Falcons sense NFL lockout could be over soon

Buford – The Falcons’ seven-on-seven practice on Tuesday was the most spirited one in weeks.

Perhaps, it was the first appearance of Pro Bowl wide receiver Roddy White or it may have been the news that the NFL Lockout could be coming to a close in two weeks, according to the Washington Post.

“Hopefully, they can get it done,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said. “I’ve seen kind of the same reports that everybody else has seen. Like I’ve said all along, I’ve got good faith in both sides that we’ll come to an agreement and be able to get this worked out so that we can get back to work.”

Ryan and the rest of the Falcons hope that a deal is reached by early July, which would give them time to get ready for the normal start of training camp. The Falcons reported for training camp on July 29 last season.

Also, an early July settlement would allow for teams to have a frenzied couple of weeks of free agency if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.

Neither, the NFL nor the trade association has commented about being close to a settlement.

“You never know what’s true and what’s not,” Ryan said. “I hope it gets done as soon as possible. I think it’s good that they are working together and trying to come to an agreement. Whether if it comes next week or in the next few [weeks], we just hope it’s done before training camp would normally roll around.”

Since the NFL owners imposed the lockout in March, the NFLPA decertified and filed a lawsuit in federal court. The Eight Circuit Court of Appeals has not ruled on the NFL’s appeal of an injunction to block the lockout that was granted by the District Court.

I hope the players NEVER allow them to go to an 18-game schedule.

And for the safety of the players, I hope they limit/eliminate the Thursday night games too.

And if they keep it, at least move it to a network most people get.

I hope the owners get some major salary relief so the silly drive for a new stadium for every team every 15 years can cease and ticket prices can go down or at least not get any worse. The NFL needs a reduction on salaries to unproven rookies. The NFL also should set aside a significant amount of money for health benefits and retirement payments for players.

I can’t wait for this thing to be over so we can get down to football. I am excited to see this team take the field especially on offense now that we have added Julio Jones and Jaquizz Rodgers.

The end of the lockout is something I can celebrate even with falcan’t fans.

I hope that Free Agency reverts back to last year’s rules on restrictions, and that the open period is greatly abbreviated.

It’ll be good to get back to real football.

Oh and by the way Orlando, if you keep deleting my posts, then I might start taking my talents to South Beach!

They need to get rid of the 4 preseason games cost to much. I have 2 seats that I pay $130 each so for 2 games is $520 for practice??? Or at least lower preseason game ticket prices? A.I. was right were talking about practice man , not a game were talking about practice, not a game thow silly is that were talking about practice man what are we talking about it. We aint talking about the game we talking about practice not the actual game that matters were talking about practice

This is the best news all day. I disagree with you DOL on preseason. I think it is vital to evaluating players and I would not want to see the evaluation in the regular season when it is time to win football games. I also think that eliminating it would promote more strains and pulls to the starters as the preseason games gives the players one last opportunity to knock off the rust before they go all out.

One thing I feel strongly about is a rookie wage scale. I think too many times the hot shot players come out of college and become millionaires too quick. I don’t think they have devoloped the work ethic and responsibilty. They need to “earn” the money to appreciate what they have and not become lazy. This is not to say they didn’t earn there way to being drafted, but the guaranteed money they are being paid is crazy. I would rather see that money go the veterans and retired players. I was also disheartened with Roddy White when he held out a few years ago for more money. I think the money was going to be there, but he needed to be in camp with his team. In the real world, I think he would have been told to hit road.

Well the preseason is a waste of the FAN’S time. They could solve the issue of 18-game seasons if they would just cut the price of pre-season games. You’re only showing half the real talent, so we should only pay HALF the money plain and simple. If it weren’t for greed, that and this lockout wouldn’t even be a topic of discussion. Trust me, the recession is NOT affecting the owners at all but the players? Well, let’s just say no matter what I’m talking bout, there will be 18 games season soon.

Amen!

No other level of football do you have practice games, especially four of these at list ticket prices.

You have hundreds of repetitions at mini camps, specialty camps, scrimmages, and the entire training camp to evaluate players so any one who argues it is a necessity for FOUR entire practice games for these coaches to know who their players are is just ridiculous! I’d bet the Falcon coaches know today who is most likely to start against the Chicago Bears on September 11, and the one or two surprises that spring up every preseason can be that same little surprise the first couple of games.

No more than 2 preseason games and an 18 game regular season…I’d eliminate preseason games altogether and this would make the first couple of REAL games that much more interesting, just like the curiosity and interest we have today in what will happen with UGA and Boise State in their first game…mystery and unknown is exciting!

Plus, I just hate that every year we lose a key player or two for the year in a damn practice game where every Tom, D.ick, and Harry is trying to dismember someone to catch the coaches eye!

There is no logical reason to charge the prices they do for preseason games.

Do they charge the same prices for playoff or Super Bowl tickets?

DOL, let’s split the difference in the schedule and have 2 preseason games (50% less chance of getting hurt in a meaningless game) and 17 regular season games (to more easily break those ties without using those wacky SOS/interconference tie-breakers).

There’s nothing like being present at a home game with all of the excitement and “craziness” of the fans, but it’s still cheaper watching the game at home on T.V. and not having to fight the mass chaos of getting on the subway train. My budget and I will choose to stay at home this year.

There will never be an 18 game schedule, thst BS was floated last year before the lockout , and the owners have played the hand well, just to allow the players to claim a victory by blocking the 18 game bunk. It is like all the extras car dealers put on the sticker price and then tell you they will throw them in as a bonus and you go to your wife and tell her what a shrewd bargainer you are and the salesmen laugh about you over a few beers later. The 18 game schedule has always been a set up for a hollow victory by the players so the players assoc can brag to ESPN while the owners laugh over a few beers, er, champaign

I’m sorry, but I have no sympathy for either side. They have left the fans in the middle of a dispute that is hard to swallow for people that don’t make in their lifetime what the higher paid players make in a year. I realize not every player out there makes the mega money, and frankly, I can understand (slightly) their frustration. But, hey………….ask a firefighter or police officer how he feels knowing that he works his rump off to protect and serve and won’t even have football to watch as his relief. Gotta put things in perspective!

dawgs1 — I do like your thinking. The math doesn’t work though, there are 53 acitve players on each roster every week. Using your thought patern that would be 26.5 players divided by 18 games on the bench, won’t work, if you alternate in and out 2-3 players per week on the bench. It will work, i do like your thinking though. ComOn Man

The lockout should not end until the owners are satisfied and get everything they want. The players are getting too compacent and that is hurting the game. When was the last time you saw a ball carrier run like Walter Payton or Earl Campbell. Those were players, the guys today are wimps.
