The Atlanta Falcons, the defending NFC South champions will make four prime time appearances next season.
The Falcons will host Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles in their home opener on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Sept. 18. Three weeks later, the Falcons will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.
The Falcons will host Jacksonville on Thursday night, Dec. 15 and then travel to NFC South rival New Orleans for a Dec. 26 Monday Night Football.
The Falcons played three national televised game in 2007, but had been somewhat shunned by the league’s TV partners in wake of Vick going to federal prison.
The NFL is locked in a legal battle with the players basically over the distribution of revenues. The league’s owners locked the players out on March 11, after the players decertified their union. The two sides are currently in federal court-ordered mediation.
Negotiations will likely have to pick up steam if the season is to start as scheduled.
After winning the NFC South and being eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs by the Packers, the Falcons will be attempting to post their fourth consecutive winning season. The Packers pummeled the Falcons 48-21 on Jan. 15 and went on to capture Super Bowl XLV.

I think this schedule works well for us. Bye week in the middle of the season is good. @ Chicago in Sept. is good. Only west coast trip (@ SEA) early in the schedule. as someone else noted, bye week prior to Colts game. All good. I see us going 4-2 in the division, 3-1 vs the AFC, 3-1 vs NFC North, 1-1 vs Sea/Philly. 11 wins will get us in the tournament, then Matty @ co. need to win a playoff game or two.

It doesn’t hurt me. Despite being a loyal Falcon fan, I rooted for the Saints in the Super Bowl 2 years ago. Where I live, all you hear about are the Jets and Patriots and the overrated AFC. I will always support the NFC in the Super Bowl and wish the national media would focus on the fact that the NFC has won 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls. I salute the Saints and their title. And that title has no bearing on this season coming up–it’s a brand new day.
hiramsaint
April 19th, 2011
8:42 pm
thanks for your support but i think that the title does have a lttle bit of bearing on the season . it’s a glimpse of what was and what could possibly be again. the packers , steelers , cowboys and patriots all carry a llittle extra ooomph because of their multiple titles and it does carry over. the main thing is one helps lead to another hopefully and it’s an attitude that a team can build on.

I agree, the fact that a team has already won it can be a huge boost to morale. Still, so much has to go right to win a title–everything has to fall in to place, especially in the NFL w/ all the parity. I don’t know–again, living up here, it’s brutal, I get to hear the Yankee fans and all their “27 rings” crap every time…those 27 rings aren’t helping Derek Jeter bat over .200…anyway, yes, the knoweldge that they’ve won a title can help the Saints, but it takes a lot more than that, especially in a league with so much parity.

what the falcons need is that play maker defender that just has a nose for the ball. I don’t care what position on defense because frankly we are not perfect anywhere or even close. But that one player that is just a pure difference maker will change our season around. I’m thinking a more high energy guy with versatility such as akeem ayers, brooks reed, or possibly kerrigan. TD needs to evaluate the defensive group in this draft and decide who the most explosive players are on the defensive side and take the top one. But think abut lofton weatherspoon and ayers as the backers. All studs and potential future pro bowlers and all under 25 years old. WOW
The word of truth
April 19th, 2011
10:01 pm
Also i think if we took any of those guys with the first and then go offense in the next 3 rounds in the forms of jerrnigan, then demarco murray, then virgil green. then in the 5-7th rounds draft lineman. We should also try to acquire someone at LB, DE, and CB in the off season. We will probably get one of these positions in the draft and we should get the other two in free agency.

Win the games youre supposed to win, and grab a couple youre not.

The Saints schedule is much more palatable, open the season up at GB, but then home games against the Bears and Houston, only tough part is a 3 game road junket in October, get the bye in week 11, and then 4 of six at home to finish the season against fairly weak teams, the only strong team we play in the last six is New York in Week 12. I think the Saints will have the NFC South locked up by week 15, coast to the playoffs and a second Super Bowl appearance.

No way we lose more than 5. 11-5 at worst next season. Go 6-0 in our division and then worry about the rest. Focus on beating the division foes first. 2-0 vs. New Orleans, 2-0 vs. Carolina, then 2-0 vs. Tampa and then go out and win 5 or 6 more games and that’ll leave you with 11-12 wins. 13-3 is going to be very hard to beat, or match and we most likely won’t get a chance to do that too quick. Double digit wins should be what we shoot for. 10 wins should get you in the tournament, after that all bets are off.

If you are scared, say you’re scared,
Otherwise…let’s settle this thing and bring on the season.
Great teams rise to the level of competition. So-So teams shrink at it.
Let’s test the Falcons mettle and see where this team is really going.

It’s a tough start, even could be 3-4 by the bye week. The Falcons will clean up the NFC South this year going undefeated. …….! They will win vs Tennessee, Minnesota, Indianapolis, and Jacksonville. Houston is only a player or two away from being a real contender. I see them finishing 12-4, 11-5 easily.

I have no issues with our schedule at all. People who complain about their team’s schedule need to realize that the schedules are predetermined years in advance. The only thing left to do is determine the order that the games are played in.
As for the Falcons, I’m quite confident that we can repeat as division champs. We don’t have any major major holes to fill; just a couple of missing pieces here and there. Also, our HC and OC have to be more aggressive on offense.
I see that SeenThisB4 is smoking that stuff again. This is the same person who predicted an 8-8 or worse finish last season, and we know how that turned out. As for the playoffs, I agree that it’s time for Matt Ryan to win a postseason game, but there are plenty of QB’s who struggled for a bit before taking that next step in the postseason. Peyton Manning comes to mind.

Marino didn’t win a SB, but he did win playoff games. I know it pains you to realize this, but Matt Ryan will win his share of playoff games and he will end up winning at least one Lombardi trophy.

Well, till he does, he fits in more in Marino’s company, than Peyton Manning’s.
And just between you and me, and the rest of the falcan’t fan nation, Matt Ryan is not an elite QB. You may all think he is, but he is not.

The saints will wind up 3rd in the NFCS, if the NFL has a 2011 season.
They are has-beens, but they have a SB trophy.
Their fans will still be saying the same thing 20 years from now, “we got the SB in the 2009 season”.

I won’t go as far to say that the Saints were given the SB, but it does amuse me to hear Saints fans talk about how the Falcons got lucky in some of their games last season. Luck played a part in quite a few of the Saints games during their SB run.

I have studied our team carefully. Extracting emotion from logic, reasoning, circumstance, experience, results and reality, below is how I rank today the top ten NFL teams entering the 2011 season:
1. Green Bay
2. New England
3. Pittsburgh
4. New Orleans
5. Baltimore
6. New York Jets
7. Chicago
8. Atlanta
9. Indianapolis
10. Philadelphia
Closing in on the Top Ten: Dallas, Tampa, New York Giants and Detroit…yes, Detroit!
Why, Falcon Fans is our team not higher? One that understands the definition of metaknowledge will know this answer: defense!
The final four Super Bowl contestants were playing the best defense in the NFL in the playoffs last season…we were not then, and are not now, even close to this level.

I agree with your assessment for the most part, though I would say the Saints are at #6 for now, behind the Ravens and Jets, because the Saints weren’t playing defense at the end of the season either.

Ahh, hiramsaint, my good buddy. Hey Dude, It’s been awhile…didn’t hear much from ya when we winning last season. We did meltdown in the playoffs, but Falcon history kinda shows that, and it’s too bad because I’ve been a fan since 1966 growing up in ND. To others here— the ’saint’ is not lonely and mentally ill. He’s actually pretty entertaining and inspiring. He’s good at pushing buttons but he does know football stats. Stay in touch man, and we’ll check out the first Atlanta SB win this season. That is if they have one.

realistically, i see another 13-3 season and possibly home field again….im giving wins to TB, NO, and GB…we should be good enough to take the rest…NFC south games are always ultra competitive, so you almost have to split those (except carolina)…GB, obviously, SB champs…only other game i see a ? on is the Indy game…i pick us to win, but it could swing the other way also…although 12-4 would still be a solid record, 13-3 is my vote….que the Aint’s fans

You know you have to feel bad for Saints fans for so long they were the laughing stock of the NFL and they win one Super Bowl and they act like they are the only ones to ever win it.But you can’t blame them that’s all they have is the Saints,I mean as soon as CP3 leaves New Orleans Hornets the NBA will disband the franchise and the Saints will be the only “pro team” left. Here in Atlanta we get spoiled with every pro franchise you can have,so we don’t get so obsessed with just the Falcons and have other options. And Saint fans you don’t see Pittsburgh fans on here and they have won 7 super bowls.

it’s been 5yrs. of whodat ownership in atl and i must agree about their good luck last year but we all know how that goes. i see atl losin 2 to the saints , 1 to the bucs and. that , coupled with losses to philly , chicago , green bay , indy , houston and possibly minn. makes for a 8-8 or if good luck does hold out , a 9-7 season. i believe thats good for the city of mediocrity to have another one of those WINNING SEASON celebrations that you’ve become famous for and laughed about in cities that have gone a bit further and won a championship. you know , cities like dallas , pittsburgh ,new orleans , oakland and the region of new england.

and your” invincible in the dome” failcans went as a #1 seed against a #6 seed wildcard team and got pummeled while conceding in the 2nd qtr. both of our teams had embarassing losses but a #5 seed wildcard team losing to a div. champ vs. a #1 seed getting annihilated by a #6 seed wildcard team , well we all know which one was a wee bit worse.
