Wide receiver Julio Jones, who had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot, was cleared to run on Tuesday.
“Heading back to Atlanta from Charlotte I had a recheck on my foot everything went great now I can start running#WINNING,” Jones tweeted at 4 p.m.
Jones, whom the Falcons traded up 21 spots to select in the NFL draft, has already been meeting with quarterback Matt Ryan and the wide receivers.

Embrace this young man Atlanta. I have had the pleasure of knowing Julio since he was in middle school. His focus and drive to be the best is unmatched by any athlete I have ever seen. He will make you all proud he is on your team.

@Bryant – thanks! I get the same sense from the few interviews I’ve seen. Seems like he’s worth all that we gave up and then some. Can’t wait to see him on the field.

I don’t know that much about JJ but if he’s as gifted a receiver & has the character\workethic as everyone says then he will be just what we need. If he has good hands & can hold on to the ball the falcons “O” will be a Force to be reckoned with. GO FALCONS!!!!

@Frank, granted most rookie wide receivers take a couple of years to develop in the NFL but according to John Parker Wilson, our 3rd string QB who was the starting QB for Alabama and played with Julio Jones, he says that Alabama’s routes were about the same as the Falcons and that Julio was a quick learner. He said he believed that Julio would have no problem picking up the routes and would develop into a starter early. So, believing in what someone who should know, I think you may be incorrect in thinking it will take 2 years for him to have an effect on the Falcons offense. Hope so anyway.

We don’t need Julio to be an all pro. What we need him for is as a deep threat. The Falcons have enough talent, on both sides of the ball, to be a real problem for anyone in the NFC. With Julio defenses will now have to defend the entire field. This as as big a splash and as big a move as any free agent we could have signed.

if only you had a qb with enough arm to reach him consistantly , then defending the field might be a problem. all i see is matty melt chukin’ it up in the air hoping someone will run under it , and the db’s will be all over that .

Actualy I am a huge LSU fan and can tell you Jamarcus was not that great at LSU in fact they had to dumb down the offense for him, He shined in Sugar bowl against a slow Notre Dame team and conned the idiot Raiders into taking him. Back to subject Julio is a beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This season will be base on which team is in shape and play together as one. This lockout will hurt NFL teams and players. Atlanta push these falcons too get together and workout and build a family together. The superbowl will be a team no one thought at all because of this lockout.. Players need timing and learning one another. Matty Ice will need this with his receivers and draft pick. Some teams are not doing much at all … push the falcons too get everyone there and get the draft picks there too if not, we want have the timing or style too make the playoff this year.
