who kicks the ball dead straight 75-80 yards in the air. He was successful on 54 of 54 attempts this season….100%. Now he needs a college team. For some crazy reason, he wants to go to Georgia Tech…not sure why?

Watch for yourself…it is unreal!

Thought this is cool idea, makes interesting and easy read :

Season by Season { Stats past 4 years }

Matt Ryan

(2008) Wins 11 – Loss 5

265 of 434 attempts = 61.1 comp
3440 Total Yards
16 TDs

(2009) Wins 9 – Loss 7

263 of 451 attempts = 58.3 comp
2916 Total Yards
22 TDs

(2010) Wins 13 – Loss 3

357 of 571 attempts = 62.5 comp
3705 Total Yards
28 TDs

(2011) Wins 5 – Loss 4

197 of 328 attempts = 60.1 comp
2309 Total Yards
