FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes was named NFC defensive player of the week for his stellar play in the 34-18 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

“I was just doing my job,” Grimes said. “Playing my responsibilities and if you do that, it will usually work out for you and plays will come your way.”

Grimes, the team’s staring left cornerback, caused two turnovers and batted down five passes. He had an interception and tipped a pass that was intercepted by safety William Moore.

“It was an outstanding game for a corner,” said Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.

In the third quarter, the Falcons forced three turnovers on consecutive drives that led to 17 unanswered points.

Grimes has set a new franchise record with a NFL-leading 22 knockdowns this season. The third-year pro out of Shippensburg is tied for the team lead with five interceptions this season after leading to club with six interceptions in 2009.

Remember back a couple of months ago when some of our nay-sayers were saying Brent “had to go!” And I said, “Where? To the pro-bowl?”

The weekend started today….Im realizing its gonna be a long time to Monday…
I wonder if everyone could possibly be at the dome and in their seat before 8:15 for player introductions? Did you notice the game in Minnesota last Monday? Those fans were in their seats in sub zero weather an hour before game time for a team that is lame. Cmon Falcons fans!

I’ve been saying it since late last year. Brent Grimes is a beast at cornerback. It’s time to tack a good nickname for this premier player.
Grimey- I like it because it describes his style and his road traveled.
Grimetime- For all the reasons above and then the tie in to Deion.
Mighty Mouse- throwback
Little Big Man- just heard this one, fits him well.
Suggestions?

Hey D. Orlando Ledbetter, what is Grimes contract situation? Have they talked to his agent about a extension? This guy has proven he belongs out there and we dont need to lose someone with his talent to another team.

Call me a Grimes-basher if you want but the truth is he gets the opportunity for knockdowns and interceptions because he is constantly targeted every game by the opposing team due to his size, bad footwork, and overall poor technique. Thankfully, Brent has a short-memory and is a competitor. Look for more attempts to exploit him in the games to come because the entire NFL knows he can be beat like a drum.

Do not give this guy a contract extension. Do draft another corner with size. Worst case is they don’t beat him out but keep the heat on Grimes to play well.

The best thing that can happen for the Falcons on defense is a consistent pass rush because every head coach in the NFL knows that our defense is a sore point and our pass coverage in particular.

LET’S GO FALCONS!

Ive been pretty hard on Grimes, like most people, but he is playing well above average. I hope this is a sign of things to come because teams are definitely going to continue to pick on him. With Dreds on the other side, Brees and Co. will come to him on Monday. Lets just home “grimetime” lives up to his nickname on MNF and well into Jan. Or maybe even….Feburary. Shh….everyone be quiet. There will be enough interviews to go around in Dallas.

B Grimes is getting better each week. He may not be a shut down corner like Namdi Asomugha (yet) but he is making some very good plays on the ball and has come up the rough side of the mountain. If they keep trying him, he’s going to keep making big plays. Keep ballin’ and improving, Grimey! It’s your time!

@ all i’m sayin is, STFU, you have no clue on WTF you are talking…if this guy was 2″ taller, he would be the best corner in the league hands down, name me a corner that does not get caught on…BG only gets caught on and not burnt, there is a difference, i’ll take his performance over a whole lot of corners that are starting in the league now…be real and give the guy his props, he’s earned every inch of it…

Grimes is getting targeted. And he is making them pay. He is near the top of the team in tackles, because if his man catches the ball, he takes him down, and he is a little terror in run support. He’s not going to knock anybody out, but they aren’t going to run by him either. They call you a shutdown corner once offenses stop throwing at you. Until then they call you the league leader in interceptions, and passes defensed; bka Grime-Time, aka, Grimey, Mighty Mouse, and the Little Big Man.

Not feeling Grime Reaper. Has no rhythm.

D-Led, this young man deserves more press. You are about the only one who can (or will) give it to him.

I have to admit that I was a Grime’s hater early in the year. I was dead wrong about the man. Speaking of dead wrong, those of you bashing Robinson every week, read the article in last Sunday’s AJC and learn a little about football in the NFL. You look like total morons with your constant bashing. Grow up! I think Smith and TD know a little more about football then you slapnuts bashing Robinson. Enough said.

This is what you want in your defensive backfield: A guy that qbs stay away from (Robinson); and a guy that makes you pay when you come the other way (Grimes).
