The Falcons are a hit on television.

The game against Tampa Bay last Sunday was the highest-rated regular season NFL game on FOX in Atlanta with a 31.3 percent rating.

“What is means is that 31.3 percent of all of the homes in the Atlanta area were watching the game on Sunday,” said Michael Mulvihill, Fox Sports’ vice president of research and programming.

There was a lot of interest in the Falcons game in New Orleans, which had a 34.7 rating.

“New Orleans, for the last two years has been doing the highest NFL ratings in the country,” Mulvihill said. “In this case, they had a Saints game leading into the Falcons-Bucs game. We were able to keep them at the sets for the late game.”

The high numbers are likely a signal the the Falcons will be getting more national exposure down the stretch and more national games next season.

“I would not only say that they are back, but they are more than back,” Mulvihill said. “The numbers that the Falcons are doing in Atlanta this year are even better than the numbers they were getting in the 1998 season when they went to the Super Bowl.”

The Falcons ratings were much lower at the beginning of the season.

“The first couple of games of the year were doing around a 20 rating,” Mulvihill said. “Now that they have established themselves as an elite team . . . the Packer game two weeks ago did a 28 rating and then this 31.3. I think in all likelihood the Saints game in a couple of weeks will surpass that.”

The Falcons still aren’t flying under the radar nationwide, despite their record!

When will you children grow up and stop this “First” crap? It is getting so very old! As for the Falcons TV ratings, I want someone to explain to me why FOX aired the Cowboys vs Colts game on as the second game over most of the nation? I mean 2 teams that are not even in the thick of it getting national exposure and the Falcons vs Bucs being a critical game against the no#1 team in the NFC and the no#3 team in the NFC South getting only regional exposure. Tell me that there isn’t regional prejudice at the Network level.

We still haven’t won ANYTHING yet!!! Let’s keep our heads on straight, stay humble and enjoy the ride. We are 10-2 and while that is awesome, if we hit a two oe three game skid (which I don’t believe will happen), then we could finish 11-5 and out of the playoffs, just like New England last year.
So, yeah let’s keep it going but as Coach Smitty tells his players…”ONE GAME AT A TIME.”

By the way, if we do win out but lose to the Saints on that Monday night game, then we can still win the division if Tampa Bay beats the Saints in New Orleans. Just food for thought.

Yeah and that said, being in the dome for the Thursday night primetime game against the Ravens with my Falcon Brethren was the best!!!

If the rest of the nation was watching the AWFUL COLTS AND COWBOYS then they just have unbelievably poor taste.

The good thing is that they don’t care about anything they can’t control.

The rest of the world is going to be shocked because no one else….other than the obviously preoccupied is going to know how good this team is.

Rebelson is right. We can lose to the Saints, but win the rest of the games and still win the devisions even if the Saints win out. We would win in the common opponents tie breaking category.

Yet another shout out to Special Weems and Grimes for their outstanding play. I was reading another blog where folks were speculating that Coach Smith was actually a little relieved when those two stepped up big time since some of the other strategies were being pounded by the big Bucs players.

FOX aired the Cowboys because the national media loves them. Watch any sports center and they’d rather talk about the Cowboys 3rd string QB’s turf toe than a team like the Falcons or the Jaguars. They either talk about the Cowboys, Steelers, Colts, or Patriots. Even when they loose. Look at ESPN’s SC right after the Falcons game- they showed Garrett’s locker room speech BEFORE the Falcons. And that’s one of the few times they show them.

All of it is fine with me. Allows us to show Berman what he doesn’t know about football.

We beat both the Cardinals and Browns. Saints lost to both of them. We lost to the Steelers while the Saints beat them. But don’t forget, Saints still have to travel to Baltimore the week before they come to Atlanta.

So the ratings were high in Atlanta? Isn’t the barometer of high ratings is what was the national number since it was the Fox NATIONAL game??

Oh…..the title for highest rated Fox National Game to date still belongs to the Eagles-Bears game huh?

Eagles-Bears was the highest rated NFL game of the season so far
The Eagles have been getting crazy ratings all season. The Eagles-Giants game also got huge numbers, as did Eagles-Packers, and even the Eagles-49ers game. It’s great for Eagles fans that no longer reside in the Philly area, because the better the Eagles do from a ratings perspective, the more they’ll be on national TV.

Being a BUCS fan, I’ll give the Falcons their dues. Given the way these two games have gone, I don’t think the Falcons are that much better than the BUCS. Given that we had four of our starters out and being the youngest team in the league. I’ll just say, watch out for years to come NFC South.

vqtb… stop making excuses.. the bucs have NOT WON a single game vs a winning team. All nfl games are close but i get tired of listening to these bandwagon buc fans thinking that their team is getting the wrong end of the stick. If ts were better they would not have blown a 10 pt 4th quarter lead… its as simple as that ..good teams finish and bad teams are coached by a moron who calls out teams he cant beat

vqtb

The Falcons are a better team right now than the BUCS but give me a break, the BUCS could have easily beaten the Falcons twice. Every year it comes down to a few games and a few plays and injury. The Falcons are one of 4 teams to have no injury to their OL. The BUCS have had maybe three games with the same starters on the OL. Talib went out with an injury early in the game. I don’t think White would have caught that 20 yard out if Talib was in there given that he pretty much shut White down in the earlier game in Atlanta. Come on man, the Falcons could have easily lost to the 49er’s game as well, instead of a lucky strip at the end. You can only play what is on your schedule. Based on your logic, the Jets has beaten one team with a winning record and was widely considered one the best team in the AFC before the Patriots took them out.

“Be Ready to do it again” said Matt Ryan to his team at the bench after the game winning TD
while Josh Freeman said that he was thinking about not to leave too much time on the clock for Matt Ryan after scoring (which did NOT happen)
Just wanted to note the difference in thought process of freeman (up & coming) and Ryan(already mature beyond his years)

Why is the Falcons defense only rushing 3 men in critical obvious passing situations (did it against Green Bay and Tampa Bay)?
