FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons center Todd McClure had right knee surgery today and may miss the season opener. Coach Mike Smith said surgery was a “minor procedure.”

“Todd McClure, this morning, had a minor procedure done on his knee,” Smith said. “We don’t know the exact timeframe of him coming back. It was a very minor procedure. It was done this morning. I haven’t had an opportunity to talk to Todd or the doctors yet but we will be able to update that next week.

McClure has started 166 of the last 168 games at center, including a streak of 144 starts heading into the 2011 season.

“We will make a determination [if he can play in the season-opener] as we get closer to it next week,” Smith said. “The first few days, as I understand it, will be very critical in terms of when he can come back.”

He was a seventh round pick in the 1999 draft.

What a shame. And the season is almost ready to start. Tsk. tsk. tsk. Hopefully he’ll manage to rehab real quick and get back on the field. Wink! wink!

So now I’m torn on what to do with Hawley in the final preseason game on Thursday. It would be good for him to play, but can we risk him going down too? I’m glad McClure’s injury is not serious; however if it was, the Cowboys just cut Gurode…

…and a big smile crosses Amobi Okoye’s face. This is gonna be tough on the replacement. D-Led: so who’s our back-up? Does Hawley swing to center (I can’t remember…I think he can play center), or do we go with Bruggerman or Fenaroli?

Get well Todd. We need you on the O line. We already lost Dahl and don’t need a lot of changes on the O line. D line looks good. Edwards a welcomed addition. A pick up at backup linebacker would not be bad. The secondary is sad. Hope we pick up somebody’s castoffs or it will be a long season.

just glad its not FOR THE SEASON we will plug in next player
but this does change who we cut and keep next week Will make for a little extra to think about for smitty and MR D
We can not afford to have the center of our o line missing for very long so this thur game scenario has changed but we should be ok hope for quick and healthy recovery for him and our secondary as well

Oh no the sky is falling!!!!! Run and hide, they are going to loose every game!!!

People get real. It is one injury and the first game is against the bears not the eagles or aints. Good teams have to adjust and overcome changes.

The team had essentially no significant injuries during the preseason. McClure is a critical piece to the OL, but I imagine he will either have an outside chance of playing in the opener OR we have a suitable back-up in Hawley. Hawley appears to have done a fairly good job in the Preseason.

LOL! What did you expect, sympathy?!! You won’t get any from me. Man up, injuries are part of the game. The falcan’ts stayed real healthy last year, probably the only reason your team made the playoffs, ….but couldn’t take advantage of that good fortune.

Pick up Gurode and two DBs if/when any DBs are cut from Chargers. The Chargers are loaded with good backup DBs.

We definitely need to pick up Gurode and then wait for a good back up CB to be cut from another team. If Grimes was 3 inches taller he would have saved both TD’s against the Steelers. But he isn’t. And why on Earth didn’t Decoud knock Browns jock off is beyond me. I thought he was going to be a big hitter. He totally blew that play, but atleast he admits it.

The way Coach Smith reports injuries probably means that TM will be out until about the fifth game of the regular season. It’s Hawley’s job to loose now.

Seriously realitycheck and complete blank, you think because the center MAY be out for week 1 that we will have first losing season under Smith? We had a winning season two years ago with Ryan and Turner missing key games. I like McClure but he had that lame snap vs NO where it got caught on the carpet and blew another exchange in playoff game. May be a great opp for a guy like Hawley to step up. Reason we have been drafting o linemen last few years to gain depth.

Jay Cutler takes the snap from Garza, 4 step drop, he’s got all daaaay long, he throws deeeeeep to Hester…TOUCHDOWN! Eighty Yards and Dunta Robinson just got left behind!!! And just like that, the bears take a 6 nothing lead on atlanta, with 14:50 left in the first Qtr.

Yeah, basically center just became a priority over corner. Because Joe Hawley can’t play.

It’s Gurode or bust I guess.

ha, as if Olin Kreutz is any younger or healthier than McClure. Oh but by the grace of God…

McClure just got a scope anyway. He may be back by week 2. Either way, Joe Hawley cannot be trusted, under any scope of the imagination. He is not ready.

“minor surgery” means that he got his knee cleaned out from loose cartlidge..that is all. Not like he’s out for the year w/ an ACL. He has two weeks to heal up and he can still staret and come out and JHawley can take some snaps..and he’s a center first and foremost and can swing to guard, Hawley that is. They drafted him for a reason.

Yeah, cause Smith and the falcan’ts never, ever hold back the entire truth. Scoped! Minor surgery! LOL! For all you know, they could have amputed his leg below the knee, and it would still be called just a minor surgery. Uh-huh.

You know, if you guys wouldn’t respond to these trolls they would go away. You are giving them the attention they don’t get from mommy. DLED will erase the trolling posts anyway. What I don’t understand is why he doesn’t ban their IP. It is stupid that Falcon fans have to scroll through dozens of troll posts just to read what other Falcons fans are saying. DLED needs to make one of us a moderator to clean this blog up for good. I don’t mind if people have dissenting views, but to just come here to harass people who are actually here for the right reasons is childish. What are you like 8 year olds?
