INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Valley State’s Ricardo Lockette came up a little short of his goal of breaking the NFL scouting combine record in the 40-yard dash.
The fleet wide receiver, who met with the Falcons on Friday night, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds. That’s blazing speed for a 6-foot-2, 211 pound receiver. The record of 4.24 is held by Chris Johnson and Rondel Melendez.
Lockette was tied for the top time in the wide receiver group with Edmond Gates from Abilene Christian.
Lockette, of Albany Monroe High, was an NCAA national champion in the 200 meters and a three-time all-American.
Lockette had 23 catches for 262 yards. He averaged 11.4 yards per catch and caught on touchdown.
