BIRDLAND – Falcons first-round draft pick Julio Jones has been assigned No. 11.

You can purchase your jersey here.

Jones wore No. 8 at Alabama. But that number is assigned to backup quarterback Chris Redman. He wore No. 82 in high school. Long snapper Joe Zelenka wears No. 82.

During his press conference on Friday, Jones didn’t really care about his new jersey number. He said that the player inside of the jersey makes the number.

Owner Arthur Blank liked that answer.

Here are the numbers for the rest of the draft picks –  43 Akeem Dent, 22 Jacquizz Rodgers, 5 Matt Bosher, 69 Andrew Jackson and 93 Cliff Matthews.

Can we buy him a bigger suit?

Question for DOL.

Did the Falcons have Noel Devine on their draft board? It seems that him and Rodgers are similar players. I was wondering if they considered Devine as well.

I’m glad we didn’t upset Joe Zelenka. You certainly don’t want to rock that boat!

But all kidding aside, I think this is just more evidence that Julio has his head on straight. A lot of wide receiver “diva” (I hate that word) types would put up a big fuss about getting “their” number, but Julio just wants to play.

Great pick. Great guy.

GO FALCONS!

I know there is mixed opinion about the trades but I really like this kid – his demeanor, work ethic and consideration for others is something you just don’t see with high profile athletes. That in and of itself makes me want to give him every chance to succeed.

Go Birds!!!

good riddance Osama

i used numbers 3, 13, 14, 23 in different sports and played the same. jones is right it’s the player in the number not the number. oh, i sat the bench.

Winston doesn’t looked too thrilled about having his photo snapped right then…

When are you going to divulge your source for the Falcons trade info? That’s the best unanswered question remaining from the draft and inquiring minds want to know….from inside our building or not?

WR’s cannot wear single digit numbers – had to be 10-19 or 80-89 – so Redman’s #8 was not an option.

great pick. The kids smart… has had to earn everything and a great Mom who has taught him respect and moral character. The Falcons not only got a #1ball player but a future great role model.

The more I read and hear about Jones, the more I like. He has a work ethic that reminds me of a guy name Rice. Now clearly convinced he rates higher on the draft board than the Georgia guy especially in off the field leadership and integrity. Bet he is already working on the play book.

#11 seems such a small story given the news of the day.

I’ve not given Obama credit for much but today he is my President.

God Bless every cook and deckhand and mechanic that supported the Seals.

What courage.

Let’s make something clear. The Falcons gave up one first round pick for Julio. They swapped first round positions. That’s not giving up two. They gave them their number one next season.

It wouldn’t matter if Redman gave up his # or not, recievers can only wear #’s 10-19 or 80-89.

Great Pick even greater jersey number now he has the same number as Larry Fitzgerald. I can’t wait to see him lined up across the field from Roddy White giving Matt Ryan another deep threat weapon. I’ve already got my order in for his new jersey.

I’m really not happy about the way player numbers have changed. Wide Receivers should only wear 80-89. While I understand “the player makes the number” comment, receivers wearing 11, 17, 19… it just doesn’t look right!

I’ve been in your position and i totally understand, however, from a fan’s perspective, I’m interested in “inside baseball” and strategy just like everyone else. I wonder about things. Like– did CLE or CIN leak it to drive up their price or give the deal an extra little”push”? Did TD, after successfully keeping his plans under wraps for months, suddenly have a change of heart and let you in on his little secret? Did Mr. Blank, upon reading your story, turn a violent shade of red, causing his secretary to fear a heart attack? If you were in his shoes, would you even be concerned that such a breach of operational security could occur on the eve of one of the biggest moves you’ve ever planned as an owner? Things like that, I wonder about….

Cliff Matthews was a steal in Round 7. Very hard working DE from Carolina that will be a great role player for the Falcons if they give him a shot.
