FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux is out three to five weeks with a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, according to his representative.

The injury will not immediately require surgery, but he may want to have one after the season.

“It’s a partial MCL tear and we are looking at three to five weeks,” said Jack Bechta, Babineaux’s agent. “The MCL, all the guys that I’ve ever had have come back. If there is any issue with uncomfortableness they go in and get it cleaned up after the season.”

Babineaux was listed on the injury report before the Chicago game with a knee and shoulder injury. He left the game against Chicago to get his ankle examined and had it re-taped.

He returned to the game against the Bears.

The Falcons are hoping that defensive tackle Corey Peters, who missed the opener with a knee injury, can return this week. He’s been out for four weeks.

Babineaux, a second-round draft pick in 2005, has been a pillar on the defensive line since starting six games as a rookie.

In six seasons, Babineaux has 254 tackles, 18 sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.

I agree that we need to be the football team that won us 13 games last season which was pounding defenses into submission, eating up tons of clock, and by doing that we put the opposing offense under pressure by giving them less opportunities to put up points. We grind it out with Turner and let Ryan manage. We need to stop trying to be Green Bay and New Orleans because we are not a passing team. We run the football and we need to keep doing it.

The Eagles will be tough, no doubt, but they’re not unbeatable. They looked shaky in the preseason and in week one against the Rams. The Rams lost Steven Jackson, had an injury to their QB and one of their best WRs, which didn’t help their cause. But the Eagles QB, despite saying he played “lights out”, was erratic, as he was in the preseason. If the Falcons can bring pressure I can see him throwing a couple of picks in this game. The loss of Babs will hurt us in that regard but if Jerry and Peters are ready to go, I’ll feel a lot better. But we need more depth at DT now for sure. Those guys are used to being rotated and could get gassed on long drives without players who can come in to rest them. Trey Lewis knows the system and is available as far as I know. I expect to see him back soon.

McClure is the glue that holds the offensive line together. If Ovie can’t play Turner could get stuffed at the line. So much for the ground game against Philly.
Hey, that leaves our vaunted downfield passing game. If anyone doesn’t think the Eagles didn’t watch the film on Chicago you’re nuts. If McClure and Ovie aren’t in there the Eagles are going to just tee off and dare Ryan to beat them with his patented Mularky play-action four yard toss over the line of scrimmage. Yeah, right.

The Falcons are sadly to say-in big trouble. No one on this team has been vocal about the pink elephant in the room. What is the pink elephant? Losing games. Don’t give me that crap about the preseason means nothing. Why do we tie our shoes daily? It must mean something. Jonathan Vilma’s attitude was that he did not like losing “any” game, preseason or not. Winning must be an attitude of all the players. I better see body language that displays this on Sunday or the dome field advantage fans will become boo-birds. As for Tony Gonzalez-don’t criticize or chastise the fans for expecting more than what the Falcons are giving. Unfortunately, the Falcons hired you because of what you did in the past; not what you doing now. Please consider retirement and let’s get a young fast fiery TE to complement the young offensive players. Finally, don’t use the lock-out as an excuse. All NFL teams were locked out. Eagles 30 Falcons 3. 0-2 start.

You guys are all experts “old qb”, etc. I like the comments of Dominic Hughes. You’ve got to line it up and play the game. I’ll bet you dollars to doughnuts that our guys are tougher than their guys.

The Eagles play street ball and they’re about to get a punch in the mouth. My guess is that the Falcons organization is tired of losing to the Eagles and we are going to make a statement on Sunday.

Get the golf carts ready, cause some of them Eagles are gonna leave on ‘em. Go Falcons!

The Falcons need to come up with a game plan that churns out 4 12-plus minute drives each game, all culminating in TDs, then successfully go for 2 after each. They might be able to squeak out some 32-31 thrillers.

Forget the Gritz Blitz. That D stinks so bad it needs to have “Polecats,” “Skunkz,” or “Casey Anthony’s Trunk” in the nickname.

Ken K said the following:

That a bad loss. esp because our DBs are bad esp Dunta Robinson. Dunta has the World record for slipping/falling down during a game. Another mistake by TD. Also OT Baker played bad. If he is not a first round pick he would not even be on the team.. TD needs to admit he made a mistake by drafting Baker and signing slip down artist Dunta.cut these deadbeats and move on
________________________________________________________________________

Ken K, I cannot believe you are not an NFL GM since your ability to evaluate NFL-caliber talent is so great. OK, play TD for a second. How much of a salary cap hit will the Falcons take if they cut both Robinson and Baker, how much room with that leave you to sign their replacements, and how many starting left tackles and left cornerbacks are sitting out there just waiting for the phone to ring, you tool? All the negative Nancies want to cut half the team but have no idea how to fill the gaps. I wish YOUR boss would call you into his office and cut YOU because some schmoe off the street THINKS you can’t do your job well, even though they’ve never DONE your job and CAN’T do your job. Sit back in your recliner with your Cheetos and watch the games, don’t play armchair GM.
