FLOWERY BRANCHJulio Jones led a list of Falcons who did not practice Wednesday. Jones’ injured left hamstring kept him out of last week’s game against the Panthers. The Falcons have a bye week following Sunday’s game against the Lions and should the rookie wide receiver miss that game he would have three weeks of recovery time.

Falcons coach Mike Smith would not rule Jones out of Sunday’s game.

“Julio is the kind of guy who is going to push the envelope,” Smith said. “He wants to get back in there. We are going to have to make sure the people in the athletic performance department and the doctors make the final decision. … We’ll just have to see how the rest of the week goes in terms of his availability for the game.”

John Abraham (groin), Todd McClure (knee), Christopher Owens (concussion), Garrett Reynolds (ankle) and Sam Baker (lower back) also did not practice. The Falcons had hoped Owens would practice, but he has not yet been cleared after recently passing the second stage of the concussion protocol. Smith reiterated that some players would be held out of practice as part of a maintenance program.

Jonathan Babineaux (knee), Tony Gonzalez (elbow) and Roddy White (knee) were limited participants. James Sanders (hamstring) returned to practice.

We need the d-line to step it up this week. We also need our O-line to resurrect more of last year’s nastniness. Last week was a good start.

Tell it like it is……….my guess you never played or you never had an injury. You just don’t” tape it up and run it off” with a hamstring or groin pull. You must do better than that if you want folks to take your posts serious! Do you really believe that a player that is hurt can help you win in the NFL? And a wide receiver, no less. Geez!!!!!!

JULIO = MAJOR BUST!!! I’m sorry guys, there’s no way around it. He is as advertised, Flashes of brillance, nice speed, good blocker; BUT NOT WORTH THE PICKS WE GAVE UP AS A WR – he’s still a poor route runner, seldom gets separation between he & DBs despite his speed, & will drop at least 1-2 balls a game; oh & he’s ALREADY injured. You get what you see guys, we knew this was JJ coming in. AJ GREEN, RANDALL COBB, even that rookie on the Raiders r already the absolute beasts they were projected & drafted to be.

Lesson to mgmt. here is, If u don’t get ur guy (a true blue-chip player, a Green, even a Cobb), u don’t empty the bank on a ‘good blocking,’ but often-injured & dropsies WR

Julio IS a 2nd tier player, w/ great atheletic ability – he’s not & will never be a top receiver in this league. And also, Roddy’s production has actually GONE DOWN since JJ’s arrival. Wasn’t that supposed to be the other way around?

Paddy

Paddy, r we watching the same team? The ATLANTA Falcons right? U could tell me Harry DOuglass’ production is up, & Tony G’s getting some nice grabs as well, but JJ – IS inconsistent w/ a major habit of Dropping or not pulling in Catchable balls thrown his way.

If he’s not going to be productive as catching the ball, he at least needs to be a good decoy for Roddy & the other guys, whenever he IS healthy.

Tim Dong, you must be crazy, five career starts (hurt in the fifth game), 25 rec for 358 yards and a 14.3 yard average. He’s got 5 catches of over 20 yards in 5 games with a long of 49 yards. 154 of his 358 receiving yards are after contact. I don’t know what more you want from a rookie WR that was supposed to find a role in an offense with Michael Turner, Roddy White, and Tony Gonzalez and has given them a huge boost from the very start with no camp.

Greg Moundine

October 19th, 2011
7:48 pm

Ok, I will make it shorter. T.O. is ready. He scored 9TD in 14 games last year and had 983 yards. He is good after the catch and is agressive. Do not let another team steal this talent. Our WRs are banged up and Julio might not play this week. A hammy is a tough injury.

I love R. Moss, but T.O. is stronger and tougher. Mr. Blank, we must take a chance on T.O. Like you do, I want a Championship in Atlanta!

Greg Moundine

October 19th, 2011
7:57 pm

I agree with both of you above, Julio has done his thing as a rookie and R. White numbers are down, but I think part of this has to do with Ryan not having time to sit in pocket to let routes develop.

Again, I say we must get T.O. Call me crazy or what you want, but T.O. is what we need on our team. Could you imagine what a Defense will have to deal with!

Tim j Dong

Through 6 games:

Julio (R) = 25 Rec been Targeted 42 Times, for 358 yds & 0 TDs (#6 OVERALL pick)
AJ Green (R) = 29 Rec been Targeted 49 Times for 453 yds & 4 TDs (w/ a rookie QB)
Michael Jenkins = 24 Rec been Targeted 30 times, for 221 yds & 2 TDs (who JJ replaced)
Tony Gonzalez = 30 Rec been Targeted 44 Times for 318 yds & 4 TDs (Atl REAL #2 threat)

. . . JJ is the only guy who’s inactive & already missed 1 game on this list also.

JB

For Julio, should act like he might play as long as possible so Lions factor him in game plan, but don’t play him and let him rest with bye week. We have other capable receivers.

JJ would be a great receiver in some system like GB, Saints or Pats. He does not have anyone to thow ball down the field. All balls I saw thrown to him deep has been out of bounds. I agree, falcons gave up to much for him. When they need O-line, cornerbacks .
He will be a Chris Houston, Falcon will give him away. Same falcons just a different owner.

Henny, ‘what more can we ask?’ How bout’ :
1) catching the ball when it’s thrown to u in the end zone, or
2) not letting it go through your hands on deep routes.
3) Staying healthy

That’s all, I’ll give u that, there have been flashes of some good play. JJ’s a solid 3rd option on most teams – only problem is that’s not worth the #6 pick & our 2012 draft

Greg Moundine

…T.O. has never had another strong WR on the other side of him and still dominated..then what D. Coord. got smart and started put two or more Defensive backs on him and of course that made him frustrated.

Put T.O. on a team like Atlanta with all our weapons.. Defenses will have to pick their poison, JJ, R. White, Gonzalez or T.O.

Greg M, agreed, TO on paper is a monster. However, he’s also well passed his prime, a cancer in the locker room, a total ME – 1st person & player and also rather disloyal & publicly critical to teammates & coaches. The last thing Matty Ice & the falcons need is to have TO barking at them for why he didn’t throw him the ball 20 times a game. We don’t need a circus show on a team that’s trying to compete for relevance & a Super Bowl! Let the Patriots, Titans or Raiders have him.

Greg Moundine

@Tim j Dong: I partially agree. Our fans are killing our Falcons now, they want Murlarky head! T.O. screamed due to his teams was not winning and D. Coordinators were doubling him. With TO, R.White, JJ and Gonzalez we will be awesome. We will be a winning combination. Let’s not compare Cowboys. Look at Romo now. Still not proven. Again, T.O. has never had any other strong receiver on the opposite side of him. When he had Chad Johnson on his team in Cincy, TO was the calm one and Chad was the one frustrated. Another thing I learn in all sports, when you get in your prime, you usually calm down due to you want another championship or a first one! Do you see Chad barking in New England. It starts with the coach. T.O. can fit in Atlanta system.

No Go-Routes!

Julio Jones? SIT HIM DOWN … Before he shred his hamstring and end up like Bo Jackson.

Remember when Bo was tackled from behind and sheared his pelvis muscles Away from the pelvis bone like a banana peel. When you peel away muscles from bones, it is called an Avulsion Fracture. That is the worst kind of fractures, because the tendons pull the skin (periosteum) off the bone and that requires career ending surgery.

Plates, screws, pins and ball game over. I know I am being dramatic here, but this is the worse case scenario and it’s just not worth the risk to play a cinderella Lions team when the bye is the following week. Julio may be out 5 to 6 weeks total. I hope not, but, I trust the medical staff here.
Don’t let the patient dictate care – Never that!
_______________

Get Well Soon Roddy! Your teammates will step up, maybe even Bullarky will too? Draw up a scheme man! Use your available assets on offense and put them in space man!

Yes, Ryan needs just a little more time in the pocket and things will open up. Just Julio’s showing up on the field means they have to respect him, and just use him to make those short first down throws.

Julio is a beast, and will be for a long time in this league. The Falcons came out forcing the ball to Julio, but I think the game without him will help show them how to incorporate him into the offense better. The Falcons may have given up to much for JJ, but that still doesn’t take away from the talent and potential of this kid. The fact that the Falcons are a run first team takes away from some of the potential JJ brings, not to mention the o-line and QB. Matt Ryan is solid but he is a dink and dunk type QB, not going to take many shots down field. The Bengals have a rookie QB but that hasn’t stopped them from going deep to AJ Green.

OPEN YOUR EYES! YEAH, . . . DO THAT, OPEN UR EYES. We’ve blown what little spending cash we had on a 2nd Tier WR, who’s many RED FLAGS (we were naive enough to ignore) – are all coming to fruition & will haunt us for years to come BOY!
Since u didn’t understand the 1st time let’s review:
- Drops the ball,
- Doesn’t get good receiver separation so when, Ryan does fling it his way, has to be a perfect pass
- Has 0 TDs through almost half the season
- Let’s catchable balls go through his hands
- Hasn’t even been a good DECOY for Roddy, so far – would help if he could stay healthy enough to remain on the field.
- Cost us our 2012 draft as well as the spending $ we could’ve used to go out & get some Defense
- IS HURT ALREADY

Wishful thinking is good, but have to accept reality at some point. Unfortunately for us the rest of the season will confirm our fears about HOOLIO

Ryan-bashers need to watch more games, not just repeat what ESPN analysts r saying. ‘Natural Ice’ went deep a few different times last game to Roddy & Harry, perfect throws – got defensive interference called on 2 of those plays. Admittedly he has thrown some ugly long-balls in earlier games, but he can throw deep. Again, WR separation is critical – Jones hasn’t really shown us he can beat his guy deep. Roddy & Harry have.

The bottom line is the Falcons must click on all cylinders. Yea, we have heard this before, but I believe this. Think about this guys, if you ever played football can you imagine yourself going from middle school football to High, High to College and can you imagine College to Pro! Not to mention not having a full training camp and going through a lockout. You darn right, you will be nervous also. JJ has the talent. I can see him in the future with an answer from an interview starting as such. “when I first came in the league, I was a very nervous, I did not know the importance of route running, beating Ds and so _____took me under his wing and taught me a lot. For this I give him and Coach _______so much credit.” It happens to all the great ones! Give JJ a chance and Ryan. They are both still young.

FIRST OF ALL,YOU KEEP ON BABBLING ABOUT HOW HE CAN’T GET SEPARATION OFF DEFENDERS!!! WELL ITS EITHER YOU BLIND OR YOU NEED TO “OPEN UP THEM DAMN EYES”, BECAUSE JULIO BEAT HIS MAN EVERY PLAY IN THE GREEN BAY GAME!!!! MATT RYAN KEPT OVERTHROWING HIM, WHICH LED TO HIS HAMSTRING INJURY!!!! YOU PROBABLY WOULDN’T KNOW THAT BECAUSE YOU EITHER HAVE YOU HEAD UP YOUR ASS OR YOU’RE JUST PLAIN RETARDED!!!!

SECOND, THE REASON WHY HE HAS NO TOUCHDOWNS IS BECAUSE RYAN NEVER TARGETS HIM IN THE REDZONE AND WE ALL KNOW THAT!!! THEY EITHER RUN IT UP THE MIDDLE WITH TURNER OR PASS IT TO TONY!!!! SO HOW THE F**K IS HE SUPPOSED TO SCORE A TOUCHDOWN WHEN HE ISN’T GETTING THE BALL THROWN TO HIM IN THE ENDZONE!!!

THIRD, YOU MUST BE A TRUE NIMROD TO THINK THAT JULIO IS DROPPING THE BALL. EVEN IF HE DROPPED A BALL THIS SEASON, RODDY WHITE HAS THE SECOND MOST DROPPED BALLS BEHIND BRANDON MARSHALL (FROM DENVER). I CAN JUST TELL YOU DO NOT WATCH THE GAME CORRECTLY AND MAKE THESE ABSURD ACCUSATIONS FROM LITERALLY NOWHERE TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL SMART!!!!!!! BOY YOU MISTAKEN!!

TJD – You’re calling Julio a “major bust”? Based on what you think his value should be relative to what the Falcons gave up? In other words, unless he’s a seasoned Jerry Rice straight out the box, you’re going to hate him? That’s stupid. It might make the GM an idiot, but it doesn’t make Jones a bust.

He’s tied for 20th in the NFL in receptions among WRs, five games out of the gate, with nearly similar stats rec/yards to Andre Johnson. Is AJ a bust, too? Yes, AJ got his in 4 games to JJ’s 5. Look at the players behind JJ on the WR list for rec/yards in 6 games. Are all those guys busts, too? Harvin? Moss? Lloyd?

“But they didn’t give up….” Brings me right back to my original point. He didn’t make anyone trade 9 picks for him. He didn’t ask to be put into an offense with 3 proven playmakers at WR, TE, and RB ahead of him in seniority.

I think he’s doing a heck of a job in a tough situation. You know, the kind where his “failure” to have 51 balls for 785 yards and 6 TDs by game 6 has people calling him a bust.

Key to the game? Element of surprise. Stadium will be lound so it will come down to offensive line discipline and penalty free football. Hard snap counts, and audibles, which the birds will have to use hand signals. Defensively, I think they will need to do a bang up job at getting to the quarterback. No soft zones. Hamstrings do not heal quickly, no matter how many steroids one takes. Only an idiot head coach would suggest a lame player play. Still have a concussion, missing a game is better than committing suicide at 49. Have a lower back that hurts from twisting to hold a defensive end that got by you with ease, stay in Atlanta and don’t make the trip to Detroit. It is a child’s game, and just because those children make bizillions of dollars that the fans pay every cent of (one way or another) they should not be treated any less than a 6-year old with a scraped knee would be. The answer to the injury list is simple – don’t practice them or play them until they are healthy. Maybe if they paid the players less they could hire 100 players. The University of Alabama football team does that. Plenty of healthy players around then.

Could it be because he has less than 3 drops? http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leaders.asp?type=Receiving&range=NFL&rank=232

It is absurd to call any player a bust after 6 games in the NFL. It is absolutely insane to call a player with JJ’s stats a bust. I know your just trolling but find something at least semi plausible.

What a defference in fans of college and Pro football. The Bulldogs rave about their players & coaches even when they show poor sportsmanship and some Pro fans blast their players even when the they have done pretty well and are injured. JJ has done as well as could be expected with the way our offensive line has performed. Hard to run a route when your quarterback has about 2 seconds to throw. We shouldn’t give us on him at this early date.

OPEN YO EYES BOOOOYYYYY!!!! u so crazy. R u & JJ goin’ out?

Major Busts r equivalent to D. Heyward-Bay, (whom Julio’s #’s r almost identical, except for JJ has 0 TDs), Any Lions receiver drafted in the top 10 not named Megatron, or any player u overpay or trade too much 4 = JJ. U r right about he didn’t force the Falcons to go all in 4 him, but if ur the #6 pick, u better be ready to come in & dominate the league, make big plays (look at Aldon Smith avg. a sack a game; A.J Green avg. almost a TD a game; Cam Newton; Von Miller) & score TDs (which means u must GET OPEN in the RED ZONE). With 2 major threats like ‘Rowdy’ Roddy & Touchdown Tony G., that shouldn’t be THAT HARD.

Here’s an athlete’s lesson on hamstring injuries. Hammies usually get pulled or snap
a) when ur not stretching well before games, or
b) u didn’t give a dam in practice the week before the game, hence u go from inactive, exerting no force, to 100mph, hard as I can go or
c) Ur old, & u just wear it out – (Chipper Jones)
Julio has a history of injuries & not being able to go come game time. Again, Falcons mgmt., there were RED FLAGS all over the place w/ our friend Julio.

And yes the bust comment is not just an evaluation through 6 games, but also a prediction – Julio catches less than 48 passes this year.

Problem:
1. Mr. Tiptoe himself – M. Turner – Run the to the hole with your soft @$$
2. Offensive Line – Get some push upfront & block for the ICEMAN!!!
3. Offensive Line – Put a HAT ON A HAT.
4. Offensive Line – If you can only block with only 1 arm, use that arm to pull your non-blocking @$$ to the bench. Please
5. Offensive Line – The QB/Iceman needs time to pass the BALL. Hey Left Tackle I know that you know him because your @$$ always seems to have eyes fixed on him looking up saying sorry man. How sad is that.
6. Defense we need some more fines out there. Need I say more!!!
7. No Point on the board. – O Line. Need I say more!!!

Solutions:
1. Get T.O. and Moss. This will allow us to spread the wide on all downs. NOBODY CAN COVER THEM ALL and you’d be surprised.
2. We haven’t forgot about you Cotton aka Tiptoe. If you don’t run NORTH/SOUTH (FINE)-(BENCH)-(CUT) p.s. someone else needs the spot. Who you say THE ATL. the people who pay to see you play. Well in your case.. THAT CRAP YOU STINK UP THE FIELD WITH!!!
3. O-LINE – If we don’t start seeing passing protection, holes opening, down field blocking you will need PRESIDENT OBAMA’S JOB BILL PRETTY QUICK.. You stink with that CRAP. Oh the guys on the other side of the ball AREN’T YOU FRIENDS!!! THAT’S A T.V. SHOW ON T.V. LAND and if you keep up the same work you’ll be watching soon.
4. RUN Game – We want to see big backs going thru the hole that can get at least 1 yd. at will and not the backs of the O-Lines backs on the ground backing up.
5. D-Fense – 2 things. If you can get respect settle for FEAR!!! Enough SAID!!!
6. O-Line – This works the same way for you. If you can get respect settle for FEAR!!! Enough SAID!!!
7. Coach Smith – Please don’t be afraid of some so called bad apples. You are watching the same game we all are and the barrel is spoiling without them now. Stay tuned!! Please don’t be afraid to END CAREERS WHY LET INJURY HAVE ALL THE FUN. The PATS, LIONS, SF & GB ALL SHOW UP ON SUNDAY TO WIN WHILE WE (THE FANS) WONDER IF AN O-LINE OR BACK WILL DO THEIR JOBS.

Lastly,

THE TRASH NEEDS TOBE TAKEN OUT NOW!!!

I love the Dirty Birds!!! Let’s play like it!! Atlanta accepting the nobody type players show and we accept them on OUR TEAM!! We need to cut & bash them ourselves in the media so that they will get off their @$$e$ and play hard for us. If they don’t the need to hang from the CROSS they carry..

[...] Jones hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday yet, but he missed practice yesterday and the Falcons are taking a cautious [...]

TIM CHUNG DUNG- ARE YOU RETARDED???……………..NO SERIOUSLY ARE YOU REALLY THIS STUPID TO SAY THAT JULIO IS A BUST 5 GAMES INTO HIS CAREER!!!!! YOU NEED TO STOP IT RIGHT NOW BRO, BECAUSE YOU HAVE LOST ALL OF YOU’RE CREDIBILITY AND RESPECT ON THIS BLOG!!!!! WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU THINK THAT PLAY SPECTACULAR IN ALL OF HIS GAMES WHEN THIS IS A RUNNING TEAM!!!!! HE HAD THE MOST YARDS AND RECEPTIONS FOR ROOKIES AND THE TEAM BEFORE HIS INJURY!!!! HE HAS ONLY DROPPED 3 BALLS!!! 3 BALLS BRO!!!!! SO JUST STOP IT WITH THE DROPPING S**T!!!!!

YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING AND YOU ARE JUST LITERALLY TALKING OUT OF YOU’RE ASS RIGHT NOW!!!! NOBODY CARES ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY BRO!!!! THE REASON WHY IM EVEN RESPONDING TO YOUR IGNORANT ASS IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE DONE A BIG DISSERVICE TO THIS BLOG BY YOU’RE INSANE INTAKE ON JULIO!!!!!!

YOU REALLY NEED TO STOP TALKING ABOUT INJURIES BRO, BECAUSE THEY REALLY DON’T MATTER!!!!!! IF JULIO WANTED TO PLAY THIS WEEK’S GAME HE WOULD, BUT MIKE SMITH SAID THAT HE WILL NOT PLAY HIM, WHICH IS A SMART MOVE. EVERY TIME HE HAS STEPPED ON THE FIELD HE HAS PUT IN 100%, ITS NOT HIS FAULT IF RYAN KEEPS OVERTHROWING HIM!!!!! THE REASON WHY A.J GREEN HAS MORE TOUCHDOWNS IS BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST RECEIVER ON HIS TEAM PLAIN AND SIMPLE, PLUS THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE CEDRIC BENSON SO THEY HAVE TO THROW THE BALL!!!! IF YOU ARE REALLY GONNA SAY THAT JULIO IS A BUST JUST 5 GAMES INTO HIS CAREER, THEN I FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR MOTHER!!!! CAUSE SHE RAISED AN ABSOLUTE FOOL!!!!!!

LIKE I SAID AGAIN GO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU EMBARRASS YOURSELF SOME MORE!!!!! YOU HAVE LOST ALL YOUR CREDIBILITY AND I AM ASHAMED THAT YOU ARE A FALCONS FAN!!!!! YOU NEED TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND FIX YOURSELF BEFORE YOU COME BACK ON THIS BLOG!!!!!! NOW GO CRAWL UNDER A DUMPSTER YOU STUPID PIECE OF S**T!!!!!!!!!!

IF JULIO CAN PLAY AT HALF SPEED FOR UNDERNEATHE ROUTES THEN I’LL TAKE HIM OVER ANY OF THE OTHER FALCONS RECEIVER AT FULL SPEED, ANYTIME!!!

IF JULIO CAN PLAY WITHOUT RISKING FURTHER INJURY THEN SUIT HIM UP AGAINST THE LIONS AND LET HIM USE HIS BIG BODY TO POST UP DB’S ON UNDERNEATHE ROUTES.

SUNDAY, USE JULIO TO PLAY ON PARTICULAR DOWNS YARDAGE SITUATIONS.

AND WHERE IS JACQUIZZ ON SCREENS PLAYS AND RUNNING BACK RECEIVING PLAYS?

Anybody who says JJ is a bust doesn’t know squat about football.

I agree that the O line hasn’t protected Ryan like it should. And, Ryan’s also not having quite the stellar year…so far. But, he came thru brilliantly in the 4th qtr of the Carolina game.

I’m like Smitty, play JJ when the med staff clears him.

Typing in all caps is considered YELLING. I scroll thru em.

JJ avg 14.3; yards after catch 152
RW avg 11.0; yards after 126
Therefore, JJ is not a ‘bust’.

Bringing in TO or Moss is one of the craziest ideas I’ve ever heard. RW is a Pro Bowler and JJ is quite likely going to be one too. Those two paired with HOF’er Tony G makes for quite a potent receiving corps; with pretty good backups.

Meanwhile, Ryan has an 82 QB rating; not terrible but not so hot either.

M Turner is 9th in the league; out of 122 RBs and FBs.
