Great video, D-Led. I wholeheartedly agree that they’re still taking a business approach and realize they have a left to accomplish.

Several years ago my sister and her family moved to Atlanta. Since the rest of us all lived in the West it was quite a move. As luck would have it shortly there after I took a job with one of Georgia’s most beloved companies, Delta Airlines. This allowed my father the opportunity to travel from California for visits.
Being an avid sports fan my Dad quickly became obsessed with the Atlanta Falcons. My sister and brotherinlaw were pioneers in a way, buying a newly renovated loft in the Castleburry Hill district. Their place being a stones throw from the Georgia Dome fueled my fathers die hard passion for the team.
In February of this year my father was diagnosed with liver cancer and we feared that he would go very fast. To everyone’s amazement he fought very hard and no matter how bad he felt he made sure he caught every Falcons game. Even in his weakened condition he could be seen walking the streets of our small Central California town with his cane, Facons Tshirt and Falcons hat. It was so out of place people could not help but stare. Many raised fists in the air and congradulted him on his teams success. Gestures that he relished and took so much pride in.
His illness had taken its toll and a few days ago he slipped into a very deep sleep. It was hour to hour and we thought it would only be soon. As it turns out he had one last pressing piece of business on his mind before he called it a day. While holding vigil my brotherinlaw took a few moments to check the NFL news on the internet. After learning that the Falcons had clinched the playoffs he gathered my sisters and told them that he should be told the news. It has been reported that the sense of hearing is the last to go. After hearing the news he took a few more breaths and slipped quitely into the night.
On behalf of the entire Ryan family of San Luis Obispo, CA. I would just like to congratulate Arthur Blank and the entire Falcons team for making my Fathers last year on earth one of the the most exciting and most pleasurable of his entire life.
Sincerely,
Dan Ryan Jr.

Dan Ryan Jr.,

Thank you for sharing that. I’m sorry for your loss. It is obvious your father was a good man and a fortunate man to have a loving family with him.

Sweet!!!!
No it’s time for the Falcons to finish the regular season with at least one more win. It’s all about how we finish the forth quarter of the season!!!

Great Game yesterday! Three road games won on outdoor turfs by a dome team… it doesn’t get any better than that. Now they need one win in the dome against the defending Super Bowl Champs to clinch it all. This year’s Falcons remind me so much of the Miami Dolphins in their hay-day (I was raised in S. Florida when they were perfect – went to 3 straight SBs and won 2 finishing with the perfect season). Go Falcons! This is YOUR YEAR!

@ Dan Ryan Jr. — words cannot describe how much I personally appreciate your message. My dad felt the same about his Dolphins. I wish you and your family peace this holiday season, and pray you take joy in knowing your father is in a better place… hopefully looking down on a championship season.

I guess Seenthis hasn’t been around for a while ??? I’m still waiting for his predictions to come true….here, let me remind him… “saints will take they’re righful place atop the NFC south”…well…that didn’t happen. ” The Falcons number 1 position at NFC south is just a tourist’s postion”… well well, that didn’t happen either. As far as the monday game goes, yeah, there’s alot on the line for the Falcons but all that is on the line is gravy !!!! Saint’s pipe dream of “world domination”….never happened……so much for dynasties LOL !

Sure the Falcons have soared into the playoffs. That is something that is undeniable but my only concern right now is HOW ARE WE GOING TO FARE AGAINST THE GOOD TEAMS: SAINTS, EAGLES, PATRIOTS, RAVENS, BEARS AND GIANTS. I know the Falcons play GREAT against the horrible clubs but it seems to me that when they face a good team, they tend to struggle a lot. Hopefully this problem can be corrected in time for the playoffs so that if the Falcons make it to the superbowl they dont just waste their time.

Well Kojak, I think that the Falcons have defeated two of the teams you have listed, and they can beat the other four.
You could always cheer for one of the other teams, if you are that concerned about the Falcons.

Seriously

Kojak66 – we’re 2-1 against those teams.

If we make the superbowl, it won’t be a waste of time – whatever happens.

Find another bandwagon to jump on.

Nice story Dan Ryan Jr. My prayers are with you and your family. Not many Falcons fans on the west coast. I live in Cardiff, CA north of San Diego, and visit sports bars every weekend to watch our team.

D-led, you should get Dan Ryan’s post to Mike Smith so he can read it to the players during a team meeting this week.

Great story Dan Ryan Jr. The Atlanta Falcon have a great coach, he is the type of coach that has so much confidents in his team that he go for on 4th down. Now, can Atlanta beat Eagles, Saints, Giants, and New England. Yes, because we hold the football. The Falcons get defenses tired and then we run the football. Matt Ryan is a quarterback that will beat you in the 4th quarter. When you look around the league its very few quarterbacks that can win in the 4th quarter. Falcons fans don’t worry, we have a coach that has guts, and we have a quarterback in Matt Ryan ‘Matty Ice’ that will win in the 4th quarter. Yes, don’t forget the 12 man that is going to defend the dome when the WHO DAT SAINT COME TO TOWN AND GET A BEAT DOWN. GO FALCONS!!!!

When are the Falcons going to extend Mike Smith’s contract. I believe he has only one year left and has proven to be one of the better NFL head coaches in the game. Time to step up Atlanta and get him locked up.

@Dan Ryan Jr — Thanks Danny for posting.

All, I’m the son-in-law that moved to Atlanta. I want to thank you all for the warm words.

To add to the story (slightly), Dan Sr. and I listened to the first half of the Seattle game over the internet (until someone came by and I was forced to turn it off). Even in a coma, he was garbed in a Falcon’s shirt (one of many). And after he passed, I helped change him into his final clothes…and his daughters opted to change him into his nicest Falcon’s shirt. I know he’s happy about that.

Clay – Next year is his last year. This is the time to re-sign him. Baltimore has committed to giving Harbaugh a new deal after this season and Mike Smith has a better record including beating the Ravens head to head. Arthur Blank has never re-up’d a coach since taking over and it’s time they take care of Smith. Atlanta needs the stability that he brings. Get him and his staff signed to a long term deal now…he certainly has earned it.
