FLOWERY BRANCH – Wide receiver Eric Weems, who returned to practice on Thursday, underwent knee surgery during the offseason, according to coach Mike Smith.
Smith would describe the surgery only as “a little procedure on his knee” following Thursday’s evening practice.
It was the first practice for Weems, who signed a one-year second-roudn tender worth $1.8 million in July.
Weems went to the Pro Bowl last season at the special teams player.

It’s amazing how many athletes get off-season surgeries without anyone knowing until the next season. Let’s hope Eric will be 100% by opening day. Does this mean Quizz and maybe Douglas would be the fill-in return specialists if he’s not ready to go?

Unfortunately the field turf and the constant pounding and pressure on the knees there will be many players that will eventually need knee surgeries.

By the way, DOL, is there any chance the Falcons are trying to bring in Cotchery to add experience at WR?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-eeeeems had an owie! I like those overarchievers Weems and Grimes… It is too bad that they are the type of players who will get the shaft development wise under the new CBA…

Yes! I want cotchery on the team. He runs great underneath routes; would be a good mentor to Kerry Meier.

Any interest in Taylor Mays??? I think he defines the word explosive! 6′2″ runs a 4.3 and hits like a truck. Would love to see him paired with William Moore. I would dare any wr to come across the middle. I think the Falcons would know how good he can be since he blocked one of our kicks and return for a score last year

Weems is an awesome return specialists. Hope everything is good. Sounds to me if it were major surgery we would have heard about it. This is going to be a great season for ATL.

Know what reeks? Since the players were locked out and Weems was Free-Agent anyway, he had to pay for his own medical bills for a football concern.
Real disappointed

D Falcon…..does not sound like more than micro-surgery. Was probably back working out in 10 days to 2 weeks after. But if you must worry, he is a good one to worry about.
