Todd McClure feels awful about botched snap

Falcons center Todd McClure had a shotgun snap skid back to Matt Ryan.

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma pounced on the ball at the 34-yard line. The Saints converted the turnover into a touchdown.

“The nose of the ball got caught on the turf,” McClure told the AJC’s Steve Hummer. “I feel just awful about it. That has never happened to me before and of all the games for it to happen.  …I put the team in a terrible position. I just felt awful. A terrible feeling.”

Don’t lay in this botched snap issue too long Todd. You have to put it in the past much like a Quarterback would after throwing a pick six. Its not an issue that we see out of you all the time so just move on because we have.

We will run into the Saints and other great teams later on next month. Pack your A’ Game for the rematch and lets get the running game going so your not snapping from the shot gun so often….

I guess if he’s being honest I should feel for the dude, but that was no snap. He literally tried to roll the ball five yards back to Ryan in the shot gun. I’ve never seen that happen in 50 years of watching football — including PeeWee League. To make matters worse, he made absolutely no attempt to recover it. None. Rose up like all was well in the world and began blocking their left tackle. He is from Louisianna is he not? Just wondering…

My point basically is he should have been the first to “know” it was a botched “snap” and would have tried to recover it. Oh well. Maybe he should lose the idiotic Mohawk and perhaps Matty Ice can finally get a haircut. Go Falcons.

He may be from Louisiana, if he is lucky. However, he played like a true Falcant. I agree, a botch is a botch, but acting like nothing happen, when playing the WORLD CHAMPIONS. Well, that is the Falcant in him. You got to go for the ball, especially when you are the first one to notice it is rolling around. No excuse for that. But for the botch, just bad luck. You should have begged to try out for the Saints. We could have put you on our developmental squad.

Got to love Saints “fans” coming on Atlanta forums and talking trash. They’re as excited as their players who were stomping on the Falcons’ logos and taking pictures at midfield after the game. For the mighty “defending Super Bowl champs,” you’d think a wild-card berth and no home playoff games wouldn’t be a big deal.

2 turnovers cost us the game, McClure and Turner. haters can’t blame Ryan for this one.

Great plays by Abraham and Davis. Can I get a little respect for Grimes?

Defense played great, except I wish Williams could have hit Brees more, he kept missing him. And Dunta let that long ball go right through his hands.

Is it me, or is Turner getting fat?

Ladies and Gentleman, its the game of (American) Football, things happen, some good, some bad, while so many are frustrated, irritated, and ready to punch the first sAINT Fan that they see….I personally look at this as a great lesson for the Falcons (Offense), lets face it, we were probably bound to lose one more game in pursuit of a Super Bowl Victory, this loss to the sAINT’S( who really needed this win a little more) will help the Falcons as they go in to the playoffs with homefield advantage. For example, do you really think Todd McClure and M. Turner would dare to make critical fumbles like the one’s from last night after getting cursed out in film session this upcoming week? Also, the defense look very good, against one of the premiere QB’s in the league, this could be just the boast of confidence that the D needs to get over the hump. Trust me Falcon Fans, this was just one loss, and unfortunately it just occurred to our arch rivals, but the Falcon Nation will prevail, I only pray that we can see this team again in the playoffs… This BATTLE isn’t over yet…….

Having played O line, the only time anyone sees your number is when you make a mistake. Todd McClure is normally a rock in the middle who gets little credit. It pisses me off when some couch potato opens his pie hole and starts criticizing guys like McClure and Turner (who finally fumbled, like that wasn’t going to happen one day). Take a shot from a 330 pound tackle someday, then you can run your mouth.

I thought the offensive play calling on the series immediately after Abraham batted down and then intercepted the ball to be the worst I saw all night. Not getting a score at this point gave NO the momentum to turn the game around. We had already seen that NO was dead on Turner all night and he wasn’t going to be able to hit the line with his short stubby strides and be able to pick up any yardage. Our receivers couldn’t get open at all as Ryan absolutely had to thread the needle on any completions unlike Brees. He was able to hit wide open guys at will and to me that was the difference in the score.

Part of me is happy we lost because it bring light to some glaring issues with the team and situational playcallinh by Mularkey (I personally think he is highly overrated). That said I see the Saints fans have forgotten that we beat them in their stadium this season. I keep reading their posts about what the Falcons aren’t but what they are is a 12-3 team that the defending champs barely beat with the game handed to them. McClure’s bad snap an Turner’s fumble were Christmas presents and the Saints only won by 3. I’ll take my chances with this team I. The playoffs regardless of location, I like our squad.

Wow DOL, I hope you didn’t hurt yourself writing six lines on this topic. As usual, you dig deep in the locker room and give us real in-depth insight to what is going on. He screwed up and feels bad about it. I never would have guessed it. How about getting something from Mularky on why he didn’t use Gonzalez or Roddy White? Or why the “getting plump again” Michael Turner cant make it to the edge? I know somebody might have asked the forth down question, but that was inexcuseable. Smitty’s excuse is not good enough. Three and and out is a three and out wether it is at their 20 or their 40 yard line. If you go for it they may never see the ball again. Wasted opportunity.

Proud of the effort the team put forth, unhappy with the coaching decisions that the defensive and offensive coordinators made.

The defense used the blitz all night until crunch time and then allowed a Saints team that was not able to solve the blitz to beat us because we dropped the blitz in favor of a conventional defense playing right into Payton and Brees strenghts, result, loss game.

The offense failed to use its most valuable weapon, that is, to let Matty Ice run the hurry up offense, result, loss game.

I am realy proud of the effort that I saw out of the team and yet dissapointed with the coaching decisions, coaches who have all year helped this team win. This just goes to show you that you can’t win by running scared and not using your best tools.

again the Falcons humiliate and embarass their fans on Monday Night Football. pathetic! but overall this was Mike Mularkey’s loss! the Saints were determined to take Turner away and they did and Mularkey kept running plays that the Saints knew were coming. they want Turner let them have him! do something else, make them stop that, then use Turner. but not bonehead Mularkey, who’s probably a decendent of those that thought Pickett’s charge/s was a good idea. try screen passes, quick slant passes. no, not Mularkey he’s going to attavk that fort at it’s strongest point and when that doesn’t work he’s going to attack that fort at it’s strongest point again. pure stubborness and arrogance on the part of Mularkey who lost this game all by himself! moron!

I have been saying it all year. We need some speed in the backfield to test the edges and open up the middle for the run. I was hoping they would have addressed it last year in the draft because we all knew Norwood is not dependable. Our defense played as well as could be expected against the Saints. Offense was a major disappointment. I would have at least expected a few drives with field goals.

Two turnovers hurt bad, offensive line need to work harder. Offensive coordinator must create passing situation with tightend or big receiver like Finneran coming out of the backfield. Snelling/Turner open coming out of the backfield, ball is getting to them to late. You got to make other teams linebackers and safeties work with short passes in strive to RB, TE, BIG Wideouts coming off the edge of the offense. In these same plays wideouts must work hard downfield to get open also and Matt Ryan got to think fast. Offensive coordinator must get aggressive, after J. Abraham interception, we played to conservative, I thought Matt Ryan grew up in the Ravens and Green Bay game, we want to win a SUPER BOWL NOW.

It seemed as if Ryan did not check off plays last night. I wonder if they reined him in. I almost got the feeling that the Falcons were holding back on their game plan just in case they meet them again. Not a bad move because Saints and Falcons will play in the first round of the divisional playoffs. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Regardless who wins the division because Seeds 1 and 5 belong to the NFC South. Seed 5 will beat the 8-8 Rams or 7-9 Seahawks.

The Falcons are a good team but they are not a championship team. A championship team look like the Steelers, Patriots, Saints, Eagles. Seldomly said, the offensive line of the Falcons are great as a unit but individually they are not physical. Drew Brees is a winner, he’s more than a QB, he’s a football player. Playing calling for the Saints and the ability for the Saints to make a play was outstanding. Dunta Roberson is overpaid and overrated. He got torched last night. Malarkey is overrated and call they game last night way too conservative. The offensive line cannot out man anybody one one one. They are not a physical bunch.

Only fans who have been with Falcons since 1966 understand how truly deep this home defeat goes. New fans do not have a clue! First of all the Falcons are the Rodney Dangerfield of NFL. No respect. I must admit that respect has yet to be earned despite misleading overall record. This was a MUST WIN game for FALCONS! It does not matter if Falcons rip Panthers 100-0. Damage has already been done! Saints now KNOW they can defeat Falcons in Georgia Dome. Falcon defense will never play any better! Falcon offense can perform even worse. Does not bode well for possible third meeting in playoffs even at hallowed Dome. Anyone watch movie Replacements? Remember that well. With exception of missed tackles on blizes plus long late Saint drive I have never seen Falcon D perform so gallantly or courageously. Did somebody resurrect the Grits Blitz of Jerry Glanville? Sure looked like it! Offense resembled those of Chris Miller or Jeff George. Three plays then punt! The Saints said well in advance that, “We are coming to your house, slap your mother, beat you up, have our way with your sister then broadcast the entire scenario to the whole world.” THEN THEY DID! Guess Roddy White was too busy texting his greatness to bother catching any passes in most important game in Falcon franchise history. Thanks Roddy! Oh and thanks for that goal line fumble which kept Saints alive Michael Turner. Overrated untalented bum! Do not even get me started on the heartless Falcon center. A team destined for greatness would have kicked the Saints back to the Bayou then wished then well for another similiar treatment in a few weeks. Falcon offense rolled over and died! If Matt Ryan wishes to be considered among elite he MUST win games like this one! Such a defensive performance simply cannot be wasted. The Saints will adjust completely if there is a third meeting. Book on that! This one hurts as much if not more than playoff losses to Cowboys and Cardinals. Those were winnable too! :( :( :( :( STENDEK

What would set us back for years however……….. the thing that would bring out the “same ole Falcons” crowd……… would be if we fold and lose to the Panthers. THAT would do it.

Turner never fumbles and McClure never blows a snap. And what was up with that double pass interference call? Yet the Aints had to have all of this to beat us by 3? How many bad punts for the Aints hit just right and rolled in their favor? And then the Aints fans come here to gloat? Sometimes the best team doesn’t win. They will come back here over confident just like their classless fans and not get all those breaks. Then we’ll finally be rid of their trolls.

very bizzare fumble, it looked like he never even followed through with the snap, it was like a tenth of a normal motion, or he never even had a grip of the ball or somethin! still though he is our guy, and we love him, and we need him, one fumble in 15 games and countless snaps does not make McClure the villain! i would still take him for what he means to this team over all of the other centers in the league, Todd, be proud, hold your head up high, you are still part of the reason why we have the best record in the NFC, and will have home field all the way through playoffs!

No need to be down about this loss. Our mistakes beat us, not the Saints. BVG got his guys in place all night, flying around and in Brees’ face and so many times we just didn’t finish it off by planting his ugly mug in the turf. This team is on the march forward. Those of you that want to gripe and complain move over and get out of the way. This team is still at least a year away from being a totally dominating team and Dimitroff and Smith and this coacing staff will get us where we want to be and that’s the New England of the NFC. We may win it all this year, we may not, but given another off season we’ll be better next year and the year after that. Enjoy the ride, it’s finally here. bert,

I wouldn’t say best team but perhaps best overall QB, Ryan still needs some work even though I believe he is good enough to get us to the promise land. Both teams seem very evenly matched, Turner seems a little more established as a RB compared to N.O.s Backs but Turner needs to be a little more shiftly, but unfortunately he just isn’t that type of back, he made to pound defenses, not to out run them… this is where Jerious Norwood’s injury begins to really hurt us… Hope to see the Saints in the second round, because without our two fumbles (despite Bree’s two interceptions) the outcome of this game would have been totally different.

I have been a season ticket holder for many years. I have never seen an opposing team act as ignorant as the Saints fans did last night. Cursing, racial slurs about Roddy White, talking about Matt Ryan’s Mother, players stomping on our logo and taking pictures, whistling throughout the entire game were enough for me to say that I doubt if I ever go back to another Saints game. Security was called and they did nothing but smile and play with the NO fans. I guess security must be a transplant who happens to work in Atlanta as well. Truly classless for a bunch of SB champs. Excellent comments here particularly from “older” Falcon fans who have been embarrassed by similar losses in the past, Cowboys in 1980 being the most difficult to swallow from my point of view. Don’t ever bring up the grits blitz again!!! I shiver with shame every time I think about those days. The Falcons have handed the momentum to the ‘aints once again failing to perform in prime-time (no Deon reference intended) when it matters most. ATL will never get rid of the “loserville” moniker until we can win something more than a division title. Yes I know… the Falcons went to the Superbowl once before, but only because the Vikings belly-flopped and handed it to us that year. And I don’t have enough space here to discuss the Braves, but could we PLEASE get rid of the Florida State chant? During last night’s game, the defense showed that they can take it to the next level! Now it’s the offense’s turn. Fortunately, we are in an excellent position to do just that. Here’s hoping our coaching staff has the capability to put together a new, more creative game plan to become less predictable. We have the players. The fans are turned on. The time is right. Let’s do this thing and make ATL more than just a second rate city for pro sports. After all… if the ‘aints did it… anyone can!!! Go Falcons!!!!

Why did J.Abraham NOT lateral the intercepted pass to Beerman..Who had a wide open field?
WHAT is a double interference call?
The Falcons still have to BEAT the Panthers..No gimmies in the NFL!
Why did the Falcons abandon the PASS?? N/O proved they could not defend it..all they could do was interfear!
Our COACHING staff can not match up withe the better clubs!
Why are our Player-Coaches spending more time in the media than the PLAYBOOK?
When will management deal with R.White’s MOUTH?
WHEN will M.Ryan give way to C.Redman when it’s evident he is having a “stinky” game?

COACHING FAILURE!

WE HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER TEAM WITH A COACH CALLING HIGH SCHOOL TYPE PLAY SEQUENCES! THE COACHING STAFF REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE WHAT THE COACHES OF THE OTHER TEAMS ALREADY KNOW.

Our defense played at a level that would let Atlanta beat any team in the NFL. Our offense was defeated before the initial kickoff. New Orleans knew exactly the offensive approach that our offense would take. New Orleans knew we would stick to the offensive approach at all costs no matter how many times if would fail. New Orleans knew our offensive strategy better than our own coaches. Our basic offensive strategy was to win the game based on the running of Michael Turner. He is one man. Stop him with this offensive strategy in place and you stop the Falcons.

Our offense played with one arm tied behind it back because of the predictable play call of Mike Malarkey. Two catches for Tony Gonzalez and three catches for Roddy White says it all. I am wondering if Dan Henning is secretly calling the plays from Miami. I remember when he coached the Falcons; he did not coach to win. In 2004, Carolina Panther fans created a petition for the firing of Dan Henning. The petition said Henning has showed that he does not play to win. Winning requires scoring points. I think Malarkey wants to win but his play calling does not support this objective. Malarkey calls plays in the the same manner as Dan Henning.

DO YOU READERS THINK WE CAN WIN A SINGLE PLAYOFF GAME IF WE OPERATE OUR OUR OFFENSE THIS WAY WITH NEW ORLEANS AGAIN OR PHILADELPHIA?

I have said this MANY times in posts during the year. Our play calling is too predictable!!! It is obvious that NEW ORLEANS knew our usual sequence of how Mike Malarkey calls the plays. We were beaten before the initial kick-off.

There are too many Turner runs on first and second down when he has 0, -1, -2, -3, ,,,, -5 yards to put the team in a no-win situation. Then Matt Ryan is under pressure to make a first on third down.

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU READERS SEEN THIS HAPPEN THIS YEAR?

IAfter the Jenkins interference in the end zone, our objective should have been to score points NOT to prove that Turner can run the ball into the end zone. A play action pass would have been a great first down play call. We didn’t learn on the first attempt, so let’s run Turner again. We beat ourselves.

After the Abraham interception, there are no excuses for not scoring points. This type of scoring urgency has been the norm all year. We are playing the big boys now, not the losers of the NFL.

If Mike Smith continues to let Malarkey call plays like he does, then Mike Smith is part of the problem too.

The Falcons had won 8 in a row. The chances of them winning 13 in a row was not very likely. I am glad we got our loss out of the way this week. I also would not want to beat the Saints then loose to the Panthers. I would hate to be going into the play off’s on a loss. This coming weekends win over Carolina will propell us into the play off’s on a win and the home field advantage all the way to the Super Bowl.

It is true that the coaching staff is not a good game time group. Either the defence is playing the ‘prvent us from winning’ defence or the offense is playing Big 10 college running game. For better or for worse this is the NFL in 2010 and you must pass and score points to win. Running is not going to get it. Especially when you have a great passer at QB like Ryan.

This may have been good to wake up the Falcons to the reality that they have to want it more then the other team. Talk is cheap you must execute.

Last night confirmed one and done for sure and really shouldn’t be there in the first place when you look at how some of the games were won. We were not ahead of San Francisco until winning in the end and they’ve only won five games. More luck than skill to say the least this year.

Todd, your victory over the Saints in New Orleans was because of a missed FG in OT! The Falcons won – the Saints were not beat, but GAVE THAT GAME AWAY! Last nights game was supposed to be an offensive spectacular, but BOTH DEFENSES TOOK CENTRAL STAGE! The other KEY as mentioned by several others was GAME PLANNING and ADJUSTMENTS! Last night, the Saints staff out coached the Falcons staff.

I believe the plan all along was to stay very conservative on offense. The assumption being that if we could beat the Saints with that then we would be in excellent shape should we meet again in the playoffs, being able to open up the offense and really bringing the offensive pressure. I think the Saints planned for just this game plan knowing the Falcons would be conservative on offense thus stuffing our running game. The defense was let lose to give the offense a chance to win the game with this conservative offensive game-plan and almost worked.

The Saints only hope was to lay everything out on the table as they have to win two games to have any chance for the division. They brought it all and still barely won. Atl was not in that dire predicament and could play more conservatively. I seriously doubt we will see our offense tonight in the playoffs.

Just looking at the big picture.

I totally agree with all of the fans who are blasting Mularkey. The offensive play calling was pathetic. Since we have to deal with him for the remainder of this year, hopefully some team will come get him as their head coach and remove him from the Falcons’ organization.

There were absolutely no offensive adjustments made in the second half of the game.

To have a botched snap is not so bad but to see Matt Ryan staring at the ball while it rolled on the turf was sickening. He made no effort to fall on the ball.

Drew Brees did his best Brett Farve *on field* imitation last night and made the fumbled snap a wash.
Where is Mularkey’s apology for running up the middle 2 times in a row on 1st and 2nd and goal @ the 1? Turner’s for just letting go of the ball? Weems for his awful punt *not* catching abilities?

The OC needs to evolve this offense and add some plays to move the ball.
Wonders if Weems, Douglas, or anyone else can run a screen or reverse….

As a die hard Saints fan living in Atlanta, I gotta say “Who Dat”!
Great defensive game on both teams, falcons have been playing great and we’ve been good (but still doing better than any other superbowl team following the championship). We both needed this game, Falcons for the respect and Saints to lock the playoff….glad we got the win!
What I’m a little surprised about is the recent turn the talk between the two teams and fans have turned. I’m only 37, but have participated in Saints/Falcons games in both cities most of my life and never saw things get so ugly….esecially the low blows by Rocddy Wrong. Yes, the team did a lot for our city, but it was NOT the citizens of N.O. constantly bringing up Katrina, it was the media. I’ve been in Atlanta for 10 years, when it flooded earlier this year and less then a hundred homes flooded…the media made it 24/7 news and the local news LOVES to stay on 24/7 when it rains…now imagine the whole city underwater and how long you would have to hear about it. Also, how much more you would appreciate your team when they step up to the plate and help out more than expected!??!! Let’s get back to the good old days where the dirty birds share their wings at the Ga. dome and we share our gumbo at the Superdome…regardless of who’s on top! Geaux Saints!!!!

Sidenote…
I was there too but it isnt 1980, Leeman Bennet is not the HC, we are not “turning the corner” nor is the team owned by nitwits.
Just like with a lot of teams, there is a history of failure, but now is an obvious rising tide.
If our 3rd year QB stays healthy and progressing, he will outshine his competition for years to come.

To all the Aints fans…(injury aside) how much do you think 11th year QB has remaining in that surgically repaired arm? Youve won a SB, didnt get better during the offseason, and are showing the decline. Your defensive stars have grey hair as does the o-line. Across the division all three other teams are younger and getting better. (Carolina has the first pick and will have a new QB in 2011) I’m pretty sure you will see exactly what I mean next Sunday when Tampa comes by to see you.
The Aints window is closing…and fast. The Falcons window has been forced open a year early and with proper GM work, looks good for several years to come.

I’ve also been in Atlanta for over 10 years and also a die hard saints fan. What I find funny is other than the handful of true, real, die hard falcon fans….I’ve never thought this city appreciated their football and basketball teams unless they are winning. PLEASE stop the whole “we support our team win or lose”…so NOT true. I’ve gone to falcon games where there was more black in gold than red…and this was in losing seasons! I’ve got pics of falcon fans sleep in the stands! I do know some really good, old school atlanta fans, but they are so far and in between. In most cities you see the team logo on cars, business windows, eveywhere…in Atlanta you rarely see a falcon decal on a car (but you definitely will see a Braves/Thrashers/UGA/Tech). So to all the real falcon fans….good game, see you soon! To the fairweather band waggon jumpers…keep talking about things you know nothing about and go check out our championship ring!

The Falcons lost to a better Saints team last night “PERIOD”!

Could the OC called better plays on the one yardline “YES” — The botched snap “could it have been provented from happening “MAYBE” — Did we collect two critical turnovers on them “YES” and only produce points (7) on one of the two “YES” — The Saints produced (10) points on the two turnovers by the Falcons. There ya go we lose by 3 points!
I was very impressed with the defensive play — to me the defensive performance last night was the “BEST” performance this whole season. If this defensive unit now,,,,is an indication of how they will & should perform in the next three weeks up to for the divisional playoff game then folks we are in the playoffs for 5 more weeks!

Notice a trend of past tense here?

You will soon because your observation that teams rebuild and restructure is correct. Your oblivious to the fact that your team has crested the hill and is on the way down. Your window is closing…and this year. Of course, we here in Atlanta would be very happy to see you keep those long timers around.

Although the botched snap hurt, the falcon can pin this loss soley on ryan weak arm as well as the transparency of the play calling. it look like to me that dan henning himself was calling the play. First Down….Run; Second Down…Run; Third Down…..short pass underneith; Forth Down….Punt. This happen the whole game. Kudos to the saint defence for dominating the falcon offence. Even though it aint hard to dominate when you know the play. it a shame that the falcon could get nothing done on offence. Ryan let our defence out to dry. Thanks ryan.

Go Falcons!! It was good to lose this game. We now know what adjustments we need in order to win in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl!! Our offense will improve from these mistakes. We definitley need to air it out more down field especialy when they contained the run like they did last night. We have too much talent and heart to roll over.. Our city should be proud and not disappointed in a young talented team such as what we have. “Why didn’t McClure recover it?” “Why didn’t Ryan jump on it?” “Why didn’t Abraham lateral to Biermann?”

Have any of you idiots ever PLAYED football??? You don’t stand flatfooted thinking ‘I better make sure the snap is perfect before I move. . . ‘ you anticipate. Ryan starts his drop as soon as he says hike. . every QB from high school up does it. McClure is moving into his blocking assignment as soon as he moves his arm. So in other words, Ryan and McClure are moving away from the ball while Vilma, blitzing on the play, is heading right for it. Defenses recover fumbled snaps about 80% of the time.

And if Abraham had lateraled, Biermann had botched it and the Saints got it back, all of you would be going crazy saying Abraham should have just hit the ground.

We stole the game from the Aints in New Orleans in September, and last night they stole one back. People, calm down and learn the game before criticizing those who make seven figures playing it.

They’re in the playoffs, they’ll take care of the kitty cats this Sunday (and i’ll be there!!) and we’ll take our first round bye and get ready for war. All is not lost people. Some Falcons fans and ALL Saints fans just don’t get what happened last night!!! The answer: NOTHING!!!

The real season doesn’t start until the regular season ends! These guys are professionals and know this.It all about getting inot post season play, which… the Falcons already had.

A week from now when the Falcons are at home on their BYE and the Saints are having to play on the road, this game will have been forgotten. If this were a playoff game where it’s “won or done” and BOTH teams had something on the line, I think it would have been a different game all together.

Did anyone look at replay of this snap, look at Ryan looking at the ball on the ground and jumping back like a scared little girl, he made NO attempt tp pick it up and had best chance to recover which is why center went up into backing off attacking Saints when he realized ball was going behind him, kinda like the first wave of an on sides kick that blocks so guys behind them pick up ball! This game was simple, take away the run game and let Ryan pass, almost all the receivers were in man coverage all night daring Ryan to throw it and left extra guy in box up front to block run game!
As for this is good for them to get it put the way, don’t think so! You just went up on a national stage at home where you are supposedly unbeatable and got thoroughly beat in EVERY category by the better team. It’s funny when RBs are trying not to fumble, or centers trying not to mess up snap, and QBs trying not to throw interceptions, the exact opposite seems to happen and all that confidence from season is suddenly gone! So after a game against worst team in NFL, and a week off, then the Saints will be back, EXCEPT THIS TIME THEY BRING IVORY AND A RUN GAME not yet seen by almost anyone except for 1st qtr of ravens game before ivory got hurt. Saints have 3 super RB’s with completely different running styles and this is the 3 headed monster the Saints are saving for playoffs! Any Falcon fan should be very worried cause aside from a gift wrapped pass to Chauncy, the offense only put up 7 on a drive that was 50% penalty yards! Also the first win in week 3 came off a missed glorified extra point that was so automatic, they tried it ON FIRST DOWN and missed by freak bad luck, not because of anything Falcons did! So Falcons should be glad they weren’t swept thanks to botched kick!

I was born in New Orleans and have been a Saints fan my whole life. I honestly thought that the Falcons would win because of Todd’s and Tony’s determination and character. I know that both of them played their hearts out. Don’t you think that Todd would want to beat the Saints? For all of you complainers, you don’t deserve to have Todd and Tony on your team. O-Line: Falcons will replace nearly everyone on that O-Line in 2 seasons. Look at the recent draft picks…

Defense: I think that Champ Bailey would be interested in signing with The Falcons, and there are some CBs and DEs available in the draft. I saw Falcons Defensive Coordinator, BVG point to the brain to SS William Moore after the last Saints TD. They are young back there and are about to be younger. A Champ signing (even with a 1st round CB rookie coming in) would give them a pure cover man, and not just a zone CB for a couple of seasons. This secondary is opportunistic on tipped INTS, but they don’t step in front of passes underneath (except Tampa Bucs).

Play-calling: Falcons “closed-up shop” early (in a big game).. They seemed to hope to sit on the lead that DE Davis gave them.. Saints just doubled WR Roddy White and TE Gonzalez.. Falcons don’t seem to trust Jenkins or Douglass.. If they don’t see many passes, they won’t be ready! Jenkins burns teams with the slants… They throw the ball too deep for Douglass.. Ryan over-tosses it in the zone. It’s only going to be more difficult to run, and they’ve lost the enthusiasm of The Georgia Dome home crowd for The Playoff games (if they defeat Carolina).

If the Falcons staff sacrificed that game to cover schemes for the playoffs, and another possible game against The Saints, they don’t deserve their jobs..

I doubt they would do such a thing.. They called “vanilla plays” seemed like an attempt to “steal the game” with little risk, and sit -on their lead that DE Davis gave them with the INT for a TD.

“Got to love Saints “fans” coming on Atlanta forums and talking trash. They’re as excited as their players who were stomping on the Falcons’ logos and taking pictures at midfield after the game. For the mighty “defending Super Bowl champs,” you’d think a wild-card berth and no home playoff games wouldn’t be a big deal.”

How does it feel Falcaints fans??? It seems that while you flooded Saints blogs and forums in September and Roddy White decided he needed to run his mouth for a week before the game, you cannot reap what you have sowed. Yes we are the WORLD CHAMPIONS, something birdy fans have never, and will likely never know.
