Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster, the league announced on Monday.

Grimes will replace Green Bay Packers cornerback Charles Woodson, who’s team advanced to the Super Bowl XLV.

Grimes will become the ninth member from Atlanta in the game. He joins teammates defensive end John Abraham, tackle Tyson Clabo,  tight end Tony Gonzalez, fullback Ovie Mughelli, quarterback Matt Ryan, running back Michael Turner, wide receiver/special team specialist Eric Weems and wide receiver Roddy White in Hawaii on January 30, 2011.

The nine players by one team is a league-high and a franchise record.

In 2010, Grimes was targeted a league-high 119 times by opponents (according to STATS, Inc.) Grimes answered the challenge, posting an NFC-best and a franchise record 23 passes defensed to go with his five interceptions.

Good for him, he deserves it. More PD’s than any other player in the entire NFL with virtually 0 pass rush, never having a height advantage and despite the pay disparity was the best cornerback on his team. I think he also had 6 INT’s this year with several calls overturned that could have led to more.

It’s not the fault of Brent Grimes we weren’t able to get enough out of the Defensive End opposite of John Abraham, and the Outside linebackers weren’t good enough.

Brent Grimes has gotten a well deserved pro bowl nod INDEED. He played tough smart football and made those qbs pay for picking on him. But to get a little of topic, for all those Dunta Robinson haters out there he is a MAJOR reason number 20 was targeted….HELLO people!! Another thing you D. Rob haters have forgotten is that we play OFF man in the secondary and his strenngth has always been man to man bump and run coverage, his whole philosphy changed when he bacame a Falcon, and he had to adjust. Training camp and preaseason notwithstanding its gotta be a tough adjustment. Get off his back Geesh. As for Mr. Grimes he should be MORE of a role model for anyone who was ever told the didnt have what it takes to make it in anything because of height, weight, gender, color, age,or sexual orentation. All things are achived through hard work and he is the living example of it. GOOD JOB GRIMES!!

This guy played ball this year. He got better every week and competed on every play that involved him.

Been thinking about the Falcons for the past few days. An amazing year for this squad. However, big games exposed the Falcons weaknesses. Therefore, a few changes are necessary:

(1) Mike Smith is a helluva head coach. However, he may have a staff of yes men that are not able to gameplan for big games. “Magic” Mike is unimaginative and boring. Van Gorder was wayyy over his head against Green Bay, Eagles and Saints (twice). Maybe its personnel on defense…however, there is no excuse on offense. No deep passes, no screens to Snelling, no use of #14. the Magic man needs to improve.

(2) Matt Ryan. This may relate to number (1). Because he was babied and protected during the year, he failed miserbly in big games. Mike Smith and Mularkey…take the cuffs off this guy. Either he can perform or not. Get him 2 other WR threats (rid yourself of Jenkins #12), and allow him to get comfortable throwing the ball down the field. PLEASE. Give Douglas one more year and throw it around. Our passes of 20 yards or more is in the bottom quarter of the leage. No big plays…which leades to another issue.

(3) Michael Turner. Had a good year, but needs a compliment. You run a guy like Turner 25 times a game so that you can play action and throw the ball OVER THEIR HEADS. Mularkey, either you never called it or RYAN was too scared to throw it. Whateva the case, you cant rely on Turner when you dont ever throw it deep…Good defenses (Eagles, Saints, Packers) identify this and could care less about backing up. The leads to little room for the Burner or anyone else to get loose.

(4) The Defense. We need a BIG INTERIOR DEFENSIVE LINEMAN. This would change the pass rush. Babs, Peters, Abe, etc. would all be better is we had a Vince Wolfolk type guy pushing people around. Second, the Birds have made good use of #53’s talents for a couple of years. However, its over. Get a young outside linebacker that can cover to complement Lofton and #56. Third, Van Gorder must do a better job of coaching. Falcons send the same blitzes, from the same places…the disguises are pitiful and the tackling of the QB is horrid. Coach ‘em up or move out of the way. You can catch on defense all the time…you have to play moving forward to control games.

(5). While I don’t necessary root for the Jets, I can appreciate their passion. they actually want to win and are not bashful about letting you know that. What is the Falcons personality? What is the passion? Who actually cares? After the loss there was no finger pointing or anger. Just acceptance. Who is the team’s core of leaders? Who gets in players behinds when they mess up? Its not Ryan. Its not Abe. Its not Roddy White. Falcons need to rise up…but also need an identity. Who are they?

13-3 is no reason to burn the barn…but the big playoff loss, and the loss to the Eagles were particularly difficult. Falcons need players with the attitude to SHOW UP IN BIG GAMES.

@ Cornerback smurf

You’re a fool to trade away BG dude single handly won us a few games this season alone with key interceptions that’s foolish man.

I think Dunta Robinson will be fine can’t expect him to adjust in one season he’s been playing awhile in Texas so I’ll give him about another season and a half to show us who he truly is.

@ frederick douglas man you spoke the truth. Agreed with 99.9 % of everything you said. lol! @ Ray….cornerback smurf has a point. Im happy for grimes, but I don’t think falcon fans understand this is a gift and a curse problem. We had Dominique foxworht who was a 3rd rounder who got 1 INT with us, left in free agency and got a 5 year/35 mil deal. GRIMES HAS GOT 11 PICKS AND 36 PASSES DEFENDED IN THE LAST 2 SEASONS. Grimes was a undrafted free agent. Grimes and his agent will want 35-40 mil MININUM. This is the problem, the solution is that you can choose to let grimes walk in free agency, more than likely get a 3rd compensation, bump the contract up to 5 to 10 mil AND GOT SIGN NNAMDI. Then give Franks, 5th round steal, a shot at NB. SO Im happy for grimes, BUT NOW THE FRONT OFFICE HAS DECISIONS TO MAKE ABOUT WHETHER THEY’RE GOING TO PAY GRIMES NOW….

@fed douglas Well said….you hit the nail with the hammer. These are elephants in the room no one seems to want to look it. Its ironic you said something about the Birds’ identity. Ive read 3 since the loss that say we dont have one. I agree with them all. There have to be some changes made if the Falcons want to take it to that next level and it starts internally.
