Today’s Punt-off: Koenen vs. Bosher

Former Falcons punter Michael Koenen is averaging 49.3 yards per punt with Tampa Bay, which ranks seventh in the league. He also has five touchbacks.

Falcons rookie punter Matt Bosher is averaging 36.8 yards per punt, which ranks 32nd in the league. He has two touchbacks.

HERE’S THE ON THE HOT SEAT ITEM that ran in today’s print editions:  Falcons punter Matt Bosher is on the hot seat.

Former Falcons punter and kickoff specialist Michael Koenen hit the jackpot in free agency and signed a six-year, $19.5 million contract with the Buccaneers. Bosher, who was selected in the sixth round of the draft out of Miami to replace Koenen, has been inconsistent.

Last week against the Eagles, he averaged 34.7 yards on seven punts. He had an 18-yard punt while trying to boom one out of the end zone. He also had a nice 49-yard punt and a solid 39-yarder against the Eagles.

The coaching staff is looking for Bosher to smooth things out as he adjusts to the NFL.

“He just needs to realize when you’re in a backed-up situation, don’t try to save the day,” Falcons special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong said. “You don’t need to come out of that situation with a 60-yard punt. You don’t need to try to be perfect. What you need to do is get your foot on the ball, get some hang time, get it down the field and guys will go cover it.”

In this Falcon Matt vs. former Falcon Michael, unlike last week, I wish the Falcons still had Michael.

Falcons 30 Bucs 26…the Bucs are a good team, and our defense is very vulnerable. We don’t have a dominant defense yet and that scares me. Our offense will play well enough, a few big runs from Turner, another solid day from Ryan, etc. We’ll win, but barely.

Oh and I wish Koenen was still here

Matt Dodge is sitting at home, sounds like the Falcons need to make a phone call.

I dont know what TD saw in Bosher. There had to be a million better punters to go with this year if you couldn’t sign MK. Bosher stands for BS.

Falcons fail to contain Freeman, Ryan only 13-12 on the road, Bosher vs Koenen. Too much TB, down go Falcons. Sorry.

Radar shows that it is storming hard @ the stadium right now. Could end up being a wild one today.

The first quarter isn’t over yet and I’m already tired of watching the Falcons! They supposidly have all these weapons on offense but continue to try and run Michael Turner outside, not. The offensive line and the entire defense is suspect so me and all the rest of the Falcon fans are in for a long disappointing season. They do everything the same so it makes them too predictable!

Bosher is terrible! His leg is weak on KO and punts! Need to bring a few kickers into Flowery Branch this week!

FALCONS SCREWED UP ON CHANGING PUNTERS. THEY FELL IN LOVE WITH HANG TIME AND DISTANCE . BUT FOR A COUPLE OF EXHIBITION GAMES WITH NO PRESSURE AND NOTHING AT STAKE. NEVERMIND KICKING FROM THE END ZONE WITH SERIOUS PRESSURE, OR DROPPING THE BALL INSIDE THE TEN FROM THE 45, OR PUTTING IT OB AT THE FIVE. THOSE ARE THE THINGS KOENON WON’T DO FOR US ANYMORE. IT WAS A STUPID CHANGE. HANG THIS ONE ON YOUR GENERAL MANAGER.
