FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons (2-2) will be without center Todd McClure and defensive end John Abraham and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux are questionable for the game against the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers (4-0) at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

McClure was declared “out” on the team’s injury report submitted to the league on Friday. Abraham suffered a hip injury and Babineaux, who is recovering from a partially torn MCL in his left knee, were limited in practice.

McClure, who had knee surgery on Aug. 29, had his franchise-record streak of 144 consecutive starts snapped when he didn’t play against Chicago in the season-opener. He started in the third game of the season against Tampa Bay and last week against Seattle, but aggravated the knee and had to give way to second-year man Joe Hawley.

Hawley was solid in his two starts against Chicago and Philadelphia. Also, center-guard Brett Romberg, who played against Philadelphia, is available. He’s been inactive for the last two games.

McClure and defensive end Cliff Matthews (knee) did not practice.

The Falcons’ pass rush will be hurt if Abraham and Babineaux don’t play. Abraham leads the team with two sacks. The defense has not registered a sack in the three games that Babineaux has missed.

The other players listed on the injury report were full participants in practice and are listed as “probable.” That group includes: Wide receiver Roddy White (thigh), tight end Michael Palmer (ankle), safety William Moore (neck), cornerback Christopher Owens (ankle), linebacker Stephen Nicholas (calf) and running back Jason Snelling (concussion).

GREEN BAY’S INJURY REPORT

With right tackl Bryan Bulaga out with a knee injury, Marshall Newhouse will start at right tackle for the Packers. The Falcons should have an advantage with Ray Edwards, Kroy Biermann or Lawrence Sidbury on Newhouse. With Abraham questionable, Sidbury has to be view as the No. 3 end.

Also, linebacker Clay Matthews has not practiced all week with a quadriceps injury, but is expected to play. Right tackle Tyson Clabo should have the advantage.

Bryan Bulaga, T Knee  Did Not Participate — Out

Chad Clifton, T Knee  Did Not Participate — Probable

Nick Collins, S Neck –  Out

Donald Driver, WR Shin Limited Participation — Probable

Ryan Grant, RB Kidney Full Participation — Probable

Brad Jones, LB Hamstring Did Not Participate — Questionable

Jamari Lattimore, LB Shoulder Limited Participation — Probable

Pat Lee, CB Back Limited Limited Participation — Probable

Clay Matthews, LB Quadricep  Did Not Participate — Probable

Mike Neal, DE Knee – Out

Andrew Quarless, TE Knee Did Not Participate — Doubtful

Ryan Taylor, TE Shoulder Full Participation — Probable

Tramon Williams, CB Shoulder Limited Participation — Probable

Charles Woodson, CB Foot / Knee Limited Participation — Probable

We need Abe & Babs to be ready but we don’t want to risk further injury to either….It may turn out to be Sidbury’s time to shine…Lets Go Falcons!

This is bad, bad news. Abe and Babs are two huge pressure points, without them, it’s gonna be grim. I am ready to declare Ray Edwards a bomb, anyone want to join me, or you want to give him another game or 30? I think he had 1 tackle last week. I hate to say it, but I think McClure is probably done. We need to face facts and replace Baker, he’s just not cutting it. We need more help on the O-Line, or else pray Matty stays real mobile. Nevertheless, I am hopeful (and prayerful) about the Pack game. Rise Up, Falcons!

On the Packers side Clay Matthews did not practice all week but is listed as Probable…Hmmm? and Charles Woodson didn’t practice on Wed. or Thurs. and had only limited participation on today, and is also listed as Probable.. Their not being close to 100% or not even playing will definitely favor our running game as well as pass protection. They have a lot of banged up guys too..But it really troubles me if Babs and Abe can’t play.

If they can’t play, they can’t play. They are warriors and there should not be any question of their intestinal fortitude. That said, if they can’t go, we are in an even bigger world of hurt. Possibly Bosher could contribute on the defense as he seems to be a much better tackler than punter/kick off specialist.

Bryan Bulaga is out for the Packers and Marshall Newhouse is not supposed to be worthy. Edwards, Sid or Kroy should be able to beat him.

PaulieOld school-U might want to spend all Saturday and Sunday in church to have any chance…and still…don’t think that will be enough…to many playmakers and Rodgers playing at a MVP calibur, 124 QB rating, 74% completions rate, with only 2 INT’s this season, with 12 TD’s…not including the 3 TD’s he’s scored on runs…brutal! Falcons going in wrong direction…DOWN!

Hey D Orlando, Edwards has only one tackle for a loss all season, 9 tackles in 4 games and no sacks..so far that spells BUST! Getting crushed by Chicago, losing to TB and squeeking by Seattle…I wldn’t bet the farm on Edwards performance…but don’t take my word for it…

DLed, any info on Abraham’s injury? Wasn’t on the injury report earlier in the week? Do you know if it was more “he felt a twinge and we just took it easy on him today” or “Whoa, he’s been writhing on the ground for several minutes, get the stretcher out.” ?

CGD-yea I read that too…it’s just getting worse for the Falcons…plus, compared to last yrs playoff game, now the Packers have Finley, a beast of a tight end that is as athletic and fast as a receiver but big and strong as a tight end, and we have Grant to keep the D honest for play action…plus we have a new playmaker in Cobb, who ran back a 108 yard kickoff return for a TD and caiught a TD pass in his first NFL game…Geeez…oh…and Rodgers is playing better than his MVP performance during the SB…that was just a warm up :) If I were a Falcon fan, I wld start drinking early…

Need to keep Aaron Rodgers on the sideline by sustaining longs drives and milking the clock. On defense need to get to the Aaron by keeping constant blitzes and hits on him make him work even if he does beat us a couple of times you have to keep the blitz on.

PackerFan

SeenThisB-Rodgers actually has a better QB rating against the blitz…more TD’s, yardage, etc, so the Packers actually like to see the blitz if gives them one on one situations that Rodgers can exploit with his quick release or feet. On running the ball, Packers #2 against the Run, last 4 games Packers have outscored opponents in the first half something like 150-85, so when teams get down, they usually abandon the game plan of running and resort to the pass…I certianly don’t see your D line even close to making it a game, they seem worse than last yr, especially with Edwards being a bust and injury’s…and the O line also seems to be suspect, although not as bad as D line…and keep in mind, Packers will throw so many different looks with delayed and exotic blitx pkgs, that it might confuse some D line players…just sayin …Chicago tried to run and we held Forte to about 4 yards all game and the whole team we held to about 14 yards…

Peria needs to have a career best game this sunday.

Oh, and Pat Y at ESPN agrees with many of us fans, does not agree with DLed:

. Walker (Atlanta, GA)
Pat – I’ve kept up with the stats, and this year, when the Falcons have used the no-huddle offense, they: 1) tend to run a more balanced offense of run vs pass 2) gain more yards per rush 3) gain more yards per pass 4) have given up no sacks.Given that, what possible reason could you see that the Falcons haven’t gone to the no-huddle more, if not permanently?

Pat Yasinskas (1:14 PM)
I’ve been saying for a couple years that Falcons should go no-huddle all the time. Either that or take the batteries out of Mularkey’s headset.

MtnJim-No Huddle might be the path to victory…The Packer D coord Capers subs more players than most teams…if you can keep our D on there back feet, make them tired, and guessing…might be just what the Dr. ordered….on the other side of the coin, Packers D plays the Nickle about 70% of the time, and still held Forte of the bears to 4 yrd…he had over 200 all purpose yrd the next game…if our corner Williams is healthy expect Woodson to play up by the line more often…otherwise, that “hole” cld be exploited…Williams not the same with shoulder injury…can’t press…

4 more fines issued to players today for trying to get to the quarterbacks……yeah, just as I thought they are trying to fix it where the Quarterbacks just sit back there throwing passes all day with no worries about the other Teams defensive lines……its turning into the Pansie League for sure ! They need to fire the NFL commissioner for trying to change a mans game to a teenie pooper league !

Without Babineaux, and Abraham little Aaron should have a field day. I don’t see anyway we can stop the Green bay offense. We still have a good shot at this thing if we can match them score for score. It’s a tall order though Matt’s been used and abused while Rogers has yet to get his pretty little uniform soiled.
Just a thought, start Owens at nickleback, let him blitz every play. It’s not like he was going to cover anybody anyway.

Malarkey,

If you need 6 yards on 3rd down put in a pass route for 7 more yards; need 9 yards, put in a play for 10 or more yards; etc…

I see any more of thee wussie-ass pass plays on third down where the ball is delivered behind the line of scrimmage, at the line of scrimmage, or just 3-4 yard beyond the line on third and longs I’m going to need to take up a collection here to replace the TV I am destined to throw a brick throw tomorrow night!

Open up the throttle for once you big ole Girly man and let Ryan either win or go down fighting to the last second!

Cant count on the defense in this one. This offense needs to put together 4 quarters of outstanding football . This green bay team is 4-0 for a reason . Gotta leave it all out there tomorow and see how we stack up.
