100813 Atlanta - Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Corey Peters (91) during game action in the exhibition season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Friday, August 13, 2010. Curtis Compton ccompton@ajc.com
In Late Rounders, executive Producer Benjamin Suarez and director Evan A. Marshall give a glimpse inside the pursuit of the NFL’s golden ticket.
Late Rounders documents the story of a group of college football stars as they proceed in their journey to make the 53-man roster of an NFL football team. On draft day, fate decides which of these talented players from various backgrounds will see their dreams come true – and which will taste bitter defeat.
The candid, touching film features Peters, Aaron Morgan, a defensive end from University of Louisiana-Monroe, Alfonso Smith, a running back from Kentucky, John Conner, a fullback from Kentukcy and Ray Fisher, a cornerback/kick returner form Indiana University.
Share the journeys of five college football players in a pivotal moment of their lives: NFL Draft Day. Self-confessed “underdog” agents Michael Puterbaugh and Greg ‘Tripp’ Linton – real-life Jerry Maguires – are under pressure to train and showcase their players for potential glory in America’s favorite sport. “A man that doesn’t work, doesn’t eat,” is the creed of their motivated client Corey Peters who is set on his career path with a call from the Falcons, documented on camera by Evan Marshall. His victorious response, “Atlanta baby!” gives momentary hope for the four other Late Rounders waiting for one phone call that could change their lives.

I think this is great. Corey certainly deserves some limelight. I hope those other four have found their way as well.

Saw this at the DC film Fest, recommended for those who don’t even know anything about football, great human interest stories.

I coached some late rounders, who had long careers – when a great player is drafted in the 7th Round 32 teams have passed on him through 6 rounds – I remember coming into a staff meeting early in training camp and reporting that it looks like we had a late round choice who was going to be a better NFL player than some of the players we had drafted higher
