COACH SMITH’S SHOW CANCELED
–Coach Smith has canceled his radio show, Falcons Live, according to the team. He usually does it at a Sporting Good Store in Flowery Branch on Monday.
“Falcons Live: Come (Mike) Smith Show has been canceled tonight due to the weather. We will advise if it gets rescheduled,” the team tweeted on its official twitter account.
FLOWERY BRANCH – The inclement weather should not effect the Falcons preparation for their divisional playoff game with the Green Bay Packers set for 8 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Dome.
The coaches were at the facilities late Sunday putting their finishing touches on the game plan and likely stayed on-site in the dormitories.
Monday morning, the players were trying to make their way into the facilities for a walkthrough practice that was schedule to start around 11 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m.
When the team gets assembled, they will likely hold their practice at the indoor facility and the team would have to option of moving everyone back into the dormitories, which is where they live during training camp.
Here’s the practice schedule for the rest of the week:
Monday — Team Walkthrough.
Tuesday – Practice 1:10 – 3 p.m. (Game Plan Installation)

The Falcons could be playing some billiards in the players' amenities building if they stay in the dormitories at Flowery Branch. (D. Orlando Ledbetter/Dledbetter@ajc.com)
Wednesday – Practice — 11:40 a.m. – 1:20 p.m. (Game Plan Installation)
Thursday – Practice 11:00 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.
Friday – Team Walkthrough
Saturday – NFC Divisional Playoff vs. Green Bay, 8 p.m.

I am very excited that the Falcons will see Green Bay in the playoffs. I was concerned about playing Philly because of the red headed step child beating they gave us earlier in the summer. I was not so concerned about the Saints because I think the Falcons could be them on any given day. Which brings us to Green Bay. I believe the Falcons will be solid. The week off will cerntainly give us an advantage. Should be a great game and I am hoping for the blowout early.

I dont know but I think the seeding system needs some tweaking…Falcons are the number one seed and playing a Packers team that was 10-6 in the regular season vs a Seahawks team that was 7-9.
Not really fair for a number one seed when the Bears at #2 seed get an easier opponent.
That being said GO BIRDS!

I’m a little perplexed as to how many Falcon fans are looking past the Packers, and even thankful the Pack beat the Eagles. Some of you don’t even realize that if the Eagles won, you’d have played Seattle, or the fact that if Rogers did not fumble at the goal line, the Pack would have won in Notlanta earlier. The Pack are playing their best right now, and Starks is not a flash in the pan… this guy can run.
So, please look past the Pack… just like the Eagles did. I think your SB talk is premature, but we’ll see come Saturday.

Packbuzz, yada yada yada I’m over it. You’re a decent team. Rodgers is no Favre. He’s nervous and twitchy in the pocket. The secret is outside containment. Despite the Eagles game against a leaky D that was worst in the league inside the 20, you scored only 21 points and could easily have lost to what was really a mediocre team down the stretch. 1 good game from a rookie doesn’t mean you have a running attack worth a damn.
A sticky Tampa 2 defense and your offense will fail. Bring the occasional blitz but don’t rely on it. Meanwhile the Falcons will be eating cheesehead a$$ and the clock. 31-17 Falcons. Wait till you see our new and improved cheese-grinding D.

Now on to the game…..

DOL,
Thanks for the schedule. As an avid fan, I was thinking about how this would affect guys getting to the facility. Here are a few keys for one of the biggest games in franchise history:
(1) We need a big games rom Thomas DeCoud and William Moore. Seriously. These guys have to tackle in open field and play a helluva mid-range game. Meaning: They cant fly out with their backpedals but they also need to get back back. #28 and #25 must take a few chances too against Rodgers. DeCoud was made to look silly in their last meeting. Moore has been trending down in pass coverage. There will be a direct correlation between Moore and DeCoud’s play and the probability that Falcons win.
(2) Falcons must shut the Packers run game down early. Don’t let this new guy get out of the gate and watch #30 on screens and short dump offs. Linebackers must me smart…we need our #50 to very good against the pass this week.
(3) Ryan and Co. should continue their ball-hawking ways and control time of possesion. We Turner to HIT THE HOLE this week. None of this sidestep business. Snelling could be a big factor for Ryan in mid-range passing game. Just like Rodgers does with #30, we need to use our #44. Look for #83 Douglas to make a difference this week,
(4) Turnovers will be key. Ryan should miss long on deeply thrown balls. Turner should cover it up…get into hole, pick up 7 and GET DOWN.
(5) Birds can win again, if safties play and they win the turnover battle: 24-17

Bottom line, we beat the Pack once, no reason we can’t do it again. I expect a tight close game because Mularkey is conservative to the extreme but we will prevail. The Packers have a running game for 1 game and all of a sudden we should fear that?? The national media is a joke. We are very closely matched but with the Dome Field advantage, I like our chances! Please use Finn, don’t relegate him to the sidelines. And some screen passes to Snelling would be most excellent! Glad Abe isn’t hurt, players should probably camp out at the Branch until this weather clears up. Go Birds!!!

1. “That being said”

2. Analyst, and people who fancy themselves as such referring to young players (22+yo men) as “kids”. Are they children or goats?
3. Anything more about Katrina, the Super Bowl appearence the NFL arranged to help pump $ into a below sea level cesspool and especially, “Who Dat”.

Saturday’s game will be reeeeal interesting. Neither team will get blown out. Both teams are good, with first-rate quarterbacks. I still think the Falcons defense has weaknesses, but it’s played hard and stepped up all season. I’m betting Matt Ryan gets a longer leash if things get too tight. The Falcons can’t afford to fall behind early in the game, if at all. I have a gut feeling Tony G. will be critical to Falcon fortunes in this game. I just hope GB comes in believing the media hype.

It’s amazing how the stooges come out every time the Falcons play a historically successful team…are even one-tenth of you “Pack fans” even from anywhere remotely around Green Bay? Sheer demographic fact answers that question perfectly…I would venture to guess that you are all pretender morons who latched on to Green Bay because they were mildly successful in past years and you like their uniform colors or something. I’ve seen all you poseur jerks at the Dome with your dumb outfits and cheese heads, etc…pretty comical if you ask me.

Trash talk. Trash talk. It’s fires up the innards. It swells your head and your other parts down below. Ultimately, it’s just what the first word says ‘trash’. Throw it out and take some time to come up with something that really matters.
Like GB thinking that they have suddenly acquired balance that they didn’t have the first time they played us. Don’t start with the woulda coulda shouda. If GB had a better backup QB, they would have beat the Pats instead of flubbing the last minute of the game. EVERYBODY has a would coulda shouda.
Like GB’s inconsistency, not beating the teams they were supposed to beat earlier. That’s why they end up a wild card instead of a higher seed (losses to Miami, Redskins, Detroit(!!!!!)
Inconsistency was the killer for the Saints. It will be the killer for the Pack.
Come back when you’re a more complete team.

People make some of the dumbest statements…The “fragile” Matt Ryan? I like Aaron Rodgers and I think he’s a great QB but let’s hope that he doesn’t hit his head too hard on the dome turf as he’s already had two concussions this year. Now give the ATL some respect.
And to all the northerner’s who wonder why ATL shuts down when it snows. Well, it’s real simple. It might snow down here once a year or every other year; therefore, the state doesn’t think its important enough to warrant spending millions of dollars on equipment to clear roadways and people don’t buy snow tires that get crappy gas mileage just to use them once. So, not like you guys are that smart because you can drive in the snow. Is there anything else you would like to know?

Now that the Falcons have won the championship…there are many of you who have jumped on the wagon at the last minute saying things like “we should do this , they should do that”..then we have those relocated CHEESEHEADS down here who have brought there LOYALITY with them saying “IF we hadn’t done this and we had done that we would have beat you”….IF IF IF… if the word “IF” counts for anything the PACK would have been THE #1 SEED so stop bitching and bring your #6 seeded team back here… so we can give you and your team a long LOSING ride back to Green Bay…..

Having seen both the Packers and Falcons from one of the best vantage points in the games, I’m taking the Packers. The Falcons are over rated and while Ryan is a good quarterback, he’s quite inexperienced when it comes to the playoffs. If the Packers tackle and don’t turn the ball over, the season will be over the Falcons. Go Pack!

Prediction:
Falcons beat Packers 27-20 and go on to play Bears in NFC Title Game.
Media’s totally predictable story:
“Falcons have no chance against dangerous Cutler and the Urlacher led Bears defense.”
This has been the theme all year. Every game we are treated to all the reasons why Atlanta can never beat “X” opponent. Then when they do, it was just a fluke and their next opponent “Y” will expose them. Only, Atlanta just keeps winning. I guess the sports media guys are just about as good at covering stories as their regular media counterparts these days….

Props to the ATL for winning the first time, but the Packer team they’ll see take the Dome on Sat. is vastly different than the one they squeaked past over Turkey Day Weekend. Remember, the Pack had a goal line fumble and outgained ATL 418-294, with no real semblance of a running game. Provided Starks is no aberration, that could provide the difference for a GB win. Either way it should be an epic battle.

Isn’t this the same Packer team that lost to Detroit, Washington and oh yeah.. The Falcons! One game does not make a running game. Philly was in bad form, looking confused and on a trhee game loosing streak, and almost beat these guys! I expect to see 6 birds on every tackle. Running with a lead is different than running when you are behind. The running game doesn’t mean squat when you are behind and you have to throw on every down which leads to inflated yardage totals.
TD and MS have focused on speed in the last three drafts and it really shows. After watching these dirty birds swarm all of the Brees and the (S)Aint’s I am impressed with the way our D is coming together, gaining momentum and playing with energy.
Our team is health, and ready. We are playing for national respect, and that is plenty of motivation for any team.
Business as usual. Bird win!

This is(was) as good a scenario as the Falcons could have hoped for.
They will be at home. They have had a week off. They will be facing a Green Bay team coming off a physical and emotional win and playing in a short week.
If you wonder whether the Falcons are good enough to beat Green Bay, maybe you’ve forgotten that they beat this team in November 20-17 at the Georgia Dome, when the defense wasn’t nearly as good as it is now.

Plus, since we don’t get snow often, we don’t have the equipment (snow plows and trucks, etc) to clean the roads off like you do. The few equipment that we have only clears the interstates. I don’t know who will win this game, but some clarification needs to be made to some of comments on this blog that don’t make any sense. Some people seem really upset by Packer fan entires on this site.
1. You will always see Packer fans make comments on this blog. They have a lot of fans everywhere because they have existed in the NFL since 1921 (they were formed in 1919.) The Falcons started in 1965
2. The Packers are the only pro team owned by regular people that own the stock. You will not see an owner walking the sidelines because there are 1,000’s of owners.
3. The Packers are the most successful NFL franchise and have won the most championhsips . See the listing towards the bottom of the page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_National_Football_League_Championship4. Packer fans are not “fair weather” like some teams. They will be there win or lose every season.
5. Thanks to Atlanta for giving the Packers one of the greatest quarterback evey it the dumbest trades of all time – Brett Favre.

The falcons better have their running game going on, and all their offence of weapons ready. The defence has to step up big in this one. I hope the Falcons have a good game plan. Lets go Falcons .

Go to the fudge packer web site and click on the preview of the game on Saturday night and scroll down to the blogs and see these oh so nice cheeseheads are saying about the Falcons. You think you are going to bbq 2 birds after Saturday ? Y’all better take a good look at your offense against a sub par Eagles defense. Only 21 points ? Really ? Make all the excuses you want about week 11 and you better get a voodoo witch doctor for Woodson , cause he’s not feelin so well. I will be in the stand and throw a triple whopper with cheese to B.J Raje or whatever the hell his name is and he’ll stop running and munch down get cramps. If Clay Mathews had a sack below, he will promise to cut his hair if he can beat the birds. That’s right, he wouldn’t , cause they all still feel they can’t win here. OUR HOUSE, OUR TIME, RISE UP , GO BIRDS. Screw respect , let’s get a win and shut them all up.

The Falcons Need To Rise Up. For One, in our last game versus the Panthers, yes we killed them, but it should have been by way more. They need to learn that this is the Playoffs, this isn’t no time to lolly gag. They already knew in the season, they were going to the Playoffs. I could tell they didn’t care that much. Ovie Mughelli, wasn’t consistent. He is a great blocker, but lately he has become lazy. That’s what it looks like to me.
Falcons are better than this. We don’t deserve to lose first round. We need to win the Super Bowl, and prove the Media wrong. I don’t like the Media, and try to ignore them as much as possible. Oh, and one more thing: RISE UP! I’ll always be a Falcons Fan For Life, that’s just my Opinion.

This is perfect timing. The Packers are the hottest team in the NFL right now and they’re right in the middle of the playoffs. Their confidence and swagger is sky high. A victory over the Falcons should not be a problem. Happens every year. The hot team rolls through the playoffs. Sorry Atlanta, it ain’t your year.

What amazes me Atlanta fans is that none of you know how competitive Green Bay is. I’m not saying Green Bay is going to win but I think they have at least a decent chance. Green Bay has never trailed by more than 7 points at any point of any game all year. The 6 games they lost were by a combined 20 points and 2 of those games were OT losses. All I’m saying is that the game is either going to be a close game or a Green Bay blow out. When Green Bay gets up early it’s over. Matt Ryan has done a great job for your team but he is not close to as talented as A. Rodgers. If your running game gets shut down you will be one dimensional. Game over. Didn’t those Saints beat you a couple of weeks at home? Heck, I was hoping Green Bay was going to get a game in the dome. Get ready for the next 5 years because we have a lot of young talent. Did I mention Green Bay started 10 different starters in last weeks playoff game from last years playoff game? Lots of young talent with over 14 people on the IR. How many injuries do you have? Green Bay is going to be scary for a long, long time. Looking forward to the game.

AG, techically it’s 45 on game day, not 53 or 54. There’s a reason Green Bay fans were named the most knowledgable fans in the game by a landslide. You should have saw the poll in the lastest issue of SI. Over 300 players were surveyed.
