FLOWERY BRANCH – There are no major surprises in the new “unofficial” depth chart released by the team on Tuesday for the season-opener against the Chicago Bears at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Soldier Field.
Recently signed cornerback Kelvin Hayden is listed third at right cornerback behind Dunta Robinson and Christopher Owens. Safety James Sanders is listed No. 2 behind William Moore at strong safety.
Center Todd McClure is listed No. 1 at center, but he’s been declared out of Sunday’s game after undergoing knee surgery on Aug. 29. Joe Hawley will start in his place and will be backed up Rob Bruggeman. Also, left guard Justin Blalock could play center in an emergency.
Here’s the depth chart:

i just hope A) Hayden and the rest of the guys stay healthy throughout the season, and B) Hayden and sanders aren’t reaches to fill an already fragile position in our secondary. So far Dimitroff and Smitty have been dead on so i have no reason to doubt em. If somebody cant cut it, theyre out no matter how likeable they are in the locker room ie: Coy Wire so i’d like to think theyre not bringin in scrubs. If we stay healthy tho, i like ow the roster looks. Cant wait to see how we match up against those Bears.

And so ends the longest consecutive games streak in Falcons history. Todd McClure deserves to be inducted into the Ring of Honor after he retires.

Eric, imo, a Falcon fan doesn’t ever want a NO win, unless it might have a positive playoff implication for the Falcons.

I wouldn’t root for NO even if if had a positive impact on the Falcons or their playoff implications. Winning ain’t everything.

Schillinger is the leading tackler on ST’s and he’s a much better FS than people realize. His injury last year derailed the chance for people to see what he can do, but he’s a ballhawk, very instinctual, knows where to be, and has no problem laying the lumber. This is only his second year, give him a chance and you’ll see.
That said, we can only dress 46 (since no more 3rd QB), so who are the 7 to sit? My guess is Matthews, Wall, Powell, Sidbury, Smith, Dent, and then of course McClure.

Why would a Falcon fan want a team that they are competing against in their own division to win when it is unknown that it would benefit the Falcon playoff chances?

We just talked to defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder. He would not name the nickel back. Said we’d have to ask Coach Smith tomorrow. However, he said that he was “confident” that Kelvin Hayden could be ready to play by Sunday.

It doesn’t matter who is listed as the starter at DT. They are all rotated during the game. Look for PJ to get most of the 3rd down snaps. Also, I think Hayden will start the season at nickel with Franks as the primary back up if one of our #1sissues goes down.

Rafael Bush was “set up” to be a practice squad guy. Preseason Bush was learning and playing the CB position as well as the SS position. “C’mon man” CB and safety, why not both safety positions. The experiment hindered his development at safety and landed him once again on the practice squad and not Shane whats his name.

Owens does suck, but he played better last game after he pulled his socks down! lol…..
We better hope they don’t have to put him on the field. All he does is chase people once they catch the ball over him, or watch them going into the end-zone after he has blown his coverage assignment. He is not ready for Sundays, TD and Smitty….. Come on, cut him and pick up a good QB!!!
Go Birds!!!!
