Injured knee puts Falcons’ Mughelli out for season

The Falcons will place Ovie Mughelli on injured reserve, ending the fullback’s season.

Mughelli injured his right knee during Sunday’s victory in Detroit. Lions safety Louis Delmas hit Mughelli’s knee during a tackle in the fourth quarter following a 4-yard reception.

Mughelli did not return after the injury and was on crutches following the game.

The Falcons signed Mike Cox on Tuesday to replace Mughelli. Cox, who played at Georgia Tech, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs in 2008. A 6-foot-2, 252-pounder, he played in Kansas City for three seasons. He is the brother of Lucas Cox, also of Georgia Tech, who was in training camp with the Falcons this year.

Mughelli, who made the Pro Bowl last season, had four receptions for 25 yards and two touchdowns this season. He had two carries for one yard. He has cleared the way for much of running back Michael Turner’s 621 yards this season. Mughelli injured his right knee in the season opener against the Bears, missing only practice time.

The Falcons also worked out Mike Karney, Jason McKiee, Lousaka Polite, former Georgia fullback Verron Haynes and Demitri Nance on Tuesday.

My mom is so proud of me. I just won the Whiner of the Week Award! I just went out in the backyard and did some donuts with my pick up truck. Woo Woo! Look out world.

I wish I would have never signed to play here. Atlanta has the biggest bunch of babies for fans I’ve ever seen. They want NFL players to prance around in tutus and bow before touching anyone.

I was the best cheerleader I could be when I was in high school. In fact, high school was the best six years of my life.

WHODAT7556-Fortunately, you are not me so I will not shut up. Who gives a rat’s _______ what Heath Evans thinks or says? He could not even re-sign with your sorry football team…sounds like a bitter person to me. Secondly-I would rather experience losing to the Packers than the SeaHawks anyday of the week. But, as you said, you bag wearing losers were not expecting to make the playoffs. I guess that is like a consulation prize. Finally-you need to check your franchise record in comparision to the Falcons history in playoff wins. Do not forget that your sorry franchise just recently started being mentioned in the same breath with playoffs! I will see you in three weeks and borrow someone’s defense if you wish to compete!

[...] A few that I like… – To mark the 10th anniversary of its passage, the ACLU has put out this infographic on the PATRIOT Act. – The Walking Dead has been renewed for a third season. – Bad news for the Falcons, Ovie Mughelli is out for the rest of the year. [...]
