Jose Valdez was in attendance at Kanoheda Elementary School in Lawrenceville as part of the Falcons First Down for Fitness Program and in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in Sept. 2009

The Falcons signed seven of their practice squad players to reserve/future contracts on Tuesday.

They signed tight end Marquez Branson, center Rob Bruggeman, wide receiver Tim Buckley, wide receiver Brandyn Harvey, defensive end Emmanuel Stephens, wide receiver Andy Strickland and guard Jose Valdez.

The big name in this group is Valdez, who’s been developing nicely according to offensive line coach Paul Boudreau. After two full seasons on the practice squad, he’s expected to make a strong roster bid next season.

Three of the Falcons starting offensive linemen – Justin Blalock, Harvey Dahl and Tyson Clabo –  are in the final year of their contracts. Depending on the labor negotiations, they all could  be free agents of some classification.

Branson and Harvey were the only players that were not on the practice squad for the entire season.  Branson was signed on October 28 and Harvey was signed on December 29.

Wow, after one or two very bad games people want to can the team and start over. Well let me give it to you in Dollars and cents. This team this year has produced a very large profit for it’s owner. Increased exposure, ratings and revenue. So as an owner would you Fire everyone and start over? No you would get back to the round table and make the needed changes to make it more profitable. Knee jerk reactions will wind us up like the Redskins.

Trading a franchise qb who had two BAD games all season, for a guy that might not even be in the league in 3 years!

If we trade Tyger for a 7th round pick, they will still ask for more

Tyger leave the crack alone pls. Wee all are disappointed and I am not crazy about MATTY MELT DOWN but he is better than most. We need to go after the DB in Oakland. hope that we can find a younger pass rusher wich will be really hard because they don’t grow on trees. Mike Smith needs to make sure Malarkey is more agressive if Ryan is up to it. Must address the OL are we really will have issues next year.

Yea @don’t get Cam…you are probably right about that color thing…that’s because they are hu-man (or hued men)…meaning aspect/color or (as you suggetsed) character……so yea, you’re probably right. Those guys do have character (issues).

What character issues does Ryan have? How many games did Ryan lose this season? How many games has the lost since a rookie in Atlanta? Everyone needs to give Matt a break.

Secondly we need a TE, DB, or DE. I dont think they will have a big name signing this year so we need to get a play maker in the draft. Not pick according to needs necessarily. We have missed out on to many huge names because of this.

Don’t Get Cam is an ignorant twit. QBs of all colors have issues. Big Ben for instance has a huge issue that was brought to light. Philp Rivers is another one that you have to keep close tabs on. So there are examples on both sides.

Matt Ryan did not play defense in this game. As a matter of fact, he evened out. He had one touchdown and one pick six. The defense allowed 41 points while Matt was on the side lines. To blame this loss on anyone is sheer lunacy. There was not one player on this team who played to win that game. They had the worst game in three years. This team is being built the right way and will be back. We lost to a superior team. Now is the time to get serious about free agency and the draft. This is a process. It took the Steelers 6yrs to win their first SB after drafting Joe Green in 1969. The pieces had to be properly put together. This team will have its day.

Matt Ryan is good enough is you give him protection; running backs are good enough if they have holes. Therefore, need top notch offensive lineman either through free agency or packaging a couple of draft choices. Need a real good nickle CB too.

We as fans need to stop being okay with mediocrity. What happened Saturday night was not a “Aw man, we were so close”, it was a “Why are we 13-3″. We are the laughing stock of the NFL. The Saints did what we couldn’t with the same type of schedule and team structure. I am so tired of “The Process”, “Rebuilding Years”, as I am sure everyone else is. It was a debacle, but a symbol that we as fans need to DEMAND more. This couldn’t have happened in Pittsburgh, Green Bay, or even New England. Matt Ryan has had three years to get it done. Ben Rothleisburger, Eli Manning, and it looks like Mark Sanchez could get it done in two. Those fans are not standing for it. I am seeing that people here are okay with what happened, okay well next year…..What is going on??? What is up with us not being okay with this and demanding more. We as season ticket holder, game attendees, or even Sunday watchers support this team and we can’t even get by the Packers in our own Dome…the Super Bowl on a platter. I don’t get it. And quite frankly, I am tired of the excuses. Maybe Mike Smith isn’t the coach to take us there, maybe Matt Ryan needs to take a seat…who knows. But there needs to be some sort of accountability. I am tired of the whole…okay we made it to the playoffs….what about taking it all?

What a year boyz…went to my first ATL home games and playoff game…its too bad it didnt last longer…all in all it was a good year and with some depth at o-line and a quality pass rusher or two would minimize the effect if we didnt get another top DB either by draft or FA. As for TE, you can always find a decent one in the mid to late rounds…BUT DO NOT TRADE RYAN….R u guys kidding, to judge his abilities based on the current offensive scheme is crazy…Open up the passing game next year and then lets talk about it.

Ryan is mediocre, stop making excuses for him. Sanchez has won four road playoff games and he is only a 56% passer but it does not matter. Ryan is the stat king 33 regular season wins zero playoff wins in two games falcons were favorite. The process is 45 years old. Tell Dimitroff in Business results matter, not slogans. This team has not shown any of his favorite buzzwords like Urgency!! How about Conservatism and Passive these two words best describe Mike Smith and Thomas Dimitroff’s Philosophy and Scheme. Dimitroff you are not in New England and Smith certainly is not Belicheater!!

Wow, the haters are out in force. The fact is that we did have a good season, and yes, it was done with smoke and mirrors. For the record, Sanchez hasn’t won anything; he has a top five defense playing on the other side of the ball. As does Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Green Bay for that matter. As for our offensive scheme; it flat out blows chunks. I believe a run game is great and all but you have got to be able to stretch the field at any given moment; we couldn’t.
Defensively (in the playoff game specifically), I saw time and again where a player was in the perfect position to stop a play cold or at least make a tackle but that didn’t happen. Coaches do not make tackles. Coaches do not cover receivers (nor did C. Owens).
Sure we took it on the chin and unfortunately we fans have become used to that. This is why true fans love the team but do not trash-talk.
Have any of you haters ever won an NFL playoff game? Ever played in an NFL playoff game?
Are the New England fans calling for the heads of their team to roll? Suggesting that they should blow the whole thing up? Didn’t think so…
Grow up already….Sheesh!
