Atlanta's Jason Snelling (44) fumbles while being hit by Seattle's Will Herring last season. The Falcons kept possession on the play. AP

The Falcons (1-2) could be without versatile running back Jason Snelling when they face the Seattle Seahawks (1-2) at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

Snelling is in the NFL’s concussion protocol, Falcons coach Mike Smith said during his weekly segment Tuesday on NFL Sirius radio.

Snelling suffered what was announced as a “head” injury during Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay and did not return to action.

Snelling backs up fullback Ovie Mughelli and running back Michael Turner. He also plays on most of the special team units.

Snelling was the teams’ third leading receiver last season. But he has just two carries for 10 yards and eight catches for 43 yards this season as he’s splitting the backup running back spot with rookie Jacquizz Rodgers.

Snelling will have to clear the league’s protocol to return to practice.

Also, Smith said that linebacker Stephen Nicholas, who didn’t play against Tampa Bay, suffered a calf strain in practice last Friday.

Cornerback Kelvin Hayden (hamstring) and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (knee) were also inactive against the Bucs.

The team will release its official injury report that’s mandated by league rules on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Last Year at this point we were 2-1. We are a whole game behind schedule. All of you lighten up and take a chill pill. Do we have some issues sure. Here’s some advice to all of you. Get of the frigging BUS and me and maybe two other falcon fans will drive us the rest of the season. We’ll win 10 games for sure maybe more.

Unlike some, I’m not yet ready to give up on the Falcons. I know that the tasks in front of them are daunting but that may be what is needed to get some respect in the NFL. Win the games and see where they are at the break or mid-season.

I reserve my thoughts for later, other than ” The season is not yet over.

Did the loss of Dahl cause the complete collapse of the OL? It’s hard to believe that changing just one guy could cause this problem, as the entire OL is not performing. Even Roddy White has got the blahs, doesn’t seem to have his head in the game. I saw it last year with the Tampa game, that they are getting these Big guys instead of these athletic little guys. Compare Blount’s running to Turner’s. I think I saw the price Tampa paid for Boucher at 16M, are we paying him in that range, your’e kidding?

Snelling will be gone after this season anyway. We don’t know how to use him. What is up with these “calf” and “hamstring” injuries — bad conditioning? I do sense a good 2/3 roll before the bye week. We should dominate Seattle and Indy looks brutal. Yes Green Bay is tough but we seem to rise to the occasion vs. tough teams, especially at home …
