FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes signed his first-round tender worth $2.61 million and was on the practice field for the Thursday evening practice.

All of the rest of the Falcons non-unrestricted free agents – Quarterback John Parker Wilson, wide receiver Eric Weems and defensive tackle Vance Walker – signed last week and were attending meetings and taking mental reps at practices.

Grimes, who was a Pro Bowl alternate and played in the game, had five interceptions which was tied for the team lead with safety William Moore.

In 2010, Grimes was targeted a league-high 119 times by opponents (according to STATS, Inc.) Grimes answered the challenge, posting an NFC-best and a franchise-record 23 passes defensed to go with his five interceptions.

There is nothing new to report on running back Jason Snelling, an unrestricted free agent.

You do seem to be taking some unnecessary shots at my man. He’s back, now let’s get it! Now where is Snelling? #LeggoFalcons

There is no crow for D-Led to consume. He merely pointed out that the other RFA had signed tenders and were in camp for meetings, classroom work, and on the sidelines at practice. Brent chose to stay away. Simple as that.

For all of you DOL bashers, take note. In his article the other day, the headline was phrased as a QUESTION, not a statement of fact. The headline was ASKING whether BG turned his nose up at $2.61 mil.

Next, as a RFA, BG was well within his right to sit back and wait to see if another team would make him an offer. THIS DOESN’T MEAN HE WANTED TO LEAVE. By having another team step in and make an offer, it would force the falcons to match the offer or let him leave in exchange for a 1st rounder. This latter point was CLEARLY EXPLAINED in DLed’s post.

But of course, everyone took it as DLed trying to run Grimey out of town and then it all blew up for no reason. Of course his new agents, Condon and Dogra advised him to wait it out. It’s not a “holdout” if you’re not under contract. So again, everybody is up in arms thinking DLed said Grimes was a holdout. NOT TRUE. Why wouldn’t he want to wait and see if he could get more money? He earned the right to do so.

In the end, I’m glad this is all over, at least I hope so.

Since Adam Schefter reported this am that Falcons were 1 mill over the cap, does this mean they are now 3.61 million over? and any ideas / thoughts of how they will trim that by tomorrow?

How the hell are we over the cap when teams like the Eagles and Saints keep signing new players. Who are we paying like that? Sheesh. We still need a number 2 db.

I saw on ProFootballTalk where the Falcons were $2.6 million UNDER as of today, which makes perfect sense, given that it appears they earmarked cap space for Grimes to sign today.

16 hours ago @Adam Schefter tweeted: Seven teams are over cap and will have to be under by Friday: STL $100K: ATL $1 MIL: DAL $3 M; DET $8 M; HST $8.5 M; PIT $11M; OAK $12M.

@JustSayin, restricted free-agents and exclusive rights free agents would fall under the category of non-unrestricted. By using that term, he didn’t have to type as many words….LOL

ProFootbalktalk.com says we are $800K under now, so we must have done some money moves after Grimy signed the tender. I am also sure we will have a few bucks for Snelling if he comes back. If not, oh well, Rodgers gets to work on blitz protection A LOT the next 3 weeks!

Clarify for me…so Grimes cannot attend any meetings, and cannot think about football? Whereas Weems is allowed to think about football. Is this part of the new CBA?

Cuts will be made and we will have a little more cap space. There is 90 men on the roster right now (correct me if I’m wrong) and there is a game next week so that number may drop to 75-ish players. If that indeed happens then look for Thomas and Co. to re-sign Snelling for one year and possibly bring in either another WR or maybe even a DB, preferrably a safety. “The Sandman” and “The Missouri Hammer” need a seasoned veteran backup. Does anybody have Darren Sharper’s phone number?

@SeenThisB4 – I just checked the 2011 Pro Bowl roster and didn’t see one corner from the Aints on it. If he’s so bad he get burned in his dreams, what does that say about your CBs down in New Atlantis.

I’d love to see your face when you finally realize that the Aints were given that Lombardi trophy by the NFL as payback for not moving that crapbag team out of that toilet on the mouth of the Mississippi. The Aints are on the slide and will end up 3rd in the NFC South this year.

1. Falcons
2. Bucs
3. Aints
4. Panthers

Well, as if the false Noel Devine report wasn’t enough to jeopardize your credibility among fans, you wont shut up about Grimes.
Brent and Miko Grimes are extremely well liked by fans and players, so I have no clue why you’d pick a bone with them unless you wanted to be a hated man.

Anyway, great to have Grimes back. There was no doubt in my mind that he would stay.

Ding-Dang. I was hoping he would go to another team. Smurf just can’t hang with the tall receivers. Big heart and great effort does consistently stop big receivers. If I am the opposing coach I target Grimes on every pass play.
