COACH SMITH’S SHOW CANCELED

–Coach Smith has canceled his radio show, Falcons Live, according to the team. He usually does it at a Sporting Good Store in Flowery Branch on Monday.

“Falcons Live: Come (Mike)  Smith Show has been canceled tonight due to the weather. We will advise if it gets rescheduled,” the team tweeted on its official twitter account.

FLOWERY BRANCH – The inclement weather should not effect the Falcons preparation for their divisional  playoff game with the Green Bay Packers set for 8 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Dome.

The coaches were at the facilities late Sunday putting their finishing touches on the game plan and likely stayed on-site in the dormitories.

Monday morning, the players were trying to make their way into the facilities for a  walkthrough practice that was schedule to start around 11 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m.

When the team gets assembled, they will likely hold their practice at the indoor facility and the team would have to option of moving everyone back into the dormitories, which is where they live during training camp.

Here’s the practice schedule for the rest of the week:

Monday — Team Walkthrough.

Tuesday – Practice 1:10 – 3 p.m. (Game Plan Installation)

The Falcons could be playing some billiards in the players' amenities building if they stay in the dormitories at Flowery Branch. (D. Orlando Ledbetter/Dledbetter@ajc.com)

Taking a minute to look at Thomas Dimitroff’s draft classes the last 3 years, look at 2008, how much further can you hit it out of the park?

Matt Ryan, Sam Baker, Curtis Lofton, Harry Douglas, Thomas DeCoud, Kroy Biermann.

I hear that the Packers and their fans are more accustomed to the snow than us Atlantans. That’s convenient, since both the Pack and their fans will be back in Green Bay for good after Saturday. Feel free to shovel our streets before you leave though.

I think Abe was just practicing driving in the snow because he wants to drive up to Wisconsin tomorrow and start sacking A. R. a few days early.

PACKbuzz: so we should learn how to drive in the snow, so we’ll be prepared for the 2 times a decade it actually snows here? You should be more concerned about Aaron’s view of the Georgia Dome roof from his back.

You Yankee Packers fans make me laugh. My mom left Manitowoc, Wisconsin when she was 18 on the first flight South. If ya’ll like it so much, then stay up there in that miserable freezing trashy state. I have been many times all over Wisconsin, and let me tell you, except for the Northern part of the State, it is truly a dump. Once again, proud and blessed to be from Georgia, and sweet Dixie.
Now on to the game…..
You had a running game for 1 game, and all of a sudden think you are balanced. I respect the Packers, but I fear no cheesehead. We will show you how to play some down South Georgia boy type football (again). And I don’t care if ya’ll know how to drive in snow, take that crap to a weather blog or something. Falcons win a close one, 24-17

You Pack fans sure do talk alot of Shi*!!! Just because Aaron Roagers won his first game and you rant the ball decent, doesn’t mean nothing. You guys have a great defense and Atlanta has a great Offense. This will be a great game. Go Falcons!

DOL,

Thanks for the schedule. As an avid fan, I was thinking about how this would affect guys getting to the facility. Here are a few keys for one of the biggest games in franchise history:

(1) We need a big games rom Thomas DeCoud and William Moore. Seriously. These guys have to tackle in open field and play a helluva mid-range game. Meaning: They cant fly out with their backpedals but they also need to get back back. #28 and #25 must take a few chances too against Rodgers. DeCoud was made to look silly in their last meeting. Moore has been trending down in pass coverage. There will be a direct correlation between Moore and DeCoud’s play and the probability that Falcons win.

(2) Falcons must shut the Packers run game down early. Don’t let this new guy get out of the gate and watch #30 on screens and short dump offs. Linebackers must me smart…we need our #50 to very good against the pass this week.

(3) Ryan and Co. should continue their ball-hawking ways and control time of possesion. We Turner to HIT THE HOLE this week. None of this sidestep business. Snelling could be a big factor for Ryan in mid-range passing game. Just like Rodgers does with #30, we need to use our #44. Look for #83 Douglas to make a difference this week,

(4) Turnovers will be key. Ryan should miss long on deeply thrown balls. Turner should cover it up…get into hole, pick up 7 and GET DOWN.

(5) Birds can win again, if safties play and they win the turnover battle: 24-17

Good luck blowing out the Pack. They haven’t trailed a game by more than a TD all season. Their defense is peaking and the offense can play with anyone. Should be a great game. Hopefully GB’s special teams decide to show up this time and not give the game away again.

Bottom line, we beat the Pack once, no reason we can’t do it again. I expect a tight close game because Mularkey is conservative to the extreme but we will prevail. The Packers have a running game for 1 game and all of a sudden we should fear that?? The national media is a joke. We are very closely matched but with the Dome Field advantage, I like our chances! Please use Finn, don’t relegate him to the sidelines. And some screen passes to Snelling would be most excellent! Glad Abe isn’t hurt, players should probably camp out at the Branch until this weather clears up. Go Birds!!!

True, last time the Packers were at the Georgia Dome, they trailed by less than a TD when the clock hit 0:00.

Strangely, according to the NFL rule book, that’s still a loss for the Packers. Who knew?

How the heck is GB going to blow out Atlanta when they could barely bet an awful Philly team. Eagles looked awful and GB barely won. Sure, i would rather play Seattle, but Phillly had lost 2 at home 2 finish the regular season. Falcons finished strong. ESPN loves those northern teams (pro AND college-OSU, ND, etc) because no one in NY or Chicago, etc… pulls for southern teams. Go Falcons, Saints are dead, yea!

Yes, we have trouble driving in the snow and ice. I’ve been hearing that crap for the past 40 years since I moved here to get away from the S&I. We don’t pay tax to remove the rare frozen stuff.
In Green Bay, 1. there aren’t hills like ours 2. you aren’t smart enough to move the hell out of that @#*% hole 3. you CAN drive in the snow. That and $5 will get you a frozen cup of coffee if they even have a Starbucks in GB 4. you can huddle around the fire Sunday morning and talk about how you “shoulda” won 5. get a life

I have been saying since last before the draft last year that the Falcons would be in the SuperBowl.

My wife wanted me to stoop saying it…you look stupid, the Falcons aren’t going to the SuperBowl.

I believed then and I believe even more now. There is not a team that the Falcons can not beat in this race.

We just have to play smart and hard, take advantage of the breaks that come our way and keep the breaks to the other teams to a minimum.

That being done, we will be The NEW SuperBowl Champions!!!!
