Falcons to fans: Please arrive early

Falcons fans coming to Saturday’s game are encouraged to arrive early, and will have an incentive – beyond, you know, making it on time – to do so. The first 60,000 fans in the Georgia Dome will receive a Falcons Rise Up flag specially designed for the game. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Besides the weather potentially causing delays, the Atlanta Boat Show is at the Georgia World Congress Center and the Hawks are playing at Philips Arena.

The team is also encouraging fans who don’t have pre-paid parking passes to take MARTA to the game. The good folks at MARTA presumably also think this is a fine idea.

The team will move its Falcons Landing to the orange lot from its usual spot because of the weather. The orange lot is on Georgia Dome Drive.

They don’t have to bribe all the fans to be there early. I am driving down from Indiana and will be there very early–road conditions permitting. I can’t wait for the game.

@cheesehead What makes me giggle is the AJC’s sports coverage. I learn more about the Falcons from other papers/blogs. I think all of the AJC writers should be forced to study the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s coverage of the Steelers, and then have an offsite retreat with Ed Buchette so they can learn what it means to be a beat writer.

On topic, however, you’re correct. The Falcons front office shouldn’t have to beg and bribe fans to be on time for kickoff.

I wouldn’t go to the game tomorrow without a gas mask. 25,000 Packer fans in the Dome? 25,000 people who eat a lot of bratwurst and cheese, and drink a lot of beer? We Falcons fans had better be louder than a jet engine, because we’ll need to drown out the sounds these Packer fans will be producing throughout the entire game.

While you tailgate do not take your eyes off your perosnal belongings as the homeless and thugs wander all around the tailgaiting areas just waiting for an opportunity to steal. Listen to all you morons that act like you blew out the Packers. Tony G dropped a 4th down pass that was called a completion. So take 7 points off the board there. Packers fumbled at the goal line due to not having a running back. Starks can punch that in, add 7 points. Falcon’s could have easily lost by 11 plus. That dome is nothing special where it impossible to win for the visiting team. Playing indoors helps out all the teams. In all due respect, Green Bay is a city that was built on NFL tradition, and there is NOTHING other to do in that city but to push owners and management to build a championship team, not to mention that the packers have been in existance for about 40 + years more the Falcons…. I’ve worked downtown, walked downtown, and passed-by SOME homeless people in Atlanta for 20+ years. Downtown Atlanta has NEVER been more tourist friendly than now. It’s usually a beautiful place to stop at the GA Aquarium, Coca-Cola Museum, the Children’s Museum, CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, the Boat Show at the WCC (right next door to GA Dome) and, oh, maybe take in a football game at the Dome. Welcome to the ATL, but….

What does tradition have to do with this game? Do you get points for that? All those players/coaches are out of the game or dead! Bless you hearts, packer fans, you’re just ‘Whistling past the graveyard’. Meaning? “To attempt to stay cheerful in a dire situation; to proceed with a task, ignoring an upcoming hazard, hoping for a good outcome.” hahaha. If the NFL had any class, they would just go ahead and spot the Packers 14 points based on tradition. The world wants Bears-Packers as the NFC Championship Game. That’s ratings. That’s apparel sales. ESPN even already started previewing it on Monday, and it was the lead story on the NFL section of their website for two days.

…went to the first ATL vs. GB and I’ll be there tomorrow night. Aaron Rodgers was “lights out” that day and the Packers were still the team fighting to find a way to tie it up in the end. The Falcons were not to be denied that day; we all know the outcome. I think that is the make up of this team… lots of guts. There have been too many opportunities for this team to fold this year and every time they have showed the guts necessary to get a win. Anything can happen, but Green Bay will have to play their best game of the year to beat us, and I’m not certain that is enough. I just think the Falcons will find a way. Tomorrow night is not about Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers, or even the talking heads on ESPN; like the guy on the video board says “This is our time Atlanta!” and tomorrow night is about the team wearing the red and black. Atlanta fans should get there early and soak this one in.

I’m glad you guys are such believers, but how come the dome wasn’t full on Thanksgiving weekend? There were plenty of seats empty in the upper level. I’m hoping you can fill the place up for a playoff game, bandwagoners aren’t hard to find. Just roll over on Saturday, Packers vs Bears NFC championship game is huge ratings. Huge fan base on both sides, and lots of tradition. The Falcons are regional at best, and ESPN and the national media gives you no love.

However it was nice to watch it on TV by the fire on top of the mountain with lots of good family fellowship and good ol southern cooking to chow down on. We have this tradition also, its called Thanksgiving was 3 days prior to that, so all your family has tickets to the game. I know nobody would understand that because the Falcons don’t have a fan base. Its similar to how the Braves can’t sell out during the playoffs, or when the NBA had to fly in a crowd to fill the arean for the all star game a few years back. I know if it was an SEC game or Nascar people would have showed up. Being relivent means you are constantly competing for the playoffs not celebrating for having a winning record two years in a row. I do like the Creflo Dollar approch you guys have with Samuel L. Jackson. There is nothing like a church feel to the game. One and done ladies, enjoy the Packers/Bears NFC championship next Sunday.

Long after we leave Wisc we still represent our cheese state. Ga Bulldogs have more loyal fans than the Falcons. Haha I’m just kidding. I really did write that. The back-up of cheese in my colon and intestinal track is bringing the onset of Multiple-Personalities.

Have you ever seen Aaron Rodgers weiner? It makes Matt Ryan’s look like a summer sausage in a Christmas gift box that my fat grandma sent to me from Wisconsin

@jsmith “arrive early so you the homeless out front have a better chance to beg for money while you tailgate and so the thugs in downtown atlanta have more prey to feast on while you spend more quality time in beautiful downtown hotlanta!!”…

I’m a lifelong Atlantian. Have visited many other urban areas in the USA. My work moves me around to many parts of the city … I have chosen MARTA on some occassions to get me there for weeks at a time. I say all this to give credeance to what I’m about to say…

I’m growing tired of the constant drubbing of venues in Atlanta by those (who I assume) live in suburbia or even rural areas surrounding Atlanta.

1) Complaining about the homeless begging is tired – just say no and move on. You’d feel much better about saying no if in your heart of hearts you’re doing something to help in a systematic way.
2) jsmith – I’m guessing when think of venturing Inside the perimeter that the Thug’s will challenge you of your manhood. I’d be willing to go out on a limb and propose that villian in your head is young, black and may even have gold teeth. Don’t be fooled – give it chance to know these folks – most have jobs, kids and wouldn’t even think of robbing you. Most crime in Atlanta is black on black crime and crimes of passion. You’ll be ok – but the guy you fear most may not.

Venture inward, bring your kids and wife. It’s a great city with lovely people and some wonderful heritage.

Packer Fans, from the home of Jeffrey Dahmer, are getting on to Atl about the runaway bride and the homeless?

I have had the misfortune of spending many nights in Milwaukee for conferences and it is dead except for the homeless after 6 PM.

So many offensive comments! Falcon fans will never understand the bond we have with our Packers in both good AND bad years. Many locals support their team only during winning seasons. I suspect these “newbies” are the ones who are so defensive and insulting. Having said that, Packers fans need to give the Falcons the respect they deserve. The game will be extremely tough. There’s a difference between Packers pride and arrogance. Remember you’re in their house. Go Pack!

“the reason the Dome is not full sometime? Unlike Green Bay, there is more in Atlanta than just the NFL….”

That dog don’t hunt. Yankee Stadium and Giants Stadium are always filled….and there are a billion more things to do in NYC than in tiny little Atlanta. NYC LOVES GB!!

Every non Sunday day game the fans are always there on time. Sorry but this is the Bible belt with a large black fan base they people go to church on Sundays and there is nothing the NFL or the Falcons can do to change that.

Also in Green Bay you have 100,000 people that live there. In metro Atlanta there are 5.6 million people most of whom have no idea how to properly drive, which makes traffic a nightmare.

superalpha,

That’s not actually true Yankee stadium failed to sell out opening day as well as one of their playoff games this past October. The Giants and Jets did not sell out any of their home games this year at the new Giants stadium. They sold enough seats to make sure the games would not be blacked out but they did not sell them out. It was in all of the New York papers because people were pissed about the cost of tickets this year for both teams. Same thing with the Yankees.

As for the Falcons they sell out all of their games they have slow arriving crowds because the traffic in Atlanta is the worst on the east coast and this is the Bible belt. People go to church in the south, especially black people, which is what a lot of the Falcons fan base is. The NFL can complain all they want about it but it’s not going to change. When the Falcons played the Ravens on Thursday night football the place was packed at kick off. When they played the Saints on Monday Night Football the place was packed at kick off. It’s just those 1pm Sunday games that people arrive late too.
