Ray Edwards not pleased with his first outing

PITTSBURGH – Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards did not have a tackle or a sack in his debut against the Steelers on Saturday.

Here’s what he had to say after the game:

ON PLAYING AFTER MISSING THE FIRST TWO GAMES:  It felt good. I’m trying to get the cobwebs off. I have to get my legs back underneath me. I’m going to study the tape and see what I need to work on.

ON THE PASS RUSH: It felt good. We got some good pressure, but there are some other things we need to work on. We have to get more pressure, get more sacks and get more quarterbacks down.

ON HIS PLAY: I don’t know if they were too happy with my performance today, but I’m going back to the drawing board to see what I can do.

The offensive line looked good. The defense stopped the run well, but yet again our pass defense is horrible. I’m looking for more interceptions from Thomas Decoud. other than the dropped passed in the end zone by Julio Jones he looked good out there. Jaquizz can run the ball effectively. Antone smith might be the odd man out. Special teams need alot of work, we didn’t cover kickoffs well. I wasn’t looking for much the first outing from Ray Edwards. Hopefully Demitroff will look for help in that secondary, With a safety and cornerback.

Mr. Ledbetter,

Your blog activity has waned significantly since I left you last seek. You’re missing the “Simon” factor since; you know, someone on your Falcon’s blog whom all respect and find interesting and entertaining due to one’s candor, wit, and willingness to tell it like it to ignite and sustain a spirited and engaging dialogue?

If I may be so bold and humble…you need me to compliment your work like Batman needed Robin, Laurel needed Hardy, Dean needed Jerry, Huntley needed Brinkley and Paul needed Art!

I’m willing to return and partner with you again if you’re willing to stop being overly sensitive and nix the blog micromanagement as the blog COP! Deal?

I’m reaching out my hand, Mr. Ledbetter! Don’t let that silly pride keep us apart–I know you miss me! :-)

And I meant to stick this in…

This team looks way too similar to last season’s team:

The OL is suspect
We may have the worst DC to ever be in charge of an NFL defense…that secondary last night looked like the twin brother to the one that was pelted by Green Bay last January.

Mike Smith is accountable for this his choice, BVG, hasn’t been replace by now. Bill Belichick, Mike McCarthy, Mike Tomlin, Rex Ryan, or Jim Harbaugh, to name a few, would have fired BVG by now after three seasons, three drafts, and what we saw again Green Bay and what we saw last night.

The secondary was trying to make the big plays and go for the int. In the regular season that will not happen. Everyone tries to stand out in the pre season. They will be fine, who cares if they go 0-4 in the preseason. Going into this pre season the colts were 3-23 over the last 7 pre season games, and they are just fine. Pre season is nothing but a glorified scrimmage where coaches and players try new things to see what works and what doesn’t

The secondary is in trouble. The Falcons offense will run up the points but our DB’s won’t be able to hold it for us. We learned from Green Bay on one side of the ball but We will loose a lot of games this year with our secondary

Last Year, Falcons Offense only put 9 pts against Steelers Defense and the last night, we put 16 pts.. Of course, We gave more pts than last year too.

c’mon.. it’s a pre-season where OC and DC try to do few things and find out where they need to improve more…

Grimes went for INT than knocking the ball down.. hopefully he won’t do this kinda mistake in the regular season.

Ray didn’t really get that many snaps, but seemed to me like he held his ground and his assignment on the running plays, and pushed his man on the pass plays. Didn’t get home this week, but that’s not a big deal. Ray isn’t needed to be the savior by himself. He’s gong to open things up for the interior defenders to get more pressure as we saw last night. He’s going to make Bierman better because he’ll be more rested. The D-line rotation is going to be the big story of the season (behind all those points we are going to score). Rise Up Baby!

I think the Falcons will have trouble. 10-6 is probably makable.

So I am watching the game and looking for Ray Edwards. Not only do I not hear his name called by the announcers, but I dont see him involved in any play in the backfield or even a tackle. I have heard from some friends in Minny that he was overhyped and we paid too much for the guy.

Matt Ryan is missing something. Not sure what it is but he dont have that magic that Manning and Brady have going for them. Hopefully Julio J will continue to play like he did last night . Jones looks like Roddy white and he is a rookie. This will be trouble when the season starts for opposition.

I dont care much for the Burner Turner. He goes down like a clown too easy. Man keep them hamhock thighs moving and bowl over some beechs.

Jacquizz played pretty well and I saw him make some blocks that he was not making in earlier games. He runs hard and is a really good change of pace back.

Redmon is a good back up and I hope we dont need him.

Falcons play alot better at home than on the road. The Super Bowl teams do not care where they play. They go into other stadiums and kick some ars. That has to happen this year with the Falcons or we are going to lose in the first round of the playoffs.

GO FALCONS !

We will be ok! It’s preseason and they are not opening up the entire playbook yet. I don’t even remember them blitzing last night and if they did it was that much.

Troy Polamalu is a free agent next year, we need him bad!!!

The NFL Network is playing tape and laughing at the Falcons.

This is the worst pass defense in the NFL. Not even close.
We could go 3-13 with this secondary.

If it Walks like a Duck, Quack like a Duck, then folks…Its a Damn Duck!

The Falcons are who we thought they were – Paper Champions! Deep in the recesses of our hearts, we knew we were not really a 13-3 team last year. Green Bay exposed the frauds we were last year. Pittsburgh (Miami and Jacksonville) has exposed the Frauds were are going to be this year!.

I don’t want to hear all the “It’s only PRE-Season!” crap. The coach himself put a lot of significance to the game were were playing against Pittsburgh. And for all the bluster and muster we (Tom Dimitroff, Mike Smith, and Mike Mularkey) about us being more EXPLOSIVE. Wow, we really are seeing a lot.

Secondary –
Once again – EXPOSED!

We picked up what we thought was a strong legged kicker out of Miami in the 5th round. So far I haven’t seen him put a kickoff through the back of the end zone on a kick off with a 5 yard head start. So far he has not boomed a punt 60 yards or pinned an opposing team down with an angled accurate punt. While I realize the front office didn’t want to over pay Keonen (fiscal responsibility), Bosher needs to show me a little more. We won’t have to worry about a kickoff being returned if the ball is in the stands.

First we kid ourselves and believe that the result we are seeing is only “Pre-Season”

Next come the Season. When we lose the first game at Chicago, the cry will be “Its only 1 game”

It does not take much to see this team got 2 problems –

1.) A Defensive coordinator that don’t know how to “coordinate” a defense to be in the right position and know when and what kind of blitz to call. How ofter do you see us blitz the linebackers, only to see them get blocked and NEVER (rarely) get close to the QB?

2.) A Offensive Coordinator that calls a terrible game. If Matt Ryan had the chance to call 90% of his own plays in the no-huddle, I trust Matt Ryan to do much better than Mike Mularkey.

Speaking of “Check Down Matt Ryan” – seem that 50% of his passes were too high or un-catchable.

I have never been a fan of Decoud. I don’t know what the coaches see in him, he’s slow and soft. In fact, I have never seen him lay the wood to anyone and he’s in what, his 5th year? GB threw the ball for like 1,000 yards in the playoff blowout and didn’t punt once!! I have been saying since that they need to improve the secondary. But what have they done? Nothing!

I love how a lot of people are talking like these games count. It’s pre-season. Who cares if we win or lose? The pre-season is for evaluating individual players. You’re not going to see anything from the coaches except vanilla schemes. And Ray will be fine. This was his first game back for goodness sake. Still he did have an impact. This team will be ready when it matters.

Why does Ryan look like teenager? He looks frail, especially when he tries to run. If it wasn’t for that deep ball to Julio, I would still be thinking he can’t throw deep.

Im so sick of hearing about the green bay game….It’s done it’s over..As far as the offense goes you had 5 redzone opps and 5 scores on The Steelers D.On basic offense. The D held the starting running back for The Steelers to 8 yds rushing….The D also got pressure on the Qb with a 4 man rush and a total of 2 blitzes….You People are idiots…Not too mention everybody says Matt Ryan can’t throw a deep ball…still think that after last night
