110115 Atlanta - Atlanta Falcons Eric Weems returns a kickoff for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers for a 14-7 lead during 2nd quarter action at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011. Curtis Compton ccompton@ajc.com
With the game Pro Bowl being played the week before the Super Bowl, the Falcons coaching staff will coach in the NFC squad in the Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
The Falcons had seven players selected for the game and have two first alternate.
Running back Michael Turner, fullback Ovie Mughelli, quarterback Matt Ryan, tight end Tony Gonzalez, wide receiver Roddy White, defensive end John Abraham and special teamer Eric Weems were all selected for the all-star game.
Also, right tackle Tyson Clabo and kicker Matt Bryant are alternates and could go if players in front of them get injured or reach the Super Bowl.

The Falcon coaching staff will do a good job as NFC Pro Bowl Coaches. One bad game does not mean they are bad coaches.

Da Bears historical QB problems:
“Luckman still holds the Bears’ career records for passing yards and touchdowns despite playing in an era of 12-game seasons and leather helmets. That is akin to a stagecoach’s holding a Nascar track record. Since his retirement, the Bears have been cursed with six decades of quarterback mediocrity.”
Sid Luckman played with a leather helmet. Funny article on NYTimes site today.

What’s with all those birds falling out the sky? Could it be because the filthy pigeons got their you know what handed to them last night. Could it be because they anointed themselves the super bowl champs, because they were the number one seed. Did the NFL not explain to them, that you still have to play the game. I mean who would fool their fans into thinking that because they had the best record in the NFC that they , would automatically advance to the super bowl. Was it roddy country, loud mouth that told the falcants fans that they would win super bowl 45. Why don’t we as saints fans petition the NFL to let us loan our Lombardi trophy to the long suffering falcants fans. You would have sworn that someone shouted fire in the Georgia dome last night. You true falcants fans vacated that place as fast as mr. Bolt runs the 100 yard dash. But hey, you guys are true fans, right. Enjoy another long season iwithout a super bowl.

WE ARE PAYING MATT RYAN BIG BOY MONEY TO PLAY BIG BOY FOOTBALL IN PLAYOFF CRUNCH TIME, AND HE DID NOT DELIVER! WE WERE AT THE HOUSE, NO LESS! ITS EASY TO BLAME OUR DEFENSE FOR GIVING UP NEARLY 50PTS. BUT, OUR QB CANT THROW 2 INT’S, ONE OF WHICH WAS A PICK 6! IT WAS STILL A GAME UP TO THAT POINT! REGULAR SEASON STATS ARE NICE, BUT MATT RYAN HAS TO PERFORM A LOT BETTER WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, AND THE WORLD IS WATCHING! WHAT’S THE USE OF GOING 13-3, AND EARN THE NUMBER 1 SEED, IF WEARE GOING TO LAY AN EGG LIKE THAT IN FRONT OF OUR FANS? I WOULD RATHER GO 9-7, AND WIN A WILD CARD GAME THAN HAVE WHAT SEEMED LIKE A CLEAR PATH TO DALLAS AND THE SUPERBOWL!

I agree. The Atlanta coaching staff did so well preparing and coaching against the Packers. They should guarantee an AFC win in the pro bowl.

Green and Gold–always nice to see fans who can don’t have to lower themselves to trash talk but who realize that on any given day, a great team can falter. Your guys did an outstanding job on us Saturday night and I think you’re right–this should be a playoff match up to watch in the years to come.

I laugh at all the fair weather Falcon Fans with their HATE posts.
If you turn on the team after a loss you are no better than a weak wimp “pull for the hottest team each season” band wagoner fan, see where that got the saints fans who are spouting their garbage now? At least we have a classic video to show the team next season before we play the Saints. That Saints fan video will be great fuel to throw onto the fire next season. THANKS Saints guy!!!
don’t miss this classic “foot in mouth” video from the average saints fan, he represents his TEAM and CITY so well.

Not that I ever watch the Pro Bowl, but I damn sure wouldn’t tune in with Smith/Mularkey directing the offense.
Run up the middle, run up the middle, pass (no further than 15 yards) on 3rd and 8.
Those two could make Brandy and Rogers look average.

As I read the Comments of so called packers fans.
I think to myself how real are they ?
I think they are fairweather fans that jump on the band wagon.
I have been to Greenbay to watch the falcons play and the fans are great , even after we beat them at home they still gave us tons of food and beer.
as for Falcon fans support your team WIN or LOOSE.
IF YOU CAN NOT DO THAT GO WATCH SOCCER.

You might have to let Mularky go and bring in a young Josh Mcdaniels to call plays and work with Ryan. Sometimes maybe a coordinator has taken you as far as he can. You don’t want a knee jerk reaction. But I’ll be watching this team closely to see what changes have been made. Keep in mind our GM is a neophyte when it comes to managing a football team.

FalconsBrain, you must understand the History of Atlanta no professional team here has one anything except for the Braves in 1991. You call them fairweather fans< I call them fans who are tire of losing.

You know what makes me angry? People that live in Atlanta but do not root for or support the local teams. The number of pictures I saw in the AJC yesterday of Packer fans at the game that would be titled “Packer fan Joe Smith from Dougalsville Ga” etc. Then when the Braves were playing the Giants in the playoffs, so many Giant fans at the games that were from the local area. You would NEVER see that in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, etc. You live here, you benefit from the area, you support the local teams. I was born and raised in New York, grew up a die hard Buffalo Bills and New York Mets fan. But I have not been in Georgia 15 years and my teams are the Braves and Falcons. I truly do not understand anyone who does not see or understand that.

Falconfanatichica- saints fans talk, because the rules of the game allow us to. What does it matter that we come on here and post. Yes you are right, it was last year that we won the super bowl. Yes we lost to the seahawks. This is the NFL, so on any given day, ask the patriots, ask the so called super bowl champs, Atlanta falcants. It was roddy big mouth white and the falcants that anointed yourselves the champs. It was you guys who for some reason, thought that just because you had the best record in the NFC, that automatically made your team the champs. Then like a kid you talk about the people from new Orleans that resides in the Atlanta area. Last I checked, this is America. You are free to live where ever you want to. Last I checked most people that reside in Atlanta is not from there in the first place. America is the melting pot in case you did not know. The other thing is this, your people are on our message boards with the same hateful stuff, when we lost in new Orleans to your team and when we lost to Seattle. It kills me that you people can dish it out, but when it’s returned, we are the hateful, idiots and ignorant people. Now, once again, let me explain the rules of the game, until your team gets to party with the Lombardi like we did, you guys need to shut up, it makes you look stupid.

It’s amazing how the Aint’s have one lucky season and all of a sudden they can act like winners, like they were the Patriots or Steelers and have multiple rings. Your ring outshines your class.

Not giving up on Matt Ryan, but he did choke. The whole team choked. The defense was awful. Give credit to the Packers. They showed Atlanta what a real team is suppose to look like.

I still love my Falcons, difficult loss, but we will be back. Not mad, Patriots fell off too, and they had the best record in the NFL. Congrats to the coaches of Atl Falcons…overall they did a great job for the season (one bad loss and we throw the whole team away?) Dang…y’all are cut throat.

Flat is about all there is that can be said. I think that the first round by is a set up. Just like coming off a by week flat. I am however thankful for a winning season (3). Now we see what we need on defense let’s get the parts and move on. I am still happy with what the Falcons gave us this past season. Now lets see what they do with this next season. Seven play off teams on the schedule, plus the NFC South…

This was the worst 13-3 team in NFL history as far as I am concerned. To win a Super Bowl, you must have an explosive offense with lots of playmakers or a dominating defense loaded with intimidating and hard hitting defenders. The Falcons have neither of these. They were a 9-7 or 10-6 team that overachieved its way to somehow get to 13-3. This team has as many holes as swiss cheese, and boy was that obvious against the Packers. The Falcons will be lucky to be a wild card team next season with either the Saints or Bucs winning the division. And if the injury bug hits them(like it did the Saints this season), they will not even make the playoffs because their talent level, depth, and team speed are just not all that good. There hasn’t been a repeat champion in the NFC South for years, and I fully expect that trend to continue.
