FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons wide receiver Roddy White apologized to the fans via his twitter.com account on Sunday.

He wrote, “I want to apologize to all the falcon fans for our horrible performance last night it was not good and I’m sorry”

White turned in one of the best season in NFL history.

He led the league with 115 catches and set a new franchise mark for most catches in a season.

But after the game, he was terribly disappointed.

“You always think about your legacy and you’re judged by what you do in the postseason,” said White, who caught six passes for 57 yards. “I haven’t done anything yet. So we have to prepare ourselves for next year.”

The four turnovers jolted the offense out of sync.

“They came up with crucial turnovers when they needed them and they kept us out of the end zone,” White said. “After they got ahead, they kind of came after us a little bit. They blitzed us. We really couldn’t do anything. We had to throw the ball in the flats and things like that”

It’s not Roddy’s fault; The Atlanta Falcons just have one of those 100-year-old “Boston-Red-Sox’s-Style” curses on it, lol.

Roddy I’ve seen you improve so much over the past few years. We’re headed in the right direction. The loss was a team effort. Let’s put it behind us and move on. It’s time to start working towards next season.

Roddy, please talk to organization. GO GET T.O. OR RANDY MOSS. With you on one side and T.O or Randy on the other, this will create a mismatch for any Defense and open up the runnning game. Atlanta also needs to add in more screen plays and mabe two or three trick plays. Look at New Orleans, when they did onside kick. I love you Falcons and had great year. I look forward to supporting each and everyone of you next year.

The Falcons need to play real football. You got to go down field with your passes in order to loosen up the defense. Short passes and shorter runs only allow the other team to load the box with eleven men- no defensive play more than ten yards down field. The short pass only means no separation from the defender. Why are the falcon receivers forced to catch almost ever pass with a D-back all over them. Bad pass routes and no guts by the coaching staff. Even Auburn knew to make deep passes of 20 yards or more–just the threat opens up the run. Turner is just a fullback playing out of position. Coaching staff—-NO GUTS–JUST FAILURE WITH A PAY CHECK.

Mr. White,

You don’t have anything to apologize for because you earned your salary and gave all you had all season long. I think the organization owes you an apology for not getting you quality help at the receiving corp(s). You have shoulder the workload and the other receivers most the most have not stepped up consistenly.

I like Mr. Jenkins but he is a back-up receiver and would be terrific in spots .. but doesn’t have the speed to seperate from the defenders on a consistent basis. You need a Vincent Jackson, Eddie Royal, Calvin Johnson type of receiver to play opposite you and compliments your abilities.

Hold your head high and thanks for all you accomplished. I am a long time Georgia fan(60’s) and have seen a lot of Falcon receivers and you rank as one of the best ever.

Thanks

Next year will be another losing year for the ATL. NO will be back with a vengeance, and TB will be improved. ATL will backslide. The old TE will retire, and Cryin Ryan has been x-posed as a playoff choker. Plus, all those breaks they got last year, well, that was last year. Finally, the cat needs to lick off that cheesy moustache off Blanket’s face. The national pundits were 100% correct about the overrated ATL. Get it? No super bowl for Atlanta. Not now. Not ever. Deal with it.

I am 41 years old. I have been a fan since I was eight years old and my Dad would explain to me what was going on. I watched him throw our grill off the deck when the Falcons lost to the Cowboys in the 80’s! I thought of doing the same Saturday night. It is absolutely heart breaking.

iF YOU THINK THIS ROUT WAS TOUGH FOR THE PLAYERS TO HANDLE, JUST THINK OF THE FAN WHO POURS HIS/HER HEART AND SOUL INTO THE FALCONS. THE FAN THAT HAD TO WATCH THE GAME ON TV BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT AFFORD THE HIGH TICKET PRICES ARE THE ONES THAT SUFFERED THE MOST. MOST OF THEM DON’T GET THOSE HUGE PAYCHECKS LIKE THE PLAYERS AND ARTHUR BLANK. THE POUR THEIR HEART AND SOUL INTO EVERY PLAY, EVERY WIN AND EVERY LOSE. SPEND A LITTLE MONEY ON BETTER SCOUTS AND BETTER COACHES–OFFENSIVE COORD AND DEFENSIVE COORD. DON’T CONTINUE TO SETTLE FOR THE AVERAGE. DEFENSE WINS GAMES. OFFENSE MAKES IT HAPPEN. BUT, IF YOU DON’T STOP THE OTHER TEAM WITH DEFENSE YOU WILL NEVER WIN THE REALLY BIG GAME. LOOK AT THE FILM S MR B. THE DEFENSE DID NOTHING SUPER ALL YEAR. JUST ENOUGH TO WIN A FEW GAMES YOU SHOULD HAVE LOSS.

People, we have to hold our heads high because we know the media expects us to hang them. Three years ago our team was in shambles and even the bravest fans were scared to come out and admit they like the Falcons. In three years we became a team that the words ‘Super Bowl’ actually became correlated with. This is a young francise in terms of success. Eyes to the sky! Next year will be better.

I have no doubt that Roddy White and all of the players were very disappointed with the performance Saturday night, just as Coach Mike Smith said in his post-game press conference and again yesterday.

I never cease to be amazed by the bandwagon fans and the self-proclaimed “fans” who want to do nothing but criticize. Saturday night wasn’t good at all, but people need to look at the big picture.

Since the arrival of Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith prior to 2008, this team has posted three consecutive winning seasons (11-6, 9-7 and 13-4). By contrast, from 1999 to 2007, the team posted a losing record in six of those nine seasons.

In two of the three years, they’ve made the playoffs (2008 and 2010); this is only the third time in the franchise’s history that they’ve been to the playoffs two out of three years.

In two of the three years, Mike Smith has been named NFL Coach of the Year.

Critics of Matt Ryan? In case you missed it, he tied Dan Marino for most wins in his first three years as a NFL starter with 33. Yes, that’s regular-season games – but it’s still impressive. Ryan is a solid quarterback, and he will continue to get better.

I am convinced that this organization is built for the long haul, and the team will continue to improve. They have improved every year since Coach Smith arrived. There’s no reason to believe that the improvement won’t continue.

Too many people get caught up in what the media says. Some media members said Saturday night’s loss made the entire season a failure; those same people, ironically, said nothing about the Patriots, the AFC’s #1 seed, losing to the #6 seed Jets yesterday. As opposed to the Falcons, the Patriots were picked to win their division in the pre-season and were a Super Bowl favorite.

So, folks can jump off the bandwagon all they want. The false “fans” can continue to call in to talk shows with their absurd complaints and post them on these forums with their cute, fake names. Fans of this organization who have been with the team 10, 15, 20 years or more have long since learned to ignore them and the media critics.

in a town so full of haters it doesn’t surprise me the way our teams seem to revert to cave man status on the biggest stages. It is staggering how many people in Ga. get off on seeing Atlanta lose. It’s like they’re scared of going with the flock because the butcher is waiting on the other side of the door. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE DIFFERENT! If celebrating when teams that represent the city or state you live in lose is the only way you have to noticed, maybe you should take guitar lessons or something….Mr. Blank, SIGN CALVIN JOHNSON, TRADE MICHAEL TURNER FOR SOME DRAFT PICKS, DRAFT MARK INGRAM, FIND SOME UGLY, SMELLY, VIOLENT BEAST TO PUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DEFENSIVE LINE, REBUILD THE SECONDARY, AND FIND A DOMINATING MIDDLE LINEBACKER THAT CAN RUN THE DEFENSE AND HOLD THE OTHER GUYS ACCOUNTABLE…and yes i am available if you need to shake up the front office…

In Life in any capacity…we are only as strong as are weakest link. A sports franchise is a reflection of its fans. Not the shirt wearers, but the true fans, for it is the true fans that grieve for this season as if we lost a close friend or relative. For we know we squandered a #1 seed and how rare it is for us to be in the situation we were. Nevertheless, we must rise…just as our city rose from Ashes after it was burned. In the causal link-we must REMAIN STRONG & VIGILANT & ADDRESS THE ISSUES THAT WERE EXPOSED. WE ALL KNOW WHAT THEY WERE…The point is…Anyone can celebrate a victory…but a true testament to your character is how you deal with adversity…it doesn’t get any more adverse than this….trust me…Im a grown man with an Atlanta Falcons bed spread…and I will not change my sheets…just as I won’t change who I am…FALCON IV LIFE & SO IT IS & SO IT SHALL BE….as Maya said & STILL I RISE…so TRUE FANS…RISE WITH ME

As much as it is going to hurt – please don’t bring in a bunch of has been (TO and RMOSS) – the team has finally turned the corner – use the draft, get those guys out of free agency that fit the mold of the organization and don’t bring in anymore trash.

As hard as Saturday night was to sit through and watch – the team is doing it right – it will take some time, I want them to be consistently in the hunt, not a 8 or 10 year cycle of making a run at it. We’re almost there – don’t mess it up with cancers from other teams. Use the draft and work long term to wanting folks to STAY with us instead of bolting when stardom hits!

Great season – bad ending – but anything less than a Super Bowl appearance wouldn’t do any good. I like that way of thinking! It’s been a long time since the Atlanta Falcons are mentioned with the words SUPER BOWL in the same breath. I like that!

A 13-3 record turned the Falcon fans into the most obnoxious fans in the NFL. I am talking bout on the net, the sports bars and even the strangers on the street. You all talked more mess this season than the Steelers & they have 6 rings. All the whinning football fans had to deal with from Atl

National media doesn’t recongnize us
NFL channel show us no love
No one pick us to go all the way
media is not giving our defense their props….blah blah blah

There were too many close games that the Falcons should have lost and their were too many close games the Packers should have won. The big difference is the Packers went their entire season without their pro bowl tight end & their running back.

How far would the Falcons have gone without Turner & Gonzalez??? Bottom line is the Packers is a much better team and national professionals recognized the obvious.

There are some things we have to fix. Number 1: the secondary has only been good over the last two years when Brian Williams has been in there. Sorry Demitroff but your draft choices in the secondary have not panned out. Please go out and get a real corner. On offense we need to upgrade at receiver and we have needed to upgrade at receiver for several years and guess what Harry Douglas is not the answer. Roddy,
Let’s be honest, you are not the one who should be apologizing, the defense, Matt Ryan, the Coaching Staff are the one’s who need to apologize. I agree with Falcon Fan, the whole ” Wait till next year” talk is really getting old, in fact, it was really old about twenty years ago. While I (along with others) continue to be upset about Saturday night’s game, we can only be optimistic and hope that we do not take another ten year plunge after this debacle. It is also very funny how other teams(fans) come here and down the organization, sure we don’t have a pretty rap sheet, but an individual must look at the issue for what it is…
1) We (the city of Atlanta) has lacked professional sports culture because of the foundation(losing culture) that has been built into our organization by so many previously and current owners here…i.e. The Atlanta Spirit Group, Rankin Smith…Not trying to make excuses, just state facts, organizations such as green bay packers will always have a great tradition of winning because there isn’t anything to do there but demand that the owners develop a winning team….
2) We need a ‘Beastly’ mentality, as Fans we are sometimes too laid back with a classy team, we need (like someone already mentioned) some ugly, massive, mean, cold-hearted players(particularly on defense…the lineman), let’s face it, it all starts at the lines, defense and offense, we have some aggression but we are undersized to a certain degree, especially in the interior defensive line(this might explain why we lack so much pass rush).
3) Jenkins has showed that he can be a great #2 receiver, the biggest problem is that Ryan seemed to overlook him a lot, I like Ryan, I really do, but he must develop more arm strength and stop ‘eying Roddy and Gonzalez’ every critical down, this is what led to that interception for that TD at the end of the first half.
4) We need a speedy, versatile back in the draft, someone like Trent Richardson comes to mind, we need to move Baker to Right Tackle and find a true left Tackle, I thought we had one of the best overall linebacker cores in the league, but we need more speed, not sure what to say about the corners but I thought they were fair overall, I particularly liked Grimes but life is unfair and realistically his height hurts him and hurts the team at times.
5) Last but not least, I already said that the coaching staff needs to be the one’s apologizing, our conservative play calls have worked for most of the season for the most part, but film and recent experiences should have gave us hints that this mentality was only going to work for so long, especially against a team that had previously seen us already once in the season already, why didn’t the game plan consist of more no-huddles? Why not have an offensive game plan similar to the one that they had had against Baltimore? Everyone(literally) knew what was coming, we showed that we were going to attempt to run it down the packers throats but when that has been talk all week as to being our overall game plan, and we turn around and do exactly just that, it takes away any element of surprise. We need to spread the field out better and incorporate more screen plays, draws, deep routes, etc.
Well, (*sighing*) I guess we will (once again) have to wait and see what happens next year, GO FALCONS!!!!

First time commenter. Here goes.

Not hearing much about the “odd” playoff seedings. Falcons would have been better off being the #2 seed. Should go by records each round if they are going to insist on giving Division winners home games. Still would have had to play Packers at some point, of course.

Need to improve pass rush. Teach linemen to get in passing lanes and at least get hands up to knock passes down (see TCU). Also, blitzers don’t need to try to KILL the QB. The QB is likely going to move at last second so they need to “target” to the side – if QB doesn’t move you will still get him/no ARM tackles.

Offense needs more variety…very predictable. I can “guess” 90% of plays when ball is almost snapped. Should have kicked field goal or thrown long with 10 sec. to go in half!!!

All in all. Good season. A little over-rated, but somebody has to be. Remember not even in playoffs last year. Honestly think the team was REALLY looking forward to a rematch with Saints and not able to get as fired up. Actually never got offensive rhythm v. Pack due to a couple of GOOD things.. long KO Return and short field due to Fumble by Packers earrly. Was good to score, obviously, but didn’t get to set up some things from the playbook for later, plus the Defense was on the Field a long time and they normally are not.

I find it very strange that a so-called defensive background coach, Mike Smith, has had 3 years to build a solid core on that side of the ball. Yet they still play a bend but don’t break type of strategy, look at John Harbaugh & Rex Ryan. 2 good young QBs yet they rely on aggressive defense

We should go get Sidney Rice. He is a free agent and an SEC kid from S.C. so I bet he’d love to leave Limn and come back closer to home. We also need a change of pace RB who is a threat to take it to da house every time he touches the ball.
On D we need another starting DE opposite Abe. We also need CB depth. Mostly the young players we have on D need to get better a mature. An aggressive game plan by B.V.G. like the game he called vs the aints would help as well. I know we wont fire any coordinators after a 13-3 season. Bit if I were T.D. I would let MM go if I could get josh mcdaniels. He is a brilliant innovative offensive mind.

Roddy, you are right to apologize. That was a most pathetic team effort, and all should be blamed from the coaches all the way down to the bench.

What was clear from Saturday night is that 1) our offense isn’t as good as we thought we were, 2) defense was COMPLETELY exposed and needs better impact players (ala Clay M), 3) our DBs are totally overwhelmed by bigger, quicker receivers, 4) on this night, we got out-coached

Lessons learned, anyone? For the 2011-12 campaign, you better bolster the defensive line, get some bigger, more physical DBs, get another game-breaking receiver and drop Jenkins, and improve the game planning. That is the only way the Falcons will get back to the playoffs with any hopes of moving beyond the first round….

D. Orlando Ledbetter, I do not understand. Atlanta can get T.O. for as little or nothing. Really, think about this. T.O. have been great on teams until they D. Cordns. figure to double him and of course this frustrates him. Just like New Orleans and GB did against Turner and R.White. They frustrated them. But if you had threat of T.O. and R. White. Gonzalez and Jenkins in slot ATL will create mismatches for Defenses. Look at New England game. Coach B is better coach, but Jets coach knew he had better Defense. If a team see you twice or on film, you can’t run old school way. Tell me this. When do Falcons run screen plays, toss or reverses..Never. You have to mix it up. Like one of the problems I saw in Turner was he was to close to line when taking he handoff and could not get speed up. He was more concern of losing ball and tipped toed to get through line. Keep Norwood as well. He is that change speed back, but he must not be like MJD, injured prone. Lastly, GO GET T.O.

We don’t want nor need diva’s on our team. We do need some playmakers. The offense needs some attention but our secondary needs some addressing. I am hesitant to call Dunta a bust yet since he may just need some maturing in our defense. If the CBA is negotiated soon or if the NFL decides to play by the 2010 agreement, go out and secure Nnamdi Asomugha. He is a great corner and fits in with they type of guy that Dimitroff/Smith like in regards to character. Sure up the other end of defense end position opposite of Jonathan Abraham. Offense, I agree–move Jenkins to the slot. Is there a Dez Bryant talent in the draft that may fall to us? We are just a few pieces away from true dominance. It is going to be monster getting Jerious Norwood back. We are headed in the right direction and I don’t see us taking a step back.

Ryan’s two picks changed the entire atmosphere of the game. Once down, our defense was exposed. We need more talent and depth on that side of the ball. Owens will be gone.

The first pick was on Jenkins. Rogers threw the same pass to Jones and it was a TD. Of course, Jones didn’t fall down until after he made the catch.

Falcons need 1) more push on the D line. 2) a speed burner at WR. 3) another nickel DB. 4) a speed back to compliment Turner.

IF YOU THINK OUR LOST WAS SO BAD THINK ABOUT WHAT THE JETS DID TO NEW ENGLAND AND IF NOT BADLY MISTAKEN THEY ARE A PROVEN CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER TEAM, we are fighting and learning to be of that caliber, with a solid fan base that understands that on any given Sunday-well enough said, IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND GO PULL FOR SOME OTHER TEAM, NO, TAMPA OR CAROLINA.

…Sidney Rice a free agent? Very intriguing. Regardless of what the new cap is, Blank and McKay have positioned us nicely, financially, to bring in talent that we need, both bit players and playmakers.
To the “support Atlanta unless playing GB”: So your complaint is Falcons fans are proud of our team and wanted everyone to know how wonderful we were? That we wanted our team to be respected? If that is the best you can do, were you ever really supporting Falcons that something so inconsequential would make you turn? And whoever heard of supporting a team because of their fans? I have Saints fans as friends who can’t stand many of their fellow fans because of their obnoxiousness but that isn’t making them support their team any less. Got other GB fans calling me and sending FB messages saying they like how the city is galvanized behind the Falcons even if they were tired of hearing our bravado. That is what being a FAN is about.

Who would have predicted this so soon after the MV debacle? The NFC South is becoming one of the most competitive divisions and the Falcons are hanging tough. I’m pulling for the Packers to take the championship. Any team that beats my Falcons like that MUST be the best team in the NFL.

Roddy thanks for the apology but that showing was terrible by so call “professional football players which the term itself is overrated. I have never in my life seen so many so called professionals display “VERY POOR” techniques when it comes to catching the ball, tackling, etc which is basic things learned on the pop warner level. As a long time falcon fan and season ticket holder I am truely tired of getting all hyped up and let down time after time and players telling the media “we will build on this for next year” and the next thing you know ten years have passed.

Falcons needs: Running backs with speed due to Atlanta really having all full backs that lacks speed; Wr’s with speed to spread the field; pass rushers and someone to give a push up front; real DB’s that can challenge and break up passes; etc. One of the final issues is that the Falcons do not draft well because their picks never pan out or make a good impact on the team. Last year they could have got Dez Bryant but they took Witherspoon who never made a direct impact.

This was a team that could have just as easily been 9-7 as 13-3. And we were matched up with the NFC West this year.

1. Garrett Hartley’s missed 29 yard fg in OT vs NO
2. Nate Clements fumbles interception instead of going to ground, and SF runs out clock.
3. Roddy White offensive pass interference not called on winning TD vs. Baltimore
4. Aaron Rogers fumbles t goal line in 21st GB game.

Though this year was better than last, and with the right improvements made over te off season, this can be an even better team next year.

Biggest needs; (assuming TG comes back)

1. Another WR to take heat of off Roddy White (Plaxico Burress does get out of jail this spring)
2. A solid left tackle, Sam Baker is not the guy, move him inside to guard, too slow.
3. Another speed rush DE to compliment Abraham
4. Another fast LB, Mike Peterson’s better days are behind him
5. An impact safety, who flies around, makes big hits and int’s. Doesn’t have to be Palomalo or Ed Reed, just try to play like they do.
6. If TG does retire, another TE.

Ryan was late on the pick where Jenkins fell down. And, not only late but a lofter under thrown. Yeah, if Jenkins doesn’t fall down maybe it’s not a pick but the ball should have been there earlier and harder.

If you look at the first half, we did not have a problem moving the ball on GB. Of course they didn’t have a problem moving the ball on us either. 3rd and 13 on that first series coming out in the second half killed our defense. After that, the defensive team rolled over. The offense played, but GB could be as aggressive as they wanted on D as they had a 21 point lead.

Shame on all of you 3Q early exits. This is our team and I stayed until the bitter end.

My offseason moves:

Offense:

Speed back (I don’t trust Norwood’s health)
O-line depth
H Douglass (depends on his play 2009 = keep, 2010 = trade)

Defense:

D-Line need someone mean/nasty – a game changer
I have question marks with Jerry and Sidbury
Linebackers – depth and speed
Dbacks – another starter and speed

The difference in this and the other years is this: when the team says they are improving guess what? They actually are. There is no reason that this team after three years should be where they are. Dismal performance. I was as sick as anyone during the game. And yet I have hope because for the 1st time in franchise history (no not the winning records) we are showing growth. As much as I would have liked it, you don’t turn around 40+ years of mismanagement and poor decisions. Our team has played (with the exception of Saturday’s fluke) hard for us the past three years. 13-3 because:
1. We owned NO until a late drive by Brees. Yeah Hartley missed but we still had to go down the field to win.
2. Awesome play by White and Dahl (maybe the best of the season for any team). Again, still needed to go down field.
3. That’s the way wide receivers are taught – too bad the poor Raven fell down.
4. Again, we gave up a 4th and 17 for them to tie the score at the end of the 4th Q. And then a face mask prevent Weems from a TD. 60 minutes baby!

Needs:
1. I like Jenkins – though we need a speed guy – can H Douglas be that again?
2. Agree
3. What’s up with Sidbury?
4. Agree
5. I’d go with another cover corner as our safeties play well
6. Palmer/Peele is a nice combo. always good to get TE depth just ask Reeves..

We knew all year that our defense was suspect so that means we are still in the middle of the “process” that MS and TD have been talking about. I have no doubt we will go out and get the defensive and offensive player’s we need through free-agency and the draft that we need to be even more competitive; all of this Chicken Little talk is nonsense. THIS TEAM WILL REBOUND AND COME BACK EVEN MORE COMPETITIVE!!!!!!

It’s a game folks. And you don’t play it, you just watch. So lighten up. The Falcons had a terrific season, winning more than their share of close games to make the post-season. Right there, they’re better off than the majority of teams in the NFL who didn’t make the post season. As the coach says, ‘It’s a process.’ and I see progress as they work the process. Stay patient and supportive. And try to remember, it’s not you who’s out on the field – it’s the team you root for. Just keep on rooting.

You must really be enjoying your PAID opportunity to rub the Falcons’ season ending loss in the faces of its fans. First you put in a junior college effort to cover the Falcons throughout a 13-3 season and the you write an article about your wonderful trip down “memory lane” in Packer-land. And now you post multiple articles about the Falcons mea culpa tweets. You really are a class-less act.

Too bad Falcons!! Now that was a severe thrashing!! We knew the Falcons and the NFC-South were an awful division, but we didn’t think it was that bad. The cream rises to the top, and you saw it on Saturday. It’s not a bad thing through, getting beat by the future Super Bowl champs. You’ll re-group, you and “Mattie-Ice”, Mr. 22-2 at home, Mr. Come-Back, and what ever else you call the dude. Now you see what it all means when you play a good team, absolutely nothing!!

So what if you go 12 and 4 or 14 and 2, you know and the players know that when the playoff lights go on that they will CHOKE again, but look for this team to win 8 maybe 9 games next year.

The Falcons are still a very young team and the core of the team is still growing together. Add another quality receiver, I believe our D will get better naturally with who we have. We’re right on the edge of an epic team.

Why isn’t Weems running the ball with Turner. He has the moves to gain yards to the outside, and probably can catch those screen plays better than anyone on the team. You just can’t keep running the ball up the middle. So much young talent on this team. It can only get better. Hope the coaching does.

What a year! We had a great season but Saturday night was just awful. It is nice to hear an athlete actually “man up” and accept responsibility for once. We need to realize though that this loss could be the best thing for this team and the process. Lets reign in all those “get rid of’s” and “can his ass’s” and let this debacle show us what we truly need. As for receivers, yes it would be nice to get another speedy receiver. Put Jenkins in the slot so he can use his size. But lets not forget about the kid from Kansas that we lost in the preseason. Mr Meier, although not one of the fastest men on the field, does show some promise as a reliable “possession” receiver. How many years have we been saying that we need another DE to complement Abe? Please AB TD MS whoever, make this happen this year. The need for a “change of pace” back is vital. I always liked to watch Norwood play, but he has proven that he is not durable enough to be counted on for every game. The most glaring need has to be secondary. I think we have some good safeties out there, but we really need more size on the corners. I love to see Grimes play. He is full of heart and athletic ability, but his size does work against him. I think he would make a great nickel back and we should bring in another cover corner to replace him. I have been looking at this guy from Oakland, Nnamdi Asomugha, he looks to be one that could make Mr. Robinson have to earn his paycheck. Not that I don’t like Dunta, I think he is a very solid corner when he plays press coverage, but it won’t make it such an easy decision to throw it to the other side. As for Matt Ryan, I think he could still be one of the best QB’s in the league. The OC must draw up some plays that puts other receivers as the “primary” receivers other than just Roddy and Tony. As for TE, I don’t know if TG will be back next year, but I think we have something solid in that kid named Palmer. Give him some time and he will surprise everyone. Yes I was just as nauseated as everyone else as I watched the game (Yes I saw the last second run off the clock….YUCK!) Saturday, but I think you can either sit back and whine about it or get off your butt and do something about it. My money is on AB TD and MS to do something!

Roddy, I accept your apology man. Kool move on. I would really truly like one from the Coaching staff. Not many peaple realize that the game was in thier hands. True the Packers are a talented group. But Just think, if you were the Coach going into the halftime, would’nt you come out with “some kind of a change of pace?” I mean if the 3 man rush was not working, try something else man. I would have blitz the Hell out of Rogers and make him throw early every time. We have a Pro bowler Gonzalez whom was only thrown to 3 times. What was that coaches? What happened to Muhailey and Snelling? They hardly used them. Often Turner was in the Back by himself. It was easy for them to know he was getting the ball. Man come on! What in Hell were u guys doing for 2 weeks off. We were so close. Any one is Beatable. The Giants proved that in the Superbowl years VS the Undeafeated Patriots. I was going to be in Dallas with u guys man. I hope that the “COACHES” get it together with the right play calling. More trick plays man, more suprising moves. Don’t let any one know what u are up to. Fake a punt when no one expects it, and when not even necessary. Let’s kick as# next year man, this is The playoffs, this is for the SUPER BOWL. Do something “Super” in games like these. Please, Please, Coaches stop the 3 man rush unless u have some real Ninja like, as# kicking, bad boys on that front D line. Mortal kombat type guys man. Those 3 should do the job.
Please be ready, this is for the Gold baby. I forgive u guys man. End the end only 1 team will win. We are not the only ones upset. Life goes on man just count your money and be ready next year.

We just ran into a buzzsaw and didn’t play our best game. We aren’t there yet, but I think we can get there soon. The final 4 teams remaining in the playoffs….GB, Chicago, Pitt, NYJ all have one thing in common…stud defenses. Only one of those 4 teams finished with an offense in the top 10 in total points scored per game (GB was 10th). The Falcons were 5th in scoring offense. Our bend-don’t-break defense was simply exposed. We need to continue focusing on the defense, defense, defense. Go Falcons!

I see a lot of people are not too happy with the offense, so here’s just what I think; if anyone were to come in and could make Atlanta better on offense (and I don’t really want it to happen), maybe a trade for Ocho Cinco. He’s a Roddy White-esque receiver, only with a bigger mouth. He can run all the routes, isn’t afraid of the middle of the field and at this point in his career I’m sure he’d just like to be a winner. He’s also in the last year, or next to last of his current contract.

Blitz Money

January 17th, 2011

As far as defense, I’ve always been surprised why Mike Smith didn’t pursue Rashean Mathis since he coached him in Jacksonville. Since Nnamdi Asomugha is a free agent now, maybe he’d like to play nickel here in Atlanta too. In the draft I’ll predict they’ll be looking for OL(specifically center and right tackle), DE, LB and possibly an RB/WR ‘weapon’ player like Josh Cribbs to possibly replace Jerious Norwood if they decide to part ways with him. Jerious is awesome when he’s healthy, but lately he hasn’t been healthy.

Roddy, you were terrific this year however you are correct that teams are judged by the playoffs not the regular season. Given this, how would you grade your team’s performance overall?

KC

January 18th, 2011
12:07 am

I’d give the Falcons a grade of D. It would be an F if it weren’t for the fact they did perform well in the regular season. But that is like saying I did well in high school then score 500 on the SAT (when you get 400 for signing your name). The Falcons made the playoffs then miserably failed. There is a lot of work to do before they are ready for prime time.

KBofATL

I REJECT Roddy’s apology. Roddy, this is POST SEASON FOOTBALL.

The Falcons, as an organization and team, LACK killer instinct. They refuse to REVAMP that weak defensive secondary or get a real threat as a running back. Yeah, Turner is good, but compared to a premier back, he doesn’t cut it.

Any time they have a standout player, they push the load soley on that player’s shoulders and they wind up leaving. Poor coaching decisions, and the front office is apparently afraid to cut unproductive players like Finneran, Owens, Robinson. We, as fans have celebrated and stood by you with those expensive tickets and hot/cold seasons. I’m not easily getting past this one, Falcons. You won’t get off the hook because for once, YOU OWE YOUR FANS. TWEET THAT RODDY.

Rise Up and leave the stadium when your team needs the support…Where was the loyalty falcants fanssss???

Let me explain it to you one more time.

The Falcons got crushed by the best team in the NFL. The Aints lost to the worst playoff team (besides the Aints) in playoff history.

NO. The Falcons did not go out the same week or the same way the AINTS did.

The Aints had one good year. That is it. There will never be another. Get over it. Everyone else in the world has. This is the 2010-2011 season. Live with it. The Aints went from irrelevant to SB champions to irrelevant in record time.

The fact that you guys live on OUR blog even after you were DESTROYED by a HORRIBLE team tells me that you have NOTHING TO LIVE FOR THERE. You are crabs in a barrel. reliving that one day when you climbed up and peeked over the edge and saw the ocean. Good for you. But Seattle then boiled you alive served you up. And they can’t even cook.

We are looking forward to next year. If you have any intelligence at all, you are living in dread next year.

Oh yeah…and “packalldeway”….I can see that you are a typical NO fan by your screen name. Found a new bandwagon. Good for you. I guess to you it’s better to be a traitor than a loser….LOL

@falCANTS4ever – You’re right. Great city New Orleans. Tell me again why every other person in New Orleans has moved to Atlanta? Sorry but you have NO CREDIBILITY when you are bragging about a city that you LEFT to go to a city that you are supposed to hate? DEAUX!!!!

I am a GREENBAY PACKER FAN!!!! You guys just crack me up because yall came to my blog talking trash about what Atlanta was gonna do to us…And it seems that the Saints seem to get under you guys’ skin so yea, Im giving them respect for their one SB win…They deserve it..You guys deserve nothing because you did nothing….Point Blank!!!

@Deaux…i wasnt talking about the city….i was talking about the TEAM…no matter how you try to rationalize it…ur team has NOT won a SB….as we’ve been beaten in the past, regular season wins only get you to the ’show’…the Saints got there last year with a 13-3 record, home field advantage and made it count….won the SB….ur team…this year a 13-3 regular season record, home field advantage and laid an EGG….so when your team has WON a SB, be proud…until then, say, ‘wait till next year’….falCANTS…

snelling is better than michael turner. i think we should trade turner for a top 5 or top 10 pick and draft aj green. roddy white and aj green would be the beastliest combo ever.

Roddy, its time to put up or shut up. You evidently aren’t as good as you think you are and for the most part the Falcons as a whole stink! What is it going to take for you all to get mad enough to play like a professional NFL team and go further than playoffs? How much is Matt Ryan paid to throw the game? Why didn’t Mike Smith play the big players in the biggest game of the year? Lets become the calibur of a team that sports critics talk about so we can go to superbowl!

Mr White you are a class act and no apology was necessary. There are truly ignorant and classless people out here and a lot of the comments posted proved that point. To them the non-fans who did not support our team or appreciate the beauty of our season, I say get a life and stop being so mean and hateful. Remember, you reap what you sow.

Just like your little playoff game, this site is FULL of fans from other teams…. GOOD GOD ATL is pathetic… WHO DAT and GO PACK…. It must be sickening to have an empty trophy case but hey you guys can go home with a division banner… thats like in little league when they give the last place team a trophy so the kids wont go home crying…… if any of u failcants need a part time job in the offseason you can come clean our trophy. Now go home and get ur fkn SHINE BOX!
