Bucky Brooks impressed by Cam Newton at private workout

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, of Westlake High, and Georgia’s A.J. Green will be the local players with the highest profiles at the NFL scouting combine.

Newton had a private media workout in California on Thursday.

“He was really good,” NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks said. “He was phenomenal. When you talk about form a pure talent perspective, it’s hard to find people at talented as he is at that position.”

Brooks, a former second round pick by the Buffalo Bills, was a regional scout for Carolina and Seattle. Here’s his video from the NFL Network.

“Big presence, big guy,” Brooks said. “Very athletic. Graceful in his movements. Strong arm. He can make all of the throws with little effort.”

For some reason, Mike Mayock compared Newton’s workout to a similar workout by LSU’s JaMarcus Russell, where he looked special. I believe the point was that these workouts can be misleading.

If teams think like Mayock on Newton, he’ll have to convince them that he has a good work ethic, the ability to lead and is smart enough to pick up an NFL offense. (Those were Russell’s NFL failure’s in a nutshell).

DIRTY DAWG,

Obviously you have been listening to too much of the toothless idiots on the Finebaum Network.
1) The FBI is not interested in college athletics. Also the Bammers have been promising a bombshell every week for the last three months.

2) Also please refer to Chris Low of ESPN who has been interviewed on several radio talk shows recently saying,” The NCAA is through with Cam Newton and Auburn does not have any problems with the NCAA. Another school in the SEC has a problem.”

Sorry but losers always complain that winners cheat.

dawgfan, the SEC had 6 teams in the final Top 25 at the end of the 2010 season and 3 of those teams were in the Top 10. That ties the 2006 season as THE BEST SEASON FOR THE SEC in the last decade.

So, once again, a dawgie doesn’t know what the heck he’s talking about and removes all doubt by opening his mouth and displaying his ignorance.

Oh, and I’ll believe NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon about Cam Newton way before I’ll believe a bunch of embittered, envious, sore-loser dawgie fans.

Not that I needed convincing. I saw the kid play every game on the field this year. My kid (current student at Auburn) met Cam off the field. So I have first hand experience about how good this kid is on AND off the field.

Keep on spewing your ignorance, dawgies. Its fun to read.

Touchy touchy aren’t we Barner? I am well aware of what the rankings say and I could give two flying craps. I watched SEC football with my own eyes this year and can make up my own mind about it. The entire SEC East was an unmitigated disaster. LSU was overrated and had no offense. We saw what happened to Arkansas against Ohio State of all teams. Alabama was good but not great. Auburn had a much easier path to the BCS title than other SEC teams before it. Call me jealous. Call me a “dawgie.” Call me whatever the hell you like Barner. That’s my opinion and your crybaby Barner attitude isn’t going to change it. Good day.

What a typical thug? His OWN workout? His dad must be the biggest moron ever. I hope he is a bust in the NFL. I am surprised he has not been to jail yet.

Funny how Larry never commented again after it was pointed out that the great Brett Farve scored a 13 on the infamous Wonderlic test.

why does everyone try to come down on black qb’s and gives Ryan a pass. What has he accomplished to make people think he’s such a great qb? Is he a great passer; no! has a great arm; no! a great runner; no! a great winner; reg season! best player on team; no! playoff winning qb; no! winner in college; no! Heismann winner no! take over a game on his own; no! single most reason falcons lost to packers; yes! walk on water; only in the eyes of his fans!

Imo…, it all depends on what kind of questions are asked on the wonderlic test. they may have no reference to how qb thinks or performs on the field of play but instead may ask questions such as when was Einstein born, or how many pictures did Van Gogh paint, etc. etc.

I took the Wonderlic test the other day. Scored a thirty five . I still did not get the crappy as* job I was applying for! My Dad is a LSU alum and watched a lot of JaMarcus in college. I knew He would never be an NFL Quarterback. He put too much air under the ball and you can not do that in the NFL. The NFL is on such another level that you cannot effectively predict who is going to be a good NFL quarterback. If you can have ten years in the league as a starter, that is a good career

Once Cam Newton tastes the money his motivation will fall off a cliff.

He has played the system his entire college career. One year at Florida or they say it was a year. Got into trouble. We do not know if he even went to class his freshman semester. Went to a JC for one year. Did he go to class, what credits if any were transferred? On to Auburn for one semester and to play one season. I bet you he did not complete the semester. Then the NFL.

He has played the system, Florida, the JC, and Auburn. He found a way around 3 years and out with ONE year and out of three different programs.

Its amazing to me to see how many people believe this guy cannot play QB. Tell me what has Gilbert or dilbert, what ever the guys name is from Louisville done??? Many of us including me has not heard of the cat, WHY becuase Louisville has been irrelevant along with that QB. The pundits ranted and raved about Locker and the truth finally came out this year. Locker has suspect decisions at QB and makes bad throws plus he could not beat the good teams. Judgment will be out on Luck since he returned to school yet and still Newton has done something none of those guys have done. He took a school in one year to the National Championship while literally carrying the team in a few games. And i agree with Desmond Howard about Phil Simms son being the 3rd worst QB in the SEC but he will get drafted because his dad played in the league just like Carson Palmers sorry brother!

Cam Newton was an excellent college QB. He should be judged on his skill sets and accomplishments and not on what someone else did or did not do.
I am an Atlanta Falcon fan and I hope Carolina pass on Cam because I do not want to face him two times each year. It bad enough that we have to face Drew Brees and Josh Freeman twice. By the way, why no one compared him to Josh Freeman? Just asking!

Cam N. may not be the #1 draft pick. Fact is he may still be around when the Falcons pick. If the Falcons have any kind of way to get Newton they better do it for the sake of having a championship team. That oughta lite ‘em up!

Cam Netwon is a winner, and has a strong heart. When he was under diversity he stayed calm and cool in the process. In my eyes that is a quarterback, you have to have tough skin to play in the NFL. We you see quarterbacks in the media lose their mind, because some bonehead news reporter say something crazy that is character issues. Jamarcus Russell didn’t have any work ethic, and got that money and became lazy. Vince Young is a kid and need to stay out of the nudity bars and learn how to control his emotions or he will be picking trash until he die. I tell you, that money runs out of your hands quick, Russell and Vince will be running back crying to the NFL. Cam Newton is nothing like Russell or Vince Young and anybody that pass him up in the NFL daft is a fool. Time will tell, and I enjoyed watching Cam in college and I hope he can win in the NFL.

The falcons should trade up and try and get Cam—he’s the real deal. Ryan can’t win big games—they should consider trading him and another pick to get Cam in the top 10 of the draft.
