Not only are the birds and their porous defense going to get smoked on national tv, we’re all going to have to listen to Crissy Collinsworth and his shrill voice and vacant commentary while it happens.

Not going to be a good weekend.

Man I hope we don’t get look like we did in the playoffs las year against these guys. I got a feeling we will finally see the Birds put together a complete game. This is the one that they thought about all off season and now is the chance for redemption.

Thanks

Ryan showed a willingness to tuck the ball and run last week where he didn’t the previous weeks. Gotta do that once in a while-Rodgers certainly does.

Your right clark kent – I had forgotten about how bad Collinsworth was in that Philly game until you brought it up.

However, if our DC and OC coach like they has been, I hope Collinsworth lets them have it while Blank listens.

Its gonna take a bit more than Ryan just tucking the ball and picking up a few yards here and there, He’s gotta hit those open receivers and not overthrow them, the Packers aren’t gonna give us many chances and we have to take advantage of the few we get.

Yes I hope Ryan works on and improves his downfield accuracy this week. If he can hit those, and Roddy catches his, And Edwards finds his Sack, then maybe we have a chance in this one.

Falcons beating my Packers? Unlikely. The Falcons must do the following if they hope to win:

Establish the run and don’t abandon it. (Packers do have the #1 rushing D so might be tough). Matt Ryan must study as butt off because it is up to him to beat the Packers D. Dom Capers will be giving him all kinds of looks and if Matty makes a mistake, Tramon may be taking it to the house again.

Containing Aaron Rodgers. The Falcons have to have great game preperation, film study, and must be dicipline! You absolutely cannot blitz Rodgers or he will tear you apart. Rodgers goes through all of his reads before the snap. The best way to contain Rodgers is to have a really good 4 man rush and the secondary must be sharp and not abandon their zones.

Lastely TIME OF POSSESION. The Falcons must win the time of possesion battle. If the Falcons do all of this, they might have a chance against my Packers. In conclusion, I just simply don’t think Matty vs Packers secondary all game will work. Also the Packers have Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Donald Driver, James Jones, Randall Cobb, and Jermichael Finley. I just can’t see the Falcons secondary containing ALL of them.

Good luck Falcons fans, you’ll need it.

Do I think the Falcons will beat the Packers? Not Really. But any team in this league can beat any other team. The Packers will lose 2 or 3 games this year and it can easily be this week. The Falcons are trying to beat the Packers, not Rodgers. He will certainly come in prepared, but if his line isn’t in sync or the receivers are taken out of the game, the offense doesn’t score. Right now the Packers secondary is porous and there is nothing Aaron can do to improve that.

I’m hoping for a dominating & crushing Packers victory but will settle for a great game and them eking out their 5th win of the season.

Go Pack! Good Luck Falcon Fans.

I’ve been a fan for a long time. our issue is what it has always been and thats the defense. we havent had really good safety play since Brian Jordan and Scott Case(remember?). the super bowl year the defense was pretty decent, but other than that we have never been able to generate a pass rush with just 4. we had chuck smith, John Abraham, and travis Hall all at different times. when we blitz we stink at it and have for years. why do we not draft big bodied defensive linemen and why do our DB picks always stink? WE NEED DEFENSE!!! Whether that means new coach and players, i dont know, but we will only get so far which is not that far in the passing league called the NFL.

Wisconsin Native- Well said. If we can get a 4 man rush, that will obviously be huge. Having said that, I do think the Falcons can have success blitzing against Rodgers, they just need to tackle him when they get there. If he dodges the rush, escapes the pocket and extends the play, it’s not going to be good for us. I think we will play this team tough and have a chance to win this. Our O-line will need to play its best game of the year Sunday.

Old Falcon fans know we’ll get murdered (again) on national TV.

Ahem. I stole this from myself from another place:

How does ATL slow down Aaron Rodgers? Keep the ball out of his hand. Go back and look at the stats from the November game last year. Ryan was something like 23-26 for 177 yards. Dink them to death and run the ball. ATL had 2 TD drives that totaled right at 15 minutes. That is an entire quarter that Rodgers did not have the ball. And just maybe GB will disregard Harry Douglas, the invisible receiver. I hope so. I just have a feeling that 83 is going to be an important part of this game.

You can’t stop him because their pass patterns are quick timing patterns, they have down to perfection, they like to throw slants and hit the seams and get their receivers off and running. Rodgers doesn’t wait to see who comes open, he knows where his guys will be and they know when to expect the ball. Even if the defender has good coverage he will just lay it in their where only the receiver has a chance. I would look at the teams that gave Greenbay trouble(not many) and see how they defended them.

Scott Case, the last I remember of him was riding a massive truck that came out of the backfield against the Saints.

Brian Urlacher and Lovie Smith know Rodgers best. Falcons should give them a call. Lovie Smith always has Urlacher just watch Rodgers’ eyes the entire game which works…sometimes. Rodgers is just so smart and understands that defences are looking at his eyes, so he looks off the linebackers and safeties, then quickly throws where they would normally be. Regardless, the Bears do the best against the Packers offence, Falcons should look at that tape.

A lot easier to talk than write.
The Falcons can beat the Packers, the Packers can beat the Falcons, I would say that the Pack has the better chance, but anything can happen.

It would be wonderful if Collingsworth would lose his voice, and could not be able to call this game. I absolutely hate his work as a commentator.

I dislike Collinsworth too, but one that I really can’t stand, is Phill Sims. He’s the reason why I had the Packers v Broncos game on mute with radio commentary.

Same ol, same ol, Smitty will insist on playing a soft zone – very little blitzing – then Rogers will systematically dismantle the defense. After the Falcons lose, he will bemoan the fact that the players just didn’t quite perform up to snuff but they’ll try again next week – in other words – the definition of failure – trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Come on folks after three years he’s not going to change. The talent is good enough but the players can’t play up to their potential with their hands tied.

Pack looks even better than last year. Yikes! Let’s hope Matt Ice and crew are ready to hang on to the ball and not give the GB offence any free shots at the end zone.

Pass defense? What pass defense? Do these Falcons even know
if there is such a thing?
Green Bay will score and score and score and score some more.
They can’t stop the Falcons. They will probably score two or three times. So, don’t
expect a shutout.

As a season ticket holder I believe in what I pay for! I think we will be ok. We stopped Aaron Rodgers in the regular season last year, so there is a formula. We just went away from what we did in that game when we played them in the playoffs. Coach Smith even admitted that they were thinking too much and trying to do too many different things. Instead of doing what worked the first game.

Three ways to do it, in order of easiest to hardest: concuss him and knock him out of the game (like the Falcons did in Week 2), dominate time of possession and keep the ball out of his hands, or get good pressure on him with the front four without blitzing.

Put on the pressure, hit him often and hit him hard. He must be sacked at least 4-6 times and hit 10-15 times. Enough of this laid back bend but don’t break defense. Bend and don’t break defense for the falcons meams touchdowns for the other team.

Were going to have to do something we have not done all year and during last year’s playoff game and that is put the pressure on Rodgers. If he gets as much time as we gave the Seattle QB they will get their 40+ points for sure.

Honestly the way to stop Rodgers is to bring him to the ground when you get to him…8 times in the playoffs defenders had him and he escaped. However rush three and drop 8, 20 yards behind the line, giving a receiver a soft spot and letting other receivers put a hat on a hat….well we have seen how that has worked versus Cutler and Jackson. Could have been worse had Vicks oline actually protected him, and Freeman had not have been off,and when he did hit his receivers they were dropping passes. I have not seen much that BVG has thrown at the opposing QB’s to stop them.

I disagree somewhat with the majority opinion. I think it is vital to limit the snaps of the Packers but I don’t think we will be able to run early against that stout rush defense. I think we should go no huddle with Quizz at RB and throw the short to intermediate routes taking the occasional shot just to keep them honest. If we’ve executed well enough to still be in the game we should give them a heavy dose of a fresh Michael Turner in the 4th quarter when that d-line is tired. On defense we have to get a little pressure with the front four – no sacks in three games – almost impossible. How did we win two of them?
