Matt Ryan lines up with White and Jones

Buford – Falcons Pro Bowl wide receiver Roddy White didn’t want to chat after taking part in his first players-only practice on Tuesday.

Perhaps, he was tired after running several 100-yard sprints because the offense lost a challenge to the defense at the end of practice.

“No interviews, baby,” White said. “I came out here to work. The first day of training camp, y’all got me.”

White has attended two other workouts, but wasn’t comfortable with the field turf. Also, last week he held a football camp in his hometown of Charleston, S.C. He’s been working out alone and appeared to be in great shape.

“He’s been having a really good offseason,” Ryan said. “I thought he was really productive today. He was himself. He was out here running around, joking and doing his thing. I think it was good for Julio [Jones] to see how Roddy does his thing and get a couple of tidbits here and there. All in all, it was very productive.”

Ryan couldn’t contain his excitement about having White and Jones, the team’s 2011 first round draft pick, running routes together for the first time.

“I’m excited about having both of those guys playing for us,” Ryan said. “Julio is doing a great job. He’s a complement not only to Roddy, but to Harry Douglas, Mike Jenkins and Tony Gonzalez in the passing game and Michael Turner in the running game. He’s going to fit in well with our group of guys. Everybody is excited about that.”

Some of the other key offensive players, like tight end Tony Gonzalez and running back Michael Turner,  have not been to the workouts. But Ryan is not concerned and has been in touch with them.

“Tony is in California,” Ryan said. “Mike T is working out, taking care of himself and getting ready to go. But in the seven-on-seven drills, it’s tough for a running back to get out here and get some good work in. As we move forward, I’ve spoken to him and he’ll be ready to go.”

Ryan and player representative Coy Wire have been leading the twice-a-week workouts since early May.

During the seven-on-seven drills, White and Jones lined up together with Michael Palmer at tight end.  Later, White and Jones were flanked on opposite sides with Harry Douglas in the slot.

White, who led the league with 115 catches last season, came up with several tough grabs. He snagged one while being double-covered by cornerback Brent Grimes and safety William Moore.

“He looked good,” Moore said. “He hasn’t lost a stepped. He came out here and was crisp. It was good to see him and Julio do something.”

There were 21 players at practice.

“Both sides of the ball looked good today,” Moore said.

Somewhere Saints and Bucs fans just peed their pants a little. (I’d say Panthers fans as well but I don’t know if anyone is willing to admit their allegiance right now)

Glad the Falcons got Roddy. Was hoping AJ could land here, especially didn’t want him to drown in cincy.

Hey DOL, You take down your Jim Tressel poster yet? Still think OSU is a great program? Take the last 10 years and flush them down the crapper because Tressel cheated and lied his way to all those wins.

Nice.

DOL, if all else stays the same w/FA (meaning the Falcons don’t pursue or get anyone), and absent of a 1st and 4th round picks in 2012 (Julio trade w/CLE), where do you see the 2nd and 3rd round picks being applied?!?! TE (high-end replacement for T. Gonzalez), OLB (youth to backfill/replace Petersen)?!?!

I’m glad to see our leaders holding pass and catch sessions if only to keep the TEAM together. I hope the owners and players get a new contract done because no one wants to miss a season and tick the fans off. D Led thanks for the updates. you da bow tie man.

Glad Roddy showed I think it speaks a lot of an organization where the players are doing what it takes and it sends out a signal to other players that Atlanta is a great place to play and that there is closeness with this team and they all seem to love the coach and owner. Just hope that DE RayEdwards, DE Charles Johnson, DT Brandon Mebane and LB Manny Lawson take notice!

DawginLex – Nope. I go all the way back to Daddy Tressel winning all of games and a Division III title at Baldwin Wallace. Buckeyes will clean up their mess and continue to dominate the Big Ten.

DOL, Any chance you could ask if Ryan or one of the others would be willing to foot the bill to bring in Quizz or the other draft picks? Then we could really get this team started.

He’s the least person in the Falcons line-up you have to worry about. I think he’s earned the right to miss a few backyard practices. The young’ns are the ones who must earn their stripes.

tracking him down.

really feel this relaxed time of players getting on the field with out pressure of coaches is the best way for our young team to move to next level
players can teach each other who knows better from experince can just hear roddy telling jj hey when safety cheats up then just blow down field like this
good news for our birds we will be ok long as we can get back to work soon

Hey DOL, any info on the linebackers, or safety. Seem like its time to start looking at the development of the new guys. Just to hear if their trying to fit in or even show up. I know they are not suppose to get on the field yet, but will that translate into players getting to know each other. What do you think!!

I was looking at reply this week , and i saw beerman getting tairyed , let use rember 4 player that was on IR where did they play , those 4 so where the pulled from to get there replacements 1 de 1 ut and 1wr and rb beerman had 3 sack in week 5 then 2 they put him in week 6 and get 2sack the of the season. no we dont need to get an TE I think that Palmer–future TE

myboy – Safeties and linebackers have had near perfect attendance. DeCoud, Moore and Rafael Bush take the safety reps. I don’t believe that Schillinger’s ankle has been cleared. Lofton is leading the linebacker group. Nicholas, Adkins and Weatherspoon are regulars. Mike Peterson and Robert James have made appearances.

DOL– is the playbook they are working from full scope or scale down, and have you or anyone been able to get a true picture of the true ability of Jones to run good routes and catch consistently, albeit in shorts and t-shirts?

[...] Roddy White participated in his first player-organized workout on Tuesday this week. White had been absent at the player-organized Falcons workouts this off-season thus far this season. Per quarterback Matt Ryan, White showed up in good shape and was productive in his first practice. Last week, White was in his hometown of James Island, SC for a youth football camp. (Source: D.
