With the game Pro Bowl being played the week before the Super Bowl, the Falcons coaching staff will coach in the NFC squad in the Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
The Falcons had seven players selected for the game and have two first alternate.
Running back Michael Turner, fullback Ovie Mughelli, quarterback Matt Ryan, tight end Tony Gonzalez, wide receiver Roddy White, defensive end John Abraham and special teamer Eric Weems were all selected for the all-star game.
Also, right tackle Tyson Clabo and kicker Matt Bryant are alternates and could go if players in front of them get injured or reach the Super Bowl.

I GUESS WHEN ONE THINKS ABOUT IT, NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME OF THE PLAYOFF GAME, MOST OF THE FALCONS ARE MILLIONAIRES. SO WHAT THE HECK IF YOU LOSE THE GAME?? I MEAN, AT LEAST YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE POOR PEASANTS THAT ARE LIVING PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK AND DECIDED TO BELIEVE IN THE “RISING UP” GARBAGE YOU WERE SELLING AND SPEND A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO COME TO THE GAME AND WATCH YOU FALL FLAT ON YOUR COLLECTIVE MILLIONAIRE BUTTS. BUT IN THE END, YOU ARE STILL MILLIONAIRES AND WELL, THE REST OF US ARE STILL POOR PEASANTS JUST GETTING BY AND TRYING HARD TO BELIEVE THAT YOU REALLY ARE A GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM. ANYWAY, ENJOY YOUR VACATIONS IN HAWAII AS UNDESERVING AS THEY MAY BE.

Hey Dimitroff here’s some names you might want to remember , Nnamdi Asomugha ,Richard Seymour, Vincent Jackson, Ike Taylor, Haloti Ngata & Ray Edwards, because your defense needs a complete overhaul & you are no drafting diamonds in the rough like Belichik! Also you may want to address more speed on offense LoL

Great game.
The only trash talk I will do is to say, which I will say to anyone in the NFC, is that my quarterback is better than yours. No one in the NFC is better than Rodgers. I still don’t know how “Matty Ice” got his nickname. Is that what he puts on his b*lls after the game, ice? He wasn’t nearly as good as Rodgers and played an awful game. You might talk about his regular season stats, but Matty Ice is 0-2 in the playoffs.
That being said you guys have a great, young team and have a lot to look forward to. Your offensive line is awesome, Matt Ryan is a good maybe great QB, and you have a lot to look forward to. I think in this years draft you should get Ryan a few more playmakers at the WR position and definitely upgrade your defensive backs. I thought a key match up was Rodgers Vs your DBs, and Ryan Vs our DBs. Obviously our DBs and QB play were the difference.
Here in WI there is a new Matty Ice. Matt Flynn, who came in to “Ice” the game for the Packers. He’s the new Matty Ice, when your QB wins something that matters, then talk to me about a cool nickname. On to the NFC Championship for the Green Bay Packers.
Good Game.

Aaron Rodgers was no good in the playoffs until this year Green n Gold, but I agree he is the better QB right now. I will still take my chances with the QB we drafted over Rodgers and live and die with him, we just happend to die with thim this year. They both will have long great careers and I am sure this is only the first of many meetings in the playoffs…

It’s all about the playoffs, man. And you’re not that accurate, Rodgers played unreal in his first playoff game, the D just folded to Warner. To say he was no good is inaccurate, he had 400+ yards and 5 total TDs. That’s pretty freaking good. Ryan will go on to have a great career and you guys have a good team, and one of the best coaches in the league. No reason to hang your head, you guys will be tough as nails for the next few years. See I like conversing with fans like Green N Gold.. respect for the opposition yet grateful when you win and realize that in the NFL it’s a game of inches and you know any team can win any day. It’s the other 99% on these chatboards that are morons. I didn’t know Rodgers stats down to the T on his playoffs, I just knew last week was his first win. Don’t worry I am not looking forward to the Packers either…the overall talent level position by position on the Pack is just better and I think that does make a huge difference in a game like this. Hopefully that will change soon and we won’t have to rely completely on Ryan and White..Turner only has a few more miles in the tank too.

Yeah I completely get it. We happened to be the better team this week. Anything can happen and it was proved the last time we played, we moved the ball up and down, didn’t get points, you won. Really frustrating. Then in this game you return a kick off against us back to the house and I’m all doom and gloom. Rodgers was hot, no way around it. Ryan struggled for whatever reason. It was the Tramon interception returned for 6 at the end of the first half that did it. Packers fans haven’t screamed like that since Matt Hasselbeck said “We want the ball and we’re gonna score”. You guys have a great team. Like I said before upgrade your secondary, Rodgers killed you there.

Green n Gold that has been a weekness for years…and maybe our new management will fix it. I will say this regime is different in that they are attempting to put a winner on the fiield and from where we were at when the dog killer left us, I think we are doing pretty good. Everyone said it would be a 5 year minimum turnaround from that debacle, so I don’t think we are far from it considering we’ve made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years and had 3 straight winning seasons, we just aren’t ready for primetime yet. BTW, I hate the bears…so hope the Pack takes care of business next week.

“Look at the facts:
Falcons 20 Packers 17 Regular Season
Falcons 13&3 Packers 10&6
Falcons #1 Wide Reciever in NFC Roddy White – Packers # 4 Jennings
Falcons #1 Running Back in the NFC Turner – Packers #33 Jackson
Falcons #1 Give/Take (+13) NFC – Packers #3 (+10)
Falcons #2 Points Scored on Offense NFC – Packers #6 in NFC
Falcons Home Wins 7&1 – Packers Road Wins 3&5
Face it, the Falcons are the number 1 seed for a very good reason. They are the best in the NFC and they should beat the Packers again.”
Would you care to recant any of your statements? I didn’t think so. We expect success so it’s nothing new to us, while you act like a jackwagon and say things like that. We can handle it, you obviously can’t. It’s like watching a creakhead finding a $20 bill. You had a little success and don’t know how to handle, go run off and find more crack. I am proud of the Falcons. 13-3. Lost one lousy game in the playoffs and everyone is ready to burn down the building. It happens. Any given game can go bad. I’m still a Falcon fan, win or lose. Green Bay was better this time. They can get beat next week. Nothing is given in the NFL. This Falcon team played hard all year. One game does not a season make. Good luck next year. They will be back.
Overhaul Due
January 16th, 2011
6:38 am
They can be fixed but Blank will CERTAINLY NOT do what it takes to fix them.
Could the young up and coming NFC Champs need a major overhaul already? YES!!!
1. Either Mularky or Matty Ice (lol) or both need to GO! The ultra-conservative play calling will never get you past the FIRST ROUND of the playoffs.
These plays are called either because the Mularky knows no other way and cannot adapt or because he knows that Ryan is very very iffy on long balls and tough reads.
Given that Mularky HAD a rep for offensive innovation before coming to the Falcons; I would say that he knows Ryan’s limitations and has been trying to prevent the type of interception fest that went on last night.
The third rather intriguing option is that Mularky has been INSTRUCTED by Mike Smith to call the plays that way to protect Ryan, in which case I can’t really blame Mularky.
2.Van Gorder has got to go. It quickly became obvious in this game, as in several recent ones that the only way the birds can stop a high powered O, or a hot QB is to Blitz, Blitz, Blitz! Everyone watching, including the announcers could see that we needed to blitz except BVG. Unless once again he was following Smith’s orders.
3. We obviously need personnel upgrades ALL OVER THE FIELD!
I could go on and on. But without the first two changes, other changes, including player personnel would be futile. Mr. Blank is enamored with his coaching staff and QB due to the moderate success that they have had. So this NEW FALCONS DEBACLE will continue for at least another three years. Then we will start all over again.
Rise Up! Go Birds! Blah, blah…..blah.

Congrats to the Packs, heck of a game and hopefully we’ll learned from the butt whooping. However the one thing that sickens me is how negative people, and especially our fans become when the Falcons lose. It’s freagin sports, your opponent prepares just as much as you do. The 13-3 record wasn’t fluke. The home team just picked a wrong day to play poorly. I still love my team, it was a fun ride this season and I was not ready to get off yet. We will keep rising up. GO FALCONS!

That staff could not coach a little league team to a win. Espn, stated they hope not to see your team on national tv again. Every time they show your team in prime time they get exposed. It’s official, Atlanta teams are also known as loserville. Let’s see, Georgia tech, Georgia bulldogs lost their bowl games. The Atlanta hawks lost last night, and so did the Atlanta falcons, the number one seed. You people should be use to this kind of stuff, so don’t act surprised. You know it and so does espn.

Green Bay was the better team last night and probably the better team going into the playoffs. Yes the Falcons were 13 and 3 but the that record was a little misleading. 2 of the wins really should have been losses (Saints @ NO and San Fran) and the only dominating wins came against bad teams (Carolina, Arizona & Seattle). They were good enough to win close games but let’s don’t kid ourselves, late in the year teams started exposing the Defense and the O Line started breaking down on almost every pass play. Even with the lost last night I still believe the cup is half full because there were and is more positives with this team going into the off season than last year. The Defense was good against the run and at times could rush the passer but against quality teams that gave their QB time in the pocket it got picked apart. The front office has their hands full this off season:
1. Get the defense Line turned around. Priority.
2. Try to somehow upgrade the O Line.
3. Add depth at CB/S
4. Look at adding another RB in the Draft because next year could be Turners last.

Each Falcon coach and player that have made the “Pro Bowl” should select 1 seat number from the Dome at random, and send their entire family to Hawaii instead.
Instead of coaching and playing in the “Pro Bowl” why don’t the Falcons figure out a way to get pressure on the opposing QB (Oh look, Arron Rogers just threw another TD strike).

Disgrace in the house of Blank!!!!! The birds need a 2-ton nose guard, a new DC, a running mate for Turner, better receivers and DB’s. Well shoot, I guess they need a whole new team., The least they could do now is to show Ryan how to throw the long ball (but then you would need someone able to catch it!) and teach defense how to tackle! Pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a good idea, considering those coaches poor performance (game plan) for the Greenbay game! Otherwise, the entire Falcon staff was outstanding this year — luv them, and my family supports you.
Saw John Kincaid on t.v. the other night; he is SO unattractive. How much weight did he lose — he’s got 3 or 4 double chins. He needs to lose more. And, yes, I am a female. John Kincaid is SO unattractive — don’t put him on t.v. any more.

Falcon’s will be alright, you guys have good organizational leadership in place now and a solid enough team to continue building around. The turnaround from the 2007 season has been impressive to watch, and I’m a Packer fan currently living in Atlanta. The team just seemed to have too much unearned swagger going into this matchup. Regular season wins do not equal playoff wins, especially when a team isn’t used to winning big. Hey, it happened for NO last year, might even happen for ATL someday…
That being said, GO PACK GO! Rodgers was unreal! Bring the Lombardi Trophy back home to Green Bay!

Never been one to rub it in after a win especially because it could now be the Bears in Soldiers field — Awesome NFC Championship Game if it works out that way– and the Bears Defense is a whole lot tougher than the past two teams. All I will say about last night was you people in Atlanta need to get out more. When you’re drunk and getting your butts kicked you turn your anger on the opposing fans and NOT each other. We had three fights around us and they were all Falcon fans on Falcon fans. If we do have to go Chicago next week, instead of home, that’s not how it will work.

We have depth, identity and talent as an organization….you got NOTHING but a house of cards team! Profootballtalk.com sums it up best:
It was the kind of spanking that the top seed in a division-round game is supposed to periodically administer to the visiting team. Instead, it was the worst loss by the NFC’s top seed in the division round since 1987, when the Vikings shocked the 49ers in San Francisco, 36-24.
We’ve got a strange feeling that the Falcons, in a division that features the potent Saints and the up-and-coming Bucs, won’t get another shot at holding serve as the top seed any time soon.

Wow,
What a game by the Pack! I rolled in here last week to see what the opposition was saying about the upcoming game. There was a ton of confidence on your side of the ball Falcons fans (deservedly so after going 13-3). What is surprising to me now is how many of you have gone “Chicken Little”. The sky is not falling. You ran into a buzz-saw who refused to fold.
Fumble by the Pack turns into a Birds TD, no problem, we drive and score to tie it.
Weems takes the kick-off to the house. No problem, we go 92 yards and score to tie it.
Williams gets a pick to stop a drive and Rogers goes 80 and scores. Up by 7.
Falcons driving before the half and get greedy looking to get 5 yards closer for the field goal try with 10 ticks left and no timeouts and Williams pick sixes Ryan.
Packers start 2nd half with a touchdown and there is a stampede for the exits.
What the Packers did to you team is what you’ve been doing to everyone all year long. Your team is like a boa constrictor. It’s a slow, methodical death and it has to be painful to have it happen to you when you have been doing to everyone else.
Don’t freak out. You still have a far better than average team who is on a huge upswing. Anyone who thinks coaches should be fired and wholesale changes should be made to that team should go watch soccer. Ryan will learn from this as will the coaching staff. I see allot of similarities with the Packs progression and where the Falcons should be headed.
GO PACK!

C’mon haters really? I can’t believe these posts. Aaron Rodgers played his best game ever tonight and NOONE would have beaten the Pack tonight. It was a surreal performance. The Falcons also chose to play their worst game of the season, so combine the two and you have the blowout hat happened tonight.
I give the Pack all the credit in the world, but I will say dont talk about rings yet. You are playing great right now and I hope you ride it to the SuperBowl, but take it easy. The knocks on Ryan are unwarranted. He made one VERY poor throw for the pick 6, and playing from that far behind with a defense flyin at ya isn’t easy. I think we’ll see this matchup of Rodgers v. Ryan for years to come, both solid young teams.
Good luck to GB, and Falcon fans that are sitting here giving up o the franchise because we lost one game relax. It was a bad loss and it stings for sure, but we have the best team we’ve had around here ever. Three years, two playoff appearances, one division crown and a YOUNG team. DeCoud and Moore will only get better, Grimes improved like crazy this year, Spoon and Dunta were a rook and a vet in their first years in the defense. We need to address the d-end position and get Ryan another weapon on the outside for sure. Douglas was a disappointment this year.
And The Flynn as ICE comments really?! Matty ICE resides in the atl, always will. He got that name because of his already having 8 4th qtr comebacks to win in three years. Now although Rodgers is great, he plays well with a lead. And check the stats because Rodgers has led such a comeback ZERO times, so hopefully he doesnt have to play from behind.

I have to admit it is pretty hilarious for the Who Dat nation to come on here and try to trash talk the Falcons. We won the NFC South, you got taken out of the playoffs by (snicker) Seattle.
*************************************
When they came out of the tunnel I swear I thought to myself, they do not look like they are fired up, looking somewhat timid. Christopher Owens didn’t lose us this game………..at least not all by himself. The Packers dominated in every facet, they wanted it more than we did. Aaron Rogers got hot at the right time of the season. We all knew our defense has improved but still 22nd ranked against the pass. So it was a fun year, winning the NFC South an accomplishment and naturally we all wished our A game had of showed up last night. Congrats to Green Bay more than likely the NFC representative in the Super Bowl. So none of us wanted to lose like that, not so much embarrassing as it was like being strip searched in public. Maybe that trip to Hawaii appeared a little more appealing than Arlington in February. We beat Green Bay in a playoff game at Lambeau, they just returned the favor. Congratulations to the Talon Razor Sharp Atlanta Falcons on an excellent season. So, who do you like in the draft……………..?

Maybe they need to change the Ryan’s name to “Matty Dry Ice”. This team always folds like a cheap tent in big games and against good competition. They got spanked by the Saints and now Green Bay. Thank goodness they can beat teams like Carolina.
Falcon fans were duped into thinking this was a good team by the weak schedule the Falcon’s played. The coaching staff and the players, especially Mr. Dry Ice don’t know how to win big games and choked, plain and simple. This team has no leaders. Now they are left with a crappy draft and tough season for 2011. This team will go no where for a long time.

Hopefully BVG will not be on the staff coaching the Pro Bowl b/c he should be let go today. That was the most pathetic performance by a Defense that I have seen in a long time. He did not make any adjustments against Rogers quick passes. No pressure on the QB and the secondary is flat-out terrible. Robinson is a huge bust and don’t even get me started on Owens. Heck, even Aikman commented that BVG didn’t have a clue.

Proof this game was fixed……NFL knew Rodgers would be in the Super Bowl so there was no reason for him to be picked.
Mr. Blank better do something quick to re-energize the fan base or we’re looking at 4-12, 5-11 next season. Seen it happen many times. 1981 Falcons went 3-0 to start the season and then…. UTTER COLLAPSE and fail.

Explain to me how can dome team can be slower than a team that play on the grass and cold weather? How can beat a team that can score in less than a minute?
I have always thought that the Falcons though successful, is to slow and grinding for a dome team; most dome use speed to beat visiting teams. Falcons style of offense will never beat elite teams like New England, GreenBay, New Orleans and so on. They need young fast defense lineman, linebackers and defensive backs. Mike Turner is good for clock management but Falcons need a fast running back that get to the outside and catch passes. If the Falcons don’t change they will be forever falling short in playoffs.

You guys have a great team. Young QB chocks in the playoffs. Which one didn’t?
Your biggest problem is you, the fans. Empty the stadium at end of the third? You will never see that in GB, even with the scores reversed, the temp below zero, and the wind blowing like stink. It’s your team, you’re in a climate controlled dome, you’ve paid for the ticket, hang around and show a litte support!
Good luck next season. Hope to see you on the tundra at playoff time.

We got our butts kicked. But Atlanta is far superior in each and every way to the dump that is Green Bay. It’s right there… next to Buffalo and pretty much all of northern NJ… a dump. While we have a wide variety of teams to cheer for, they have only one thing… the Packers. That’s it. There’s pretty much NOTHING else outside of the Packers that there is to do in your life in Green Bay. I’d rather be from ATL and be a Falcons fan of a team that got our butts kicked then be from anywhere near Green Bay. Have fun in your dump.

Coach of the year awards must go to the Bear and Packer staffs. Three years ago these teams were mediocre to poor, made key changes especially at QB, and are now among the top 4 teams. Great job.
Atlanta under new leadership and with Ryan have become an elite team but are obviously not among the top 4. Atl is among the top 6 or 8 teams.

Da Bears historical QB problems:
“Luckman still holds the Bears’ career records for passing yards and touchdowns despite playing in an era of 12-game seasons and leather helmets. That is akin to a stagecoach’s holding a Nascar track record. Since his retirement, the Bears have been cursed with six decades of quarterback mediocrity.”
Sid Luckman played with a leather helmet. Funny article on NYTimes site today.

What’s with all those birds falling out the sky? Could it be because the filthy pigeons got their you know what handed to them last night. Could it be because they anointed themselves the super bowl champs, because they were the number one seed. Did the NFL not explain to them, that you still have to play the game. I mean who would fool their fans into thinking that because they had the best record in the NFC that they , would automatically advance to the super bowl. Was it roddy country, loud mouth that told the falcants fans that they would win super bowl 45. Why don’t we as saints fans petition the NFL to let us loan our Lombardi trophy to the long suffering falcants fans. You would have sworn that someone shouted fire in the Georgia dome last night. You true falcants fans vacated that place as fast as mr. Bolt runs the 100 yard dash. But hey, you guys are true fans, right. Enjoy another long season iwithout a super bowl.

WE ARE PAYING MATT RYAN BIG BOY MONEY TO PLAY BIG BOY FOOTBALL IN PLAYOFF CRUNCH TIME, AND HE DID NOT DELIVER! WE WERE AT THE HOUSE, NO LESS! ITS EASY TO BLAME OUR DEFENSE FOR GIVING UP NEARLY 50PTS. BUT, OUR QB CANT THROW 2 INT’S, ONE OF WHICH WAS A PICK 6! IT WAS STILL A GAME UP TO THAT POINT! REGULAR SEASON STATS ARE NICE, BUT MATT RYAN HAS TO PERFORM A LOT BETTER WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, AND THE WORLD IS WATCHING! WHAT’S THE USE OF GOING 13-3, AND EARN THE NUMBER 1 SEED, IF WEARE GOING TO LAY AN EGG LIKE THAT IN FRONT OF OUR FANS? I WOULD RATHER GO 9-7, AND WIN A WILD CARD GAME THAN HAVE WHAT SEEMED LIKE A CLEAR PATH TO DALLAS AND THE SUPERBOWL!

You know what makes me angry? People that live in Atlanta but do not root for or support the local teams. The number of pictures I saw in the AJC yesterday of Packer fans at the game that would be titled “Packer fan Joe Smith from Dougalsville Ga” etc. Then when the Braves were playing the Giants in the playoffs, so many Giant fans at the games that were from the local area. You would NEVER see that in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, etc. You live here, you benefit from the area, you support the local teams. I was born and raised in New York, grew up a die hard Buffalo Bills and New York Mets fan. But I have not been in Georgia 15 years and my teams are the Braves and Falcons. I truly do not understand anyone who does not see or understand that.

Falconfanatichica- saints fans talk, because the rules of the game allow us to. What does it matter that we come on here and post. Yes you are right, it was last year that we won the super bowl. Yes we lost to the seahawks. This is the NFL, so on any given day, ask the patriots, ask the so called super bowl champs, Atlanta falcants. It was roddy big mouth white and the falcants that anointed yourselves the champs. It was you guys who for some reason, thought that just because you had the best record in the NFC, that automatically made your team the champs. Then like a kid you talk about the people from new Orleans that resides in the Atlanta area. Last I checked, this is America. You are free to live where ever you want to. Last I checked most people that reside in Atlanta is not from there in the first place. America is the melting pot in case you did not know. The other thing is this, your people are on our message boards with the same hateful stuff, when we lost in new Orleans to your team and when we lost to Seattle. It kills me that you people can dish it out, but when it’s returned, we are the hateful, idiots and ignorant people. Now, once again, let me explain the rules of the game, until your team gets to party with the Lombardi like we did, you guys need to shut up, it makes you look stupid.

This was the worst 13-3 team in NFL history as far as I am concerned. To win a Super Bowl, you must have an explosive offense with lots of playmakers or a dominating defense loaded with intimidating and hard hitting defenders. The Falcons have neither of these. They were a 9-7 or 10-6 team that overachieved its way to somehow get to 13-3. This team has as many holes as swiss cheese, and boy was that obvious against the Packers. The Falcons will be lucky to be a wild card team next season with either the Saints or Bucs winning the division. And if the injury bug hits them(like it did the Saints this season), they will not even make the playoffs because their talent level, depth, and team speed are just not all that good. There hasn’t been a repeat champion in the NFC South for years, and I fully expect that trend to continue.
