Mayor Reed calls for “Rise Up” rally on Monday
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and the city council has declared Monday as "Atlanta Falcons Day."
FLOWERY BRANCH – Mayor Kasim Reed was at practice on Thursday, drumming up support for a pep rally the City of Atlanta will host at 12 noon Monday in the Atrium of City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, S.W.
The event is being billed as the “Rise Up Game Day Pep Rally.”
The Falcons will take on the Saints at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Georgia Dome.
Atlanta City Councilman Ivory Lee Young will serve as the host of the rally.
The Atlanta City Council has also proclaimed Dec. 27th as “Atlanta Falcons Day.”
They are asking folks to attend the rally and wear black and red in support of the Falcons.
“The Atlanta Falcons football organization is far more than football,” said Councilman Young. “On the 27th of December, let us all “RISE UP” and show the world how committed Atlanta fans are. Join us at city hall to celebrate our heroes, the Atlanta Falcons.
“Their contributions on and off the football field are worthy of recognition. We, the fans of the Atlanta Falcons, now have an obligation not only to thank them, but to firmly support them in asserting our role as the twelfth man on the team,” Young said. “City government, businesses, residents and fans of the Atlanta Falcons send a message loud and clear, that we are united in our passion for our football team and we will enthusiastically support them through every step of their journey this season.”

Larry, us conservatives cant have it both ways….we cant keep railing against professional, lifetime politicians, and then rail against newcomers. As a long time Atlanta, who left for 10 years and now I am back, I find the last two mayors a hell of an improvement over their predecessors….Mayor Reed may be young, but so far I am in favor of most of his actions (NOT the damn dumb trolley, though). Obama….well, not so much.
Nothing changes – no more Bubba’s? Good luck with that…this is still the south, and the suburbs are steadily moving back intown….

I want to see the city’s skyline lit up like it is on the RISE UP commercials. Maybe a regular season game isn’t the time but… on the other hand a game that offers a chance for a NFC South title is pretty big. IF we do host an NFC Championship, I want a robed choir and Samuel Jackson himself in the dome inspiring the team and firing up the crowd. Go Falcons… Rise Up!

There sure are alot of Falcon fans this year. They are show so much love and support for this year’s team. Where was all this during Jim Mora’s last year and the year Bobby Petrino was here. The truth is when the Falcons win, everyone is a diehard fan. When they lose, which is their history, fans run and hide. The majority of Falcon fans are Bandwagon fans. Falcon fans be sure to love and support the team when they are 1 and 10 and just lost to the Loins. If by chance the Falcons win the Super Bowl, it took 45 years to do it. My team won it in 9 years. They have also won it 6 times. Falcon fans are just bandwagon fans.

NEW ORLEANS did not have this problem. Say what you want about us but WE are the party capital of the world. It was nothing for us to throw the BIGGEST SUPERBOWL parade in NFL history, 800,000+ almost a million people attended. Also, some of those who attended were from other parts of the world. I can’t really say that you’ll be seeing this at your little, small, premature rally.

Been in Atlanta all day and see why they need to use public funds to get fan support for falcons, the fans are non existent! Atlanta downtown was Black and Gold all day everywhere, just like last year! I also like how they even have to bribe fans with pre game discounts on concessions just to get them to show up for start of game, what a sad city for NFL team! I will say that I saw 7 people in Falcons gear as opposed to at least 1,000 Sants fans just earlier today, yet the seems to be one hundred Georgia Tech fans for every Falcon fan! What a joke fan base, we will outnumber you in dome tomorrow AGAIN! Enjoy the rise up lowlife rally, lol!

Rally? What is being done about crime in the city? It’s amazing that they can spend time, money resources, etc. to have a rally like this but they can’t rally against crime, put more law enforcement officers on the streets, etc. and the city has completely ignored the findings about Atlanta having some of the most dangerous areas in the U.S. (including an area right near Philips Arena and the Dome, how ironic) Do something about crime in the city.

Where are you all not seeing Falcon fans? Maybe because all the Aint fans are riding the bus/train. We have other means of transportation and other venues other than “downtown” I have seen Falcon red and black all over this city. I am quite sure you will see a lot of Black and Yellow since half of the population is here now. You all need to quit with that Atlanta don’t support their teams. Those of us that are originally from here support our team, I have been there through the Rankins, Leeman Bennett, Jerry Glanville and all the others that have come and gone and in the end, I bleed black and red. We have taken over the city and will take over OUR GA DOME AGAIN in support of our beloved Saints and it won’t even take pre game discounts or other bribes, or publicly funded rally from a broke city to get us to show! Blake, I have lived in Ga. my whole life. I have seen how the “Falcon Fans” are bandwagon fans. If they win everyone is a fan. When they lose, which is their history, fans run and hide. What happen to all the fans from 1998? They finally came out of hiding this year. I can talk smack about 6 Super Bowl wins because it’s the truth. What smack can you talk about? One NFC Champoinship and then lost to Denver in the Super Bowl. That isn’t much smack. A Falcon QB sure did like dogs. I missed the game last night. What was the final score ????????
