FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons running back Michael Turner is a finalist for the FedEx Ground NFL player of the week.

Fans can vote for the winner through Friday at 3 p.m. CLICK HERE! The winner will be announced on the NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com.

Turner, who ran for 114 yards and had a huge 61-yard fourth-quarter scamper, is up against Tampa Bay’s LeGarrette Blount and Buffalo’s Fred Jackson.

Blount had 13 carries for 71 yards and two touchdowns in the Bucs’ 24-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

Jackson had two touchdowns and 117 yards on just 15 carries to help the Bills defeat the Oakland Raiders, 38-35.

FedEx will support education efforts at Junior Achievement by making weekly $2,000 donations in the winning players’ names. The funding, allocated to local Junior Achievement area offices in that team’s city or state, is used to educate the next generation of entrepreneurs on how to start and grow their own small businesses.

Would like to see Turner lower his shoulders and run over somebody more often. Love the Burner though 100 yards plus both games not bad.

The offense was working on that “one run” throughout the game. That “one run” was the culmination of multiple plays where the coaches were able to show the blockers what they needed to do to free Turner for that big run. Matt Ryan recognized the coverage and saw that it was ideal for the play.
The offense executed it perfectly and resulted in Turner getting those 61 yards on that play. However it was only able to happen because of the small gain plays that preceeded it.
So to say that if you took away that play would require that you take away all the plays that led up to it too.
I don’t think you are a “knumbskull” but I thought you might not realize what all that one play consisted of.

He is a Tough guy to try to be tackling and trying to bring down in the 4th Quarter of a Football Game . Would you want to be trying to tackle that guy ? lol

so you’re telling me they had planned all game long to have gonzalez to hold his man, which he did, and white to hold his man, which he did, and hoped that 2 philly defenders would bump each other out of the play for this ‘one run’ to occur?….if you don’t believe the holds, watch the replay…and you’re right, small gains before that one because philly played a tough game…

Doesnt matter if you take that one run away, the fact is he made a 61 yard run. Thats is in the stat book, you cant take it away he got it. Coach smith said in a interview that they tried all game for the play but the just couldnt get it, intell matt did a check down and called a perfect play.

Butterball is no joke! lol

Hey have u guys been paying attention to Mr Newton..

432 yards thru the air against GB? He should of had 500 but his receivers drop 5 catches! HUGH?…

He’s up against Jacksonville this Sunday.. He may go for 540? Is he really that good?
Fox needs to get him on a Nationally televised game.. One NFL observer said this guy is a superstar and he’s never seen anything like him…Wow…

No, you’re right, “just sayin’.” We should go back through all the film in the history of the NFL and retroactively remove any yardage gained by uncalled holding penalties. Hell, why even look for holding? Let’s just take long runs people make and get rid of them from the stats since they skew the numbers.

For what it’s worth, since joining the Falcons, Turner has rushed for the 3rd most yards and the 2nd most touchdowns in the NFL. But, you’re right, though. That one moment of success must have been some kinda fluke. It’s not like he broke a long one against Chicago, right? Oh, wait.

atl fan: you still don’t think he’s an douche? never try to talk sense with someone who doesnt’ have any. maybe i should take my own advice.

turner has looked much more fresh than last season. he has a little more burst but less top end speed. a nice suprise. he’s not impressive on grass however so expecting a subpar game in tampa bay.

Turner run like he has mud in his shoes. The average back in the NFL would have scored on the play were Turner picked up 61 yards. Turner had a 15 yard lead and was run down! It’s not just power, but power and speed!

All I know is that Tampa better not let us get up 17-0 on them like Minnesota did. We won’t let up. If we get any kind of lead, they’ll have to deal with Turner.

That little Guy, Rodgers, is so small I think hes hard to grab a hold of. They slowly working him in there to give em that NFL experience.

As a defensive back you really don’t want to see Turner come through that hole. You really don’t. No safety or corner is going to admit it, but they have to be hoping in the back of their mind that the D-line and LBs can bring him down. Seeing him burst through the front 7 has to be dreaded.

Its like David and Goliath, by the time the Goliaths try to grad a hold of Rogers , hes done gain 5 or 7 yards on em becasue of his size and quick speed .

Great work from Turner, would still like to see him hit the line hard instead that stutter-step he does from time to time. What’s the old saying, “He who hesitates is usually tackled behind the line of scrimmage.”

just sayin…that play happened because of an over aggressive defense that was blasting up the field…its the running games equivilant of the screen pass intended to slow down defenses…that’s why it is called a “trap”.

and are you really talking about the Falcons defense? didn’t your dream team defense just get 35 dropped on em?

If Atlanta ’s Offense steps it up into High Gear as anticipated, alot of the other Teams only way to deal with it is use one out of the Giants Playbook the other night, and just fall down and fake a injury to slow down the tempo or pace, ha ! ha !
I couldn’t believe that til I actually saw tape of it !

Take that one run from a lot of running backs and what’s their average! Turner may get hit behind the line but who doesn’t. That man has been running his butt off in these first two games and deserves his props. And I’m giving it to him.

I just wish they wouldn,t give the ball to MT on just about every first down….The Falcons saw to many 2nd and 10, 2nd and 9, 2nd 8 plays, that puts the offense in the hole too often..
