FLOWERY BRANCH – The long-suffering Detroit fans, like my uncles Gerald Sr. and Fred (we just call him Uncle Skippy),  have turned Ford Field into the “Seattle of the Midwest,” according to Falcons coach Mike Smith.

Over the last two games, the fans have made it difficult for the opposing offenses to hear the snap count with a high noise level. Smith credits the Detroit fans with causing 14 procedural penalties.

“We’re going to have to really work on our communication,” Smith said. “We’ll have the noise rolling all practice long this week.”

When the Falcons played Seattle earlier this season they did not commit any procedural penalties. They took the crowd out of the game by going up 27-7 before holding on for a 30-28 victory.

The Falcons will practice this week with noise from jet engines piped through huge speakers and they’ll be prepared to trot out their hand signals if they can’t communicate verbally.

There are no major changes on the team’s “unoffcial depth chart”, although it might be wise to pencil Harry Douglas in at the “X” receiver spot for another week. There’s no need to rush rookie Julio Jones back from his hamstring when you have the bye week and he can get closer to 100 percent.

Good morning Falcons fans. We’ll be able to quiet down the Lions fans with some early TD’s.

The reason to push Jones is because he can help win the game.

Hopefully the Falcons win the coin toss, get the ball and go on a long drive for an early score. This will take the crowd out of the game. Go Falcons!

the falcon need to come out and play all four quarter of football. they need to be agressive on both side of the ball but especially on offence and defence. dunta need to quit trying to throw the cheap shot and play. he just lazy since he got here. we can only hope white return to playing with his hand and feet instead of playing with his mouth. hopefully tired old abe got some rest this week so he can contribute a little more than he be in the past few game. i agree that julio should sit out this game unless white have another melt down, in that case, julio going to have to show white how to catch the ball. maybe we get lucky and baker only give up 15 yard in penalties this week or we get even luckier and he don’t get ryan squashed.

This O Line is going to be greatly tested. Im concerned about baker holding up all day. Ryan is going to have to make smart decisions and Mularkey needs to make even smarter ones. I already know what he’s going to do, especially after Turner had a good game against a bad team. More Turner, more snores. Guess it doesnt matter as long as they win. Defensively, I think we’re in trouble in the secondary. As much as I like Robinson, Im starting to really wonder about this guy. LOVE our LBs though. They are the strength of the D. We’ll see what kind of team we really have when the clock hits 0:00.

The Falcons had the same problems against the Panthers they’ve had all season. The can’t stop the pass, they give up too many 3rd down. and long plays and they still started slow. The Panthers weren’t able to exploit them, however the Lion will. Hopefully the offense comes to play.

Unfortunately, Peria has not stepped up enough to over shadow what Corey Peters is doing. Not that Peters has been a world beater, but he has been pretty good. Peria has been playing and honestly I’ve yet to see him show up on film. For the Falcons, all the defensive linemans have been getting snaps. As soon as Peria makes a splash, he will begin starting.

Who’s going to stop Calvin Johnson and Brandon Pettigrew? I like Grimes but he’s like a foot shorter than Calvin and Dunta can’t cover a player on crutches. Nichols better blanket Pettigrew or he’s going to have a huge game. Good thing Best is still hurting.

The falcons just need to get a first possession touchdown. They are one of the best in the league at holding a lead. It allows them to relax and play the type of football they are best suited for, which is run first and pass when the defense overloads the box. Quote me on this, “If the falcons get the lead first we will have a victory in Detroit.”

The Falcons will get the beat down that the 49ers were suppose to get. They better have their cell phones so they can text when the snap count is cause they will not hear themselves think while on Ford Field.

The 49ers were getting good pressure on Stafford which made him throw to his recievers who well covered by 49ers…where normally in past games Detroit would have separtion…they did have better luck throwing under to Pettergrew…I can’t remember what they did in the run game maybe you can help me there…..

Don’t worry about double-teaming Megatron–he’s proven he can beat a triple team. The key is getting pressure on Stafford. Once the ball is on the way to Johnson, you’ve lost the battle, and we’d better hope Grimes can channel all of his 40″ vertical leap on pass defense.

Jump out early, and make Stafford force passes. This Lions team could very well be like the ‘86 Falcons–they started 4-0 and finished with a losing record.

And who cares what the Falcons all-time record is against Detroit? So Gerald Riggs and Bill Fralic could never beat them–last time I checked they aren’t on the active roster.

Im not too worried about this game, Falcons will win this one. Detroit is a good team, however they are still young. Falcons stick with running the ball and chew up the clock, draws, screens and Turner left, right and up the middle. Limit Stafford to minimal possessions. Final score similar to last week, Falcons 34 , Detriot 20.
It will close in the 4th quarter.

Keep doing what works, run the ball. That being said-and knowing that Detriot will be keying on stopping the run, have a pass first option no huddle offensive series package that will get Detriot to soften the thier run defense and chew up clock. Just as you would do against Green Bay, New Orleans, Patriots, etc., keep the opponents offense off of the field. Get the early lead, and don’t sit on it, but be creatively aggressive and active to put up at least 48 points. Why this many points? Because if you can put up that many points and have the lead, then Detriot will run out of time-even if they mount a comeback, because your defense will play aggressive the rest of the game-when they know that their offense can produce that many points.

Some of you guys just need to take it like a man/woman you are not real Falcons fans. I’vebeen saying all along once the Falcons get their ship moving in the right direction, they are going to be tough to beat. The only team the Lions have beat down was KC Chiefs. Get for rea people Detroit is not a game that we should fear. Cam Newton to Steve Smith was something that I had to hear about last week until I took my seat at the Dome last Sunday. Pettigrew will be shadowed by a LB or safety and be inaffective. If Stafford tyies to chump Grimes by throwing the ball up, Grimes will make him regret it. Bottom line, GO FALCONS!!!!!

Falcons have a tough task, Suh is the best defensive lineman to come out of college in a long time. However, we are the better team, we just have to start playing like it again. The all-time record means nothing, the Falcons destroyed the Lions in MR2’s debut, but this Lions team is much better, and our Falcons in this MS, TD, and MR2 regime are much better than many teams we’ve had in the past, different coaches, players, league the all-time records mean nothing. We must stop the big play to Megatron, if we make them earn it, we will win, as long as we win or tie in the TO battle and limit our penalties, we will win a grind out against them. GO FALCONS and please utilize Jacquizz

@Rob, I despise Mularkey as possibly one of the most over rated OC’s n football, at any level..

However as Detroit is very poor against the run I would tend to agree with him on this game that we need to pound it between tackles. Now with that said DET knows this and will see this so Mularkey also needs to adjust if DET starts to load the box by calling screen passes and quick slants, roll outs and maybe a draw play in order to keep their D honest..

My problem with MM is he’ll continue to stay with his running game plan even when DET has 8 in the box!!

All in all this game basically allows ATL to have 2 BYE weeks back to back.. :)

“My problem with MM is he’ll continue to stay with his running game plan even when DET has 8 in the box!!”

Or even nine in the box. If anyone still has the vid of the Seahawks game, check out Atlanta’s awful 3-and-out following Decoud’s interception – the one he tried to run out of the end zone but got tackled at the four yard line.

On first and second down, the Falcons attempted to run up the middle against a NINE man front. They had all the success you’d expect – third and twelve.

D-Led may disagree, but the play calling really has been a big part of the problem.
