BIRDLAND – Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez and running back Michael Turner will be featured on this Sunday’s episode of “The Top 100 players of 2011″ at  8 p.m. on the NFL Network.

Gonzalez and Turner finished ranked between 50-41 by their peers in the 100-player countdown. Quarterback Matt Ryan, who was featured last week, was ranked 52nd. He was presented on the show by former Falcons coach Jerry Glanville. Defensive end John Abraham was ranked 69th.

Gonzalez was second on the team with 70 catches last season. He also amassed 656 yards receiving and scored six touchdowns.  He will be presented on the show by Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin.

Turner rushed for 1,371 yards, caught a career-high 12 passes and scored 12 rushing touchdowns last season. He will be presented  defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, who played with Houston last season.

As a team, the Falcons have a total of five players ranked in the Top 100.  The NFL Network has not released the entire list, but the remaining Falcon is likely wide receiver Roddy White.

How does the Falcons total of 5 players on the list compare to other teams?

chill josh, we all know this whole “list” is asinine. lets just hope the corrupt appointed judges lift the lockout today, and/or the players and owners can get a new cba done, free agency happens, and we get our selves ready for training camp pronto.

Missing a couple players on this list to be truly championship caliber. Perhaps a Julio Jones and lockdown cornerback type would fit the bill. Or even a couple of super guys one the offensive line.

Gritz Blitz — I don’t have that information. I’ve seen where Green Bay has seven, though.

it would be even nicer to see these guys on the field this year D Led. I’m not optimistic about this CBA. I told you there would be a lockout (you probably knew already with all the insight you get.lol) and I’m saying now that I dont foresee a season this year…if so it’ll be shorter than Brian Bosworth’s career.

What I dont get is why the Flacons R not trying 2 sigh free agents. They need help in the DL yet have not made N E eforts to fix it.

Joe Tess — There is no free agency right now. The word is that they are going to try to sign Minn DE Ray Edwards.

SirReal — I don’t dodge folks. I try to stand tall in the pocket! We’ll have a season. It just might be 14 games, just like the old days. That would shave off Chicago and Philly from the Falcons and make their schedule weaker. Just my humble prediction. We are definitely out fishing (with the Hawks) right now.

What’s up with the baseball folks being up in arms over that Scott Cousins play. That was just a hard hit. What was he supposed to do. Just supports my view that baseball players are soft.

These are some odd presenters…Josh Freeman and Jerry Glanville I get, MT and AO are odd. I would think our 5 would rank well among playoff teams as players respect talent on playoff teams.

I do not see the Falcons spending money on a End. They may if they trade a few players. They were using new schemes with a new coaches & players.I like the ends they have but Edwards is a plus, so if he want to come show him the money. lol I’m ready for Dent & Julio to prove the haters wrong……

Leave it to the Failcans to try and take credit for Tonys’ HOF career with the Chiefs. Oh yeah… Where is his playoff win that he was promised?

I guess it is envy when Saints fan post on Falcons sites. That Superbowl win is in the past. I am sure that means nothing to most. I.
I’m just saying…… Julio & White will make the Falcons elite…

Eveyone knows defense win rings….Yet the Falcons spended the entire draft in two years to get an offensive ( rookie WR=least impact) player, can’t understand the logic. Just like PG and center win rings in the NBA, yet the Hawks keep on drafting Forward. No wonder Atlanta pro sport win 1 ring in 150 seasons.

What era are you end. Tampa & the Ravens won on defense, years ago. Offense wins games, defense only have to get key stops. Example Colts, Saints, & Packers. 21 plus points will get you a victory with an average defense.

I mean what decade lol The Falcons defense is not as bad as most think. We had a new defense coordinator, new secondary coach, a few rookies because Moore was injured in his 1st year. We lost to the Superbowl Champs, we competed with everyone except for 1 game. That being said did’nt we beat them previously that season. Go join another bandwagon this wagon’s full.

Edwards would relieve a little pressure off of Abe and that should help a lot. I still think we need a shut down corner.

Glad to see Gonzalez on the list. However, I hope we see him get his 1st playoff win this year. If the Falcons fail to do that this year…….bye bye Smith and TD, time for your replacements. I know all about their contracts…..and don’t care. This year or they’re done. In my book any way.

3 winning seasons, do you suggest Super Bowl or bust. It takes years to build a Super Bowl team. Unless you do it through free agency. The Falcons are getting better & patience is the key. I love the staff & the players. Go Falcons!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way I like our defense, but if Edwards want to come he welcome lol

I will remain a fan, have been for many many years. But this team they have build is talent ready for a playoff win, never said superbowl or bust, but the talent is there the coaching needs to prove their worth this year.
