FLOWERY BRANCH  – Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was limited in practice today with a knee injury, according to head coach Mike Smith.

“We rested him today and we are hoping that he’ll be out here tomorrow,” Smith said. “We have to see how  . . . hopefully he’ll have more participation tomorrow than he had today.”

Backups Chris Redman and John Parker Wilson took the majority of the snaps in practice. Smith doesn’t believe that Ryan is in danger of missing Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay.

“He took some shots in the game and we gave him some rest today,” Smith said.

Ryan (knee), wide receiver Roddy White (thigh), defensive end Ray Edwards (foot) and Todd McClure (knee) were all limited in practice.

The offensive line has been taking some heat for giving up nine sacks and 17 hits on Ryan in two games. They could receive a boost with the return of McClure.

”It will be great to get Todd back,” Smith said. “He started [144] consecutive games. that’s quite a streak. We obviously missed his leadership out there over the course of two ball games. . . It was good to have him out there. I can assure you of that.”

Safety Shann Schillinger (knee) and defensive tackle Corey Peters (back) fully participated in practice.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux(knee) and cornerback Kelvin Hayden (hamstring) did not participate in practice.

Yes, he’s one tough Irishman, but he still needs to be protected. Come on, O-line, do your job so he can do his!

After the beatings his offensive line has allowed him to take so far it’s a wonder Matt Ryan is even able to still stand. That cannot continue if the Falcons hope to have him around come the end of the season.

What, do you think Matt Ryan is Tom Brady or something? You are allowed to clothesline Matt in the back of the head on the sideline (Chicago game) you are allowed to helmet to helmet Matt, you are allowed to pull him down well after the pass is thrown, heck, your even allowed to kick him in the head and back with both of your feet (during the Eagles game).
The only way the league protects Matt Ryan is if we can find him a way to wear a Brady jersey.

Good Day Matt Ryan,

When time permits, please have a word with the Offensive Line about their inability to protect you on 3rd down. We have major issues with #72 Baker, #61 Hawley and #75 Reynolds all of whom have placed our season in jeopardy with their individual play or lack thereof over the first two games.

P.S., I have been informed by the league that it is against NFL policy for Sam Baker #72 to wear roller skates in lieu of cleats during the game. Please convince Sam Baker to remove the roller skates for better traction during the game.

Duanta might have made an ugly/dirty (BUT LEGAL) hit on the Eagles receiver, but the Eagles just play dirty and ugly all the way around and it is preached to them by Andy Reid!!!!! Reid is like the Michael Moore of football. He wants things HIS way or he whines like little bitch!!!

Who else out there in Falcons land thought it was a COMPLETE BS call on Abraham for roughing the passer when he barely even hit him and then was trying to hold him up? THAT play cost us 15 yards and an eventual TD. We got screwed on that call too.

Hey Eagles, it takes a lot more than a bunch of over paid FA to make it in the NFL. The Falcons learned that back in 2006. The only one remaining that DID anything is Abraham and he is a class act and a beast/predator on the field.

I could have sworn that Jerry Markbreit was back as lead referee. Obvious bias against Falcons. Looks like we will just have to beat the best teams and the refs this year.

Wilson is on the practice squad.

Refs are letting defensive players hurt Matt Ryan.

What are we gonna do about LT……….Sam Baker looked horrible. Future teams will bull rush him on a consistent basis after watching the Philly game.

Wednesday injury reports mean very little. They’re items put out there to get fans (maybe like yourself) to overreact. Tom Brady is on the injury report every week and he barely gets a lint ball on his uniform. Seeing Ice, Roddy, etc. on the report could just be a distraction for the Bucs. If they’re on it on Friday then I would possibly worry.

Matt Ryan is tough and will be fine more than likely but the offensive line so far is a huge disappointment, Sam Baker’s side especially, seems to be the most vulnerable. I think the Falcons need to establish the run with Turner this week against Tampa and take some of the pressure off of Ryan since he is banged up.

Matt will be battling Jay Cutler this year. They way the oline has been manhandled these last 2 games. He will not make it to game 8.
