FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux is out three to five weeks with a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, according to his representative.

The injury will not immediately require surgery, but he may want to have one after the season.

“It’s a partial MCL tear and we are looking at three to five weeks,” said Jack Bechta, Babineaux’s agent. “The MCL, all the guys that I’ve ever had have come back. If there is any issue with uncomfortableness they go in and get it cleaned up after the season.”

Babineaux was listed on the injury report before the Chicago game with a knee and shoulder injury. He left the game against Chicago to get his ankle examined and had it re-taped.

He returned to the game against the Bears.

The Falcons are hoping that defensive tackle Corey Peters, who missed the opener with a knee injury, can return this week. He’s been out for four weeks.

Babineaux, a second-round draft pick in 2005, has been a pillar on the defensive line since starting six games as a rookie.

In six seasons, Babineaux has 254 tackles, 18 sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.

We need Peters healty. Jerry and Walker are looking good. I could see Edwards playing some DT on passing downs.

It’s our linebackers who better be healthy and ready. Vick jets past defensive lines in a split second.

Well, ok. It’s just not our year. Still a huge Falcons fan, still pulling for them, but Peters, McClure, Ovie out ok. It’s just not our year.

This is not a slight on Vance Walker who can play, but Babs is one of the few difference makers worth his salt on the defense.

No worry, other teams also have injuries so other players will have to step up. You cannot fire the OC or DC because of injuries, they will make adjustments and the Falcons will make it through the year.

Babs is by far the best interior lineman that we have…we were very lucky last year with a almost healthy season…now things start to seems more complicated….we presented many lacks during game against chicago ..coaching,ol, pass defense, qb ….injuries are a part of the game , but only a few great teams can achieve being deep. hope some magic can appears…

You know, it was awful to loose like Sunday in Chicago, but I’m not real concerned. All teams have a clunker of a game now and again, and sometimes they string a couple together. It’s natural. Heck, the falcons beat the super bowl champs in the regular season on a less than right now Green Bay game.

Bottom line is the Falcons are a good team with a helluva schedule. Heck even the Patriots don’t win them all. Not even the Steelers, who just got jacked.

The sky is not falling and all will be well. The Birds will probably go 10-6, maybe 11-5 with this tough schedule and be better for it.

Come on Dirty Birds!

That a bad loss. esp because our DBs are bad esp Dunta Robinson. Dunta has the World record for slipping/falling down during a game. Another mistake by TD. Also OT Baker played bad. If he is not a first round pick he would not even be on the team.. TD needs to admit he made a mistake by drafting Baker and signing slip down artist Dunta.cut these deadbeats and move on

We have plenty of tackles, including a former 1st rounder…our issues are behind these guys with opponent’s receivers running around wide azz open.

We desperately need an NFL qualified Defensive Coordinator!

True whether management wants to admit it–Dunta is the defensive version of Ryan Leaf. Watch how quickly opponents start picking on him and leaving Grimes alone.
Babineax is our best interior defensive lineman–period.
Ovie will surely be missed. Is Lucas Cox on the practice squad?
Ryan better figure out how to throw something other than the dink and dunk or it’s going to be a very long losing season.
And somebody please give DeCoup a peach basket–Grimes did everything, but hand him the interceptions.
I wonder how many extra laps Smitty will make Weatherspoon do this week?

I think Babs is under-rated and I hate to hear he is hurt.

Vance Walker has looked REALLY good (late last year, through the preseason and I noticed he bull rushed the Chicago OL a few times………….I think he will end up being the best replacement for Babs (until Babs can return).

I sincerely want Jerry to develop into a dominate force; however, he has not shown very much on the football field thus far (please please please do not be another BUST from a lower teir SEC team – - – - I an referring to Jerry, Houston & Anderson)

Dunta has the skill set. I’ve been telling falcon fans the longest, WE’RE PLAYING DUNTA WRONG!!!! Dunta can’t play off coverage. He has to play bump and run. Problem is Grimes thrives in off coverage and makes his INTs but gets ate up in bump and run, DUNTAS SPECIALTY. As long as we keep playing dunta off coverage more, Dunta will keep slippin and sliding. I like Dunta, he can get it done but his skill set doesn’t fit the system BVG has right now. They need to let him “loose” and let him roam and play his game.

Matt Riyan is the biggest joke in the NFL. So this team is not going anywhere this year! We went & got a deep threat for a guy who can’t throw the deep ball at all. Turner can run but can’t break away from anybody.Vangorder’s defense is an absolute joke we cannot scheme very well against anyone!!!!! Good luck dumb Birds!!!

When are excuses enough to satisfy fans about the level of play of the team ? The grass, the short preseason, the first game of the season, the lost of Mcclure, the addition of Reynolds o the OL, etc. Here are some more important questions. Can we fix these problems in one week ? Is it realistic to think that Mike Smith and co can fix it in one week ? With each team in the NFC south all having tough schedules. Can the Falcons come out on top with each team attacking these schedules? Adding injuries to this equation should we as fans start throttling back our expectations ? Finally do you think Mike Smith and co. can come up with the fix for the season ?

So Dunta can’t play off coverage? Maybe we should just use him against teams that employ the single wing–Hey, that’s Georgia Tech. For the kind of money he’s getting he needs to figure out how to stay on his feet–he can figure out how to cover later.
How bout that kicking game? The Bosher has a great day averaging 38 yards a punt and can’t get a kickoff into the endzone with the wind–great draft pick. He’ll be gone by game four.
The big exhale you hear is Bierman. Edwards might want to get a comfortable pad for the future games on the bench.
If it weren’t for Abraham, Turner, Biermann, and Grimes they might have called this game in the third quarter under the mercy rule.

Robinson just pisses me off with the way he plays. Literally pisses me off. That is all.

The loss of Babs hurts, but it’s definitely not as bad as it looks. We have Jerry who played well against Chicago and hopefully Peters can make it back but if not, I have confidence that Walker and Jerry can get the job done. It just hurts because Babs is our best pass rushing DT.

But in the history of the NFL, there have been players that have rose to glory because the player in front of them got injured. Look at Tom Brady. Drew Bledsoe got injured, and he came in. Never looked back. Look at William Moore. Erik Coleman got injured, and Moore stepped in and has played really well.

Losing Babs hurts, but that just means somebody has to step up, and who knows? We may witness something greater.

Grimes easily is the best player we have in the secondary. No doubt about it. Robinson pisses me off. William Moore is a solid player who can make plays, DeCoud acts like he’s scared to make a play. I hope we can step it up back there.

last year this team barely won against an extremely easy schedule. depth was something that has always been a concern of mine. while the falcon starters can compete (except in chicago) they just don’t have the depth necessary to make a playoff run if several key starters go down. but hey its’ all good we drafted akeem dent in the 4th round and we traded all those precious picks away for julio – but he can block real well though so i should just shut up.

ok no more crapping on my team. in all honesty i think the falcons have a great shot to win on sunday night. atl will come in under the radar and we all know how formidable this team is at home (except the last one) .. stop all this nonsense of “explosive” plays on offense. the falcons won all those games by pounding the rock and winning time of possession. keep the d fresh for the 4th quarter. bend but don’t break. philly has a weak linebacking corp. run straight at and through them. if the falcons to go back to what they do well then they will win. try to be green bay 2.0 and we’ll get spanked just like last week.

honest_abe

falcons win this game if they go back to what they do well. control the clock, pound the rock and stop the run. this entire offseason has been about “explosive” this and “explosive” that. face it matt ryan ain’t rodgers and this falcons team ain’t the packers 2.0. we’re the falcons a team that can beat anyone at home if we play the brand of football that has won us so many games over the last couple of years. back to basics fellas and we’ll be alright.
