JACKSONVILLE  – Defensive end Ray Edwards, the team’s prized free agent signee who is recovering from knee surgery, will not play against Jacksonville on Friday night.

Kroy Biermann will take his spot in the lineup.

Also, cornerback Christopher Owens has been announced as the starter for Dunta Robinson (hamstring) and defensive tackle Peria Jerry will start for Corey Peters. At center, Joe Hawley was not announced as the starter for Todd McClure at center, but coach Mike Smith said McClure wasn’t playing on Wednesday.

Jacksonville rookie Will Rackley, from Lehigh and Riverdale High, will start at left guard for the Jaguars. He’s starting for Jason Spitz.  Also for the Jags, Jeremy Mincey (Florida, Statesboro High) will start at right defensive end for Aaron Kampman.

LOL Hey Big O, What do you think is the missing piece for The Falcons with this current roster?

This is good, but he has to play in the third PreSeaon game. That is the only meaningful game for the Falcons starters.

I like D. Franks over Owens but this is only the preseason. I also like the idea of moving Grimes inside when teams go 3, 4, or 5 wide. I think it’s less pressure for the young guys on the outside. Ray Edwards will be ready. Smitty is normally cautious with his best players & vets. We have a great coach. GO FALCONS

I don’t want to go crazy with this because it’s the preseason, no one is horrible. This is a good team. I just don’t think they are a great team. They don’t look explosive in the least. They look like a reasonably talented middle of the pack playoff team like they have been the last 3 years.

This said, it;s week 2 of the preseason. Nothing to worry about, for the most part, but they have a long long long way to go to be explosive. They should have to run laps for field goals. Seriously. Field Goals are death.

Field GOALS ARE DEATH!!!!

Falcon fans, we have got trouble if this continues to the regular season. Matty Ice is focusing only on JULIO, he hasn’t even tried to get the ball to Tony G or Roddy W. I hope this does not become a trend.

all in all though it is preseason, we need to temper our expectations. This is a very very good team that just added a very very good pass rusher, and he hasn’t played yet.

PMC…nobody ever said you could take a strong-armed, brain dead heaver and make him into a great QB. But NOT having a strong arm is a detriment that can only be overcome by superior talent and abilities in other areas. Does Ryan have those? To be determined…
