The Atlanta Falcons, the defending NFC South champions will make four prime time appearances next season.

The Falcons will host Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles in their home opener on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Sept. 18. Three weeks later, the Falcons will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.

The Falcons will host Jacksonville on Thursday night, Dec. 15 and then travel to NFC South rival New Orleans for a Dec. 26 Monday Night Football.

The Falcons played three national televised game in 2007, but had been somewhat shunned by the league’s TV partners in wake of Vick going to federal prison.

The NFL is locked in a legal battle with the players basically over the distribution of revenues.  The league’s owners locked the players out on March 11, after the players decertified their union. The two sides are currently in federal court-ordered mediation.

Negotiations will likely have to pick up steam if the season is to start as scheduled.

After winning the NFC South and being eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs by the Packers, the Falcons will be attempting to post their fourth consecutive winning season. The Packers pummeled the Falcons 48-21 on Jan. 15 and went on to capture Super Bowl XLV.

This sounds like a good Monday Night game, but it won’t be one.

Good! At least we know we won’t have to travel there in the winter when there’s like 10 inches of snow on the ground and we’re in danger. It’ll be nice and warm. Just like I like it. Go Falcons!

i watched the game and there was no MATCH to begin with. it was a lopsided spanking that was over in qtr. 1 . calling it a rematch makes no sense.

Hey, hiramsaint, last we saw ya’ll, you were being upstaged by a bad Seahawks team with a losing record. And you will be upstaged (again) by the Pack to start another failed campaign 0-1. Welcome back to reality.

i love the saint fans that come on here. seems like a fine way to spend your time, bad trolling.

Is this the only way the wacko saints fans can feel better after loosing to 7-9?

i guess it ain’t that easy in the big easy. huh.

I’m glad we have more national games this year, though. I’m thinking this team is going to come out angry, hungry and better organized than most other teams.

Let’s go birds!

At least the saints have a super bowl ring, what does the falcants have, oh I know a 2010 NFC south banner. You guys are content with that NFC south banner, what a bunch of losers.

We had injuries, which is part of the game, so we lost to Seattle, what’s the falcants excuse for getting stomped at home to green bay. I’ve never seen a stadium that empty in the third quarter. Fair weather falcants fans.

we may have lost to a division winner by 5 pts. with a banged up team but at least we didn’t concede a playoff game in the 1st qtr. to the #6 seed wildcard team. RISE UP has become choked again

you do know that 6 seed won the super bowl, right?

Did you not see that?

Or did they start rolling blackouts in NO after the lynch trampled the saint’s D?

I’m going w/ the later.

all trash talking aside, neither team lived up to expectations. And the NFC south is going through a gauntlet this year.

Brutal stuff. Wish we had the west again.

Hiramsaint, you were humiliated by the worst team to ever make the playoffs… and you say Kevin is making excuses right after you claim yall were ‘banged up’ when you got thumped by a lousy Seahawks team. Who Day making excuses? Aren’t yall the only team to ever lose a playoff game to a team with a losing record? You must be so proud!

the saints being banged up is not an excuse- just a simple fact. facts are hard for the falcons fans to understand which is why they automatically relate everything to excuses. wat wat wat- agreed- it was a disappointing season but if you knew you were gonna win it all every year then there would be no point. good luck to you this year but don’t tell anyone on your side i said it.

I think this schedule works well for us. Bye week in the middle of the season is good. @ Chicago in Sept. is good. Only west coast trip (@ SEA) early in the schedule. as someone else noted, bye week prior to Colts game. All good. I see us going 4-2 in the division, 3-1 vs the AFC, 3-1 vs NFC North, 1-1 vs Sea/Philly. 11 wins will get us in the tournament, then Matty @ co. need to win a playoff game or two.

It doesn’t hurt me. Despite being a loyal Falcon fan, I rooted for the Saints in the Super Bowl 2 years ago. Where I live, all you hear about are the Jets and Patriots and the overrated AFC. I will always support the NFC in the Super Bowl and wish the national media would focus on the fact that the NFC has won 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls. I salute the Saints and their title. And that title has no bearing on this season coming up–it’s a brand new day.

hiramsaint

April 19th, 2011
8:42 pm

thanks for your support but i think that the title does have a lttle bit of bearing on the season . it’s a glimpse of what was and what could possibly be again. the packers , steelers , cowboys and patriots all carry a llittle extra ooomph because of their multiple titles and it does carry over. the main thing is one helps lead to another hopefully and it’s an attitude that a team can build on.

Reality Check

April 19th, 2011

How long has been since the Falcons last won a playoff game?

Well the qb at the time has gone to prison, joined a new team and won a division title.

Just sayin.

Connecticut Falcons Fan

April 19th, 2011

I agree, the fact that a team has already won it can be a huge boost to morale. Still, so much has to go right to win a title–everything has to fall in to place, especially in the NFL w/ all the parity. I don’t know–again, living up here, it’s brutal, I get to hear the Yankee fans and all their “27 rings” crap every time…those 27 rings aren’t helping Derek Jeter bat over .200…anyway, yes, the knoweldge that they’ve won a title can help the Saints, but it takes a lot more than that, especially in a league with so much parity.

The word of truth

April 19th, 2011
9:56 pm

what the falcons need is that play maker defender that just has a nose for the ball. I don’t care what position on defense because frankly we are not perfect anywhere or even close. But that one player that is just a pure difference maker will change our season around. I’m thinking a more high energy guy with versatility such as akeem ayers, brooks reed, or possibly kerrigan. TD needs to evaluate the defensive group in this draft and decide who the most explosive players are on the defensive side and take the top one. But think abut lofton weatherspoon and ayers as the backers. All studs and potential future pro bowlers and all under 25 years old. WOW

The word of truth

April 19th, 2011
10:01 pm

Also i think if we took any of those guys with the first and then go offense in the next 3 rounds in the forms of jerrnigan, then demarco murray, then virgil green. then in the 5-7th rounds draft lineman. We should also try to acquire someone at LB, DE, and CB in the off season. We will probably get one of these positions in the draft and we should get the other two in free agency.

There are 10 wins in this schedule. Go get them.
This team is at the point where I dont think it is unreasonable to have expectations.
I expect a 2nd NFC South Championship at the absolute least.

CT Falcons fan is dead on. 4-2 in the division, 3-1 against AFC South and 2-2 against NFC north and 1-1 against SEA and PHI and we can get in.
Win the games youre supposed to win, and grab a couple youre not.

After researching it a little (feel free to correct me), our Falcons will not face a team coming off of their bye week. That is a positive. Those first three outta four on the road is tough. HiramSaint – The Aint’s will have to face the Colts this year…..I will be watching intently to see Dwight Freeney plant Brees six foot under the Superdome and laugh when it happens.

Looks to me like the falcan’ts will be hard pressed to stay at .500 the entire year. You’ll be 8-8. You may win the opener, maybe, but then your ex-QB will slice and dice your slow defense to death.
