D-Led I thought the Detroit pick was a 6th rounder since they didn’t have a 7th?

If not, why did San Francisco get the 6th rounder?

Not bad with TD on the helm as our GM I trust him to make great picks if he can get the two from UGA that’d be awesome Aj. Green and Justin Houston. That’s just wishful thinking.

If they dont get a impact player that can contribute, I hope thez trade their 1st rd pick. Green, Pouncez, & Houston on is would be great picks. Houston is a better strong side Lb than any LB that we have. Spoon can man the weakside. Peterson he a good player with no speed.

Didn’t Detroit lose their 7th rounder for tampering??

If so, It can’t go to the Falcons.

my thought package 1st/2nd pick for A.J.Green and throw in Micheal Jenkins….what say you Mr. D?

When Dimitroff and Smith (D&S) first got here, the talk was about controlling the lines of scrimmage, especially the middle. I can’t see them passing on Pouncey if he’s available. The question we need answered before we decide what positions must be addressed in the draft is what do D&S think about the guys that they have been grooming for DE, OL, CB, etc? Are any of those guys ready to play?
If the answer is no to all of them then we have to have in order a third CB, a DE, a TE in training, an OLB, a shifty RB, and a OL or even two. The CB is going to play at least half the snaps in our pass happy division. Our pass rush is nonexistent so we need a DE and a OLB that can rush the passer and a TE that will start in 2012. We need an OL guy that we can run behind on third and one and expect to get the yard. I’m ready to give up on what’s his face Mr. IR and draft a healthy shifty RB. I bet if we drafted 3 RB’s in the 7th round at least one of them would be better that Mr. IR.

Does this mean Detroit regained their 7th rounder, and Atlanta took it under the original terms of the trade?

One every round…not the greatest layout. Maybe a couple 7th rounders can be packaged up for a 5th…who knows…It will be fun to watch even if we are in the middle of the strike. Football talk in April..

Some of your readers want Green in the worse way. Bad pick, he’s very moody. Get Julio Jones or trade up for him. He is a real man. Played with a broken hand most of the year and as most Bama players are, very coachable.

TD is not trading our 1st or 2nd pick for anyone and I’m glad the he’s in charge. We all know how much the patriot organization has accomplished. That’s not to say we’re going to achieve the same thing(I sure hope we do…). TD was over the scouting dept there and is a big reason for some of the success they had there. We just have to be patient and let TD and coach Smith do what they. Falcon Nation is in good hands folks! So, everybody just sit back and enjoy the ride.

TD said that he was gonna get an exotic player this draft on a radio interview with 790 the zone. Percy harvin, dez bryant like.
I hope he does we need some points on the board and some excitement.

D. Orlando: Might be a bit much to ask but can you and your crackerjack research team find out and share the names of the players drafted over the last, say, 3 or 5 years with the 27th, 59th, 91st, 124th, and 158th pick?

The Falcons NEED a running back with speed, Jerious Norwood, is not the guy. They also need a DE and a cornerback who knows what an interception is! The better and TOUGHER gets the better Jenkins will become!

Can we get somebody who looks promising and then take a sledgehammer to his knee and foot? At least we’d be certain who would be on IR most of the year.

Who in the world really thinks the falcons will get AJ?? Only a blind an deaf person would claim something like that. The falcons have 0 shot at this guy and would have to give up the world to get him! We have capable guys at WR and need DEFENSE! We must improve at CB, LB and up front on the DL. Until we improve on defense, teams like packers will roast us in the postseason and it appears the packers are here to stay at the top for awhile! Most teams will likely have to go through the frozen tundra to get to the super bowl in the future.

Thanks Birrrrd Man (I think, lol) for reminding us of last year’s draft. A few good ones, a few “project” players, and a few who hardly played a down. Hope this year is BETTER!!!

There have been some productive picks at 27. I’m sure TD will get us a nice addition to the team. CB seems to be a valuable pick at this spot.

Try nfl.com or google dude. You’re pretty darn lazy there buddy. That info is pretty easy to come by, which is why DLED will probably avoid respoding to your ignant comment.

These draft pick will make up almost a quarter of the roster. We can fill out the rest with undrafted free agent and folk cut last year. Then, we start camp as usual and have the season. Sure it wont be as exiting without Ochocinco and Moss, but it still be football.

Sara, right on girl. Norwood gave us 2 games in 10′, 10 in 09′, 16 in 08′, 15 in 07′, 14 in 06′.
We need more durability with the speed back.

3 7th round picks don’t count D.O.L. ;)

March 30th, 2011

Dont be so quick to discount 7th round picks. In the last three drafts, players that have been taken between 209 – 228 (2010 – Cody Grimm, Marc Mariani, 2009 – Bernard Scott, Captain Munnerlynn, 2008 – Stevie Johnson, Chaz Schilens, Peyton Hillis). And players that have been drafted after 228 or were UDFA (2010 – Danario Alexander, LeGarrette Blount, Chris Ivory, Ryan Succop, Arian Foster, Justin Forsett, Davone Bess, Dan Carpenter, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, Mike Tolbert). Other than Foster and Carpenter, there are no Pro Bowlers, but every single player is a contributer to their team, and would all no doubt be welcomed in Flowery Branch.

March 30th, 2011
10:47 am

Sorry, I forgot to seperate the players that went after the 228th pick by year, so, heres the corrected version (2010 – Danario Alexander, LeGarrette Blount, Chris Ivory; 2009 – Ryan Succop, Arian Foster; 2008 – Forsett, Davone Bess, Dan Carpenter, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, Mike Tolbert)

March 30th, 2011

Look for the Falcons (Dirty Birds) to make a trade for a pick between rounds two and five. The trade will probably involve a player: Norwood, Jenkins, or some one minor to get a pick in return with in the: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

Falcons relax...

March 30th, 2011
12:11 pm

Yeah, there are players who were undrafted or 7th and 6th round players who are making big time contributions to their teams. Having those picks make me feel good about the draft. But I know TD knows what hes doing. I think that we will either trade back or sit there and wait on pouncey. I want pouncey . “NEEDS” before the “WANTS.”

I’d package those late round picks to move up…I’d love to package 3 of my 5 picks in rounds 5/6/7 to get 1 pick in round 3.

The draft experts that are making decisions on this blog are sure to be coming from some back ground other than football unless its Pee Wee’s, you have no idea what it takes to be sucessful so why don’t you leave it to the guys that are and have been over the past three years (T.D. and Smitty along with their scouts), so will you please go away,, far away.

I wouldn’t be so thrilled if the Falcons draft a fast wide receiver with their first round pick. After all, we don’t have a strong armed quarterback to throw deep with any velocity on it. There is more to the story of not having a deep threat the last two years as Ryan flat out can’t throw deep with accuracy or velocity. Heck, check out the Green Bay game in playoffs, Jenkins wide open down the side-line and Ryan underthrows and floats a 30 yard pass for an interception. Coach Smith talks about explosive game changing plays, that play basically took us out of the game. I say Ryan is one of the best short to medium routes in the game today, but don’t think he is going to be a great strong armed QB, just isn’t going to happen cause he has to throw on timing routes and can’t drill it in there like Rodgers, Flacco, Rivers etc can. Therefore, the Falcons should spend their first or second round pick on a elusive after the catch receiver to play in the slot position, Douglas isn’t the answer either. Then draft a fast halfback type running back who can turn the outside corner, and bust open the quick draw plays to keep defenses honest. In the later rounds find a fast TE who can catch, and a fast wide receiver to develop and play special teams and spot situations when Falcons are behind in the game. The rest of the draft picks use for the defense, best player available.

Opinions, opinions, opinions all these ’supposed’ experts giving their unsolicited opinions as to what the Falcons’ needs are and who should be drafted. The truth be known that NONE of the opinions expressed here will even be read by the people in the war room at Falcons HQ’s much less considered and acted upon. But as they say opinions are like a__holes, everybody has got one.

No!!! DO NOT get a CB in the first round…. Why? How many CB’s have we taken in years before and what exactly did they accomplish???? Nothing!!!! No, it’s not because of their overall skills, they actually had potential…but its worthless taking an A+ CB with a D- Defensive Line, the secondary will get BURNT everytime!!!! Get some pass rushers, then talk about getting some CB’s….

If Roddy White has to wait on Matt Ryan’s passes how in the hell is Matt going to get the ball to a top speed WR? Lets face it, Matt Ryan is a dink & donk QB and if the Falcons want to be successful they to get a WR that can run after the catch and speedy RB that can catch.
