GRIMES UPDATE: Dress shoes and tube socks!

The new look. Dress shoes and tube socks = Old School. (By Jeff Schultz/JSchultz@ajc.com)

FLOWERY BRANCH –  Just got back from lunch and found out that Brent Grimes and his wife, a former intern at 790 The Zone, went on the air to say some very kind things about me.

A few examples, via @iheartmiko on Twitter from Grimes’ wife, Miko Grimes:

  •  ”[Bleep] Orlando Ledbetter who wear white tube socks with dress shoes.”
  • “That bum can hate all he wants! He dont know the fact either! Ray Edwards is NOT a RFA dummy! My boo cant do ANYTHING until the 4th Loser!”
  • “It goes 2show u nebody w/a pen, a laptop or a mic can say ANYTHING & destroy everything you’ve worked hard 4! How does it feel @ajcfalcons?”

Well party on then! Guess they didn’t like me doing my job.

Part of a beat writer’s job is to see who’s at practice and when they are not here, tell the readers why.  Nothing personal. Grimes has not signed his first-round tender and is not here. Vance Walker, John Parker Wilson and Eric Weems have signed and are here even though they can’t practice.

But, I have a confession. There are days when I dress casual to cover practice and then change into my suit to shoot my standup video.  Some days I forget the dress socks and end up with dress shoes and tube socks.

Today, I remembered by dress socks. (Video will be up later!) But now, I’m thinking the dress shoes and tube socks thing might catch on. Should look real nice with one of my bow ties.

Waiting for the 2 Lives Stews to send over the transcript. I’ll post that too.

Doug asked me if I heard her radio rant. I sent back this text, ” Missed it! Just doing my job! Folks aren’t at practice. I have to tell my readers why. Nothing personal with me. D. Led goes hard in the paint.  You can read this on the air.”

Man, this post-lockout era is off to a grand start!!!

It would be better for all involved if this story just died.

Can’t we all just get along?

B Grimes will be in on Thursday.

Twitter is the worst technology in the modern world.

I wouldn’t take anything seriously that was spoken over the two live stooges show. . .nobody else does. Grimes obviously doesn’t have very good taste in women.

Falcons fans love you, D’Led.

Really, we always knew you were a horrible writer, but now you are getting into it with a players wife, and writing an article about it. This is almost as sad as your mock drafts.

That response was totally fair. Your earlier article was unfairly negative. I’ve got to call you out on that one.

Whoa. I kinda saw this coming when I read your blog earlier. But you know, as a former journalist and someone that appreciates keeping your ethics and whits, bravo. I believe you did your job. Though you have plenty on typos above. I can tell you were rattled. Hear is here.

I gotta go with ghostwriter on this one. Some confirmation via phone calls with Grimes or his reps could have resulted in a real article. Just blasting him because he hasn’t signed yet is no kind of journalism. I heard him on the radio last week addressing this. He stated then that he couldn’t practice until the 4th so he wasn’t going to rush in to signing anything. Perfectly reasonable. Now as far as letting your significant other come on the radio and mouth off….well, Brent probably should have waited until everybody was over being mad before talking to the stooos.

DLed – Its funny how people are upset because you do your job, and then others get upset when you very quickly defend yourself (as you should) when someone bashes you on a somewhat popular local radio show. People worry that you “create this article instead of reporting” … how long did this take you DLed, five minutes? Seven?

People complain. That’s what we do. I’ve done my fair share for sure. But not now. Thanks for your work. I love reading your stuff DLed. Keep it up.

And, just so you know, I’m cheering that Miko will keep it coming. No offense to you, but at least it gives me a laugh!

Said this on Twitter but just wanted to complete the thought DLed…you posed the question as to why he wasn’t in camp. There was a question mark at the end. You never said he turned his nose up, just asking if maybe he was expecting an offer and then what it is the Falcons would do if he was offered by another team. Maybe the headline was a poor way to phrase b/c it made it sound like he was being arrogant, but anyone who actually read the article can see it was just a simple observation. Always enjoy your coverage and updates…keep it up!

Teamguy and Mr. P are right. Mrs. G was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of line. I am disappointed that Brent has such poor taste in women. She is classless, disrespectful, irrational and paranoid. DOL simply stated the facts and raised a few questions for discussion; that is all. It obviously was not personal. The facts are what they are! I lost a lot of respect for the Grimes family today. DOL did good, and he deserves a raise!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know I thought when Terrence Moore left, the AJC could actually get some decent writers for the falcons, and not people who hate the franchise like Moore did. Instead this is what we got. I’m sure this post will be deleted, because that’s how dled rolls, but some of these articles are worse that watching paint dry. The “meet the rookies” articles look like a 5th grader doing a school project, the mock drafts are some of the worst I’ve seen for the falcons, granted he got some picks right for the other teams, but you are a beat writer for the FALCONS, last year you had us picking a center, WTF. Now you are creating news, and putting what I would think is something personally embarrassing out there for everyone to read. Quit arguing with MS Grimes, and go get something real to write about. If I were you I would avoid FB on Thursday, she might not have calmed down by then. Wonder what the Falcon organization thinks about all of this?

Seriously … we’ve got football back. Let’s stop this stuff, Grimes will be in on Aug 4. Brent said that before and if he wants to hold out to see if there’s a pay day in it — well, he’ll probably be waiting for a while.

RE attacking D-Led, it’s the only newspaper in town — we’re stuck with it and him.

Mr. Pappagiorgio,
According to Urban Dictionary, BOO is a term that is derived from the French word “beau” meaning beautiful. In 18th century England it meant an admirer, usually male. It made it’s way into Afro-Caribean language perhaps through the French colonisation of some Caribean islands.

Now meaning girl or boyfriend

D.-Led had every right and was doing his job questioning Grimes regarding his unsign tender. Grimes and his wife can tweet becasue they have the right to do so, however I wonder how Blank, who worries about image, feels about his player and a player’s wife acting a fool on the radio, especially the wife. Sorry Grimes, your teammates will have a field day with this, your wife made you look weak.

big difference between what someone “tweets” vs what someone a newspaper man posts on a newspaper blog. i’d expect poor grammar on a tweet – what’s your excuse DLed.

bottom line is we don’t desire to read Grimes tweets everyday. We do expect good and accurate reports for the AJC Falcon beat writer !

on the real DLed – we deserve better converage !

Wow. You never cease to amaze me D. Led. No use trying to explain because you just don’t get it. I truly have no idea how you have this job. You must have some dirt on management at the paper.

Some of you guys like D. Led, and that’s fine. But there are a whole lot of us who think his weak, typo filled reporting is a disservice to this team and city. Pardon us for having higher standards.

Brent Grimes is a spectacular player and a real asset to the Falcons. That is why he made All Pro and the Falcons put a 1st Round tender on him. I really hope that this kind of negativity doesn’t make him more inclined to go elsewhere. Brent, the real Falcon fans love you. Don’t let this stuff bother you.

You guys are way out of line to talk about somebody’s wife. She may had been in the wrong but for some of the idotic bloggers on here to talk trash about her isn’t much better. If somebody wrote an article about you the first thing you see is what the title, and the title misleads you to think that he is dogging (that means disrespecting Mr. Pappagiorgio) the Falcons. I’m not to say I want my wife to handle it that way but I also will not talk about another man’s wife they way some of you are.

It’s classless and disrespectful to talk about another man’s wife.

Yeah, sorry for voicing my opinion. I wouldn’t mind if D. Led was some dude in his basement writing a blog. I’d have no problem avoiding it. He’s a beat writer for the major newspaper in the state! I would like to see the AJC replace him with someone else. As long as he’s here, we’re getting these garbage posts (look around at the comments – I’m not the only unsatisfied poster). So I will continue to point out flaws in D Led’s work in the hopes that the management will hear all the noise and do something about it.

And by the way – if you don’t like my posts, do us all a favor and don’t read them.

D Led I’m sorry to say it but Miko’s writing is only slightly worse than yours and she’s more likely than you to get a good scoop on this team. You have brought this on yourself and to add fuel to the fire by taking on a players wife is only going to make it harder for you to do your job in the future. It’s really sad that the local paper is always late breaking stories from our Atlanta teams. It seems that SI & ESPN have better relationships with Atlanta clubs and players than our own beat writers. D Led this is a good move to make sure that trend continues.

DLed, you have to do better. How hard is it in this age of DVR, satellite radio, and podcast to pay attention to the team that you are assigned to cover? So many are outraged at the weak reporting because we already had better, more accurate information. Your piece was a back handed attempt to force a conversation with Grimes and his agent. The same agent that Peter King just wrote about being tight lipped. Poor execution, and worse judgement. We deserve better as fans and readers. You and your editors (always MIA) deserve this storm of bad press.

I just cant trust AJC for the real scoop on my Falcons. “The AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter has the inside story on the Atlanta Falcons” If he did.. he wouldn’t need “?” markes in his headlines. I’ll be looking for more trusted coverage from Jay Adams.
